Not only are we in the midst of a "golden generation" with our NT, we have a plethora of up-and-coming players ready to take that next step. No one knows for sure if they will actualize their potential, but the talent is there. The great thing is we're in no rush to bring up these kids as our "stars" are all relatively young (Corluka, Modric, Kranjcar, Rakitic, etc.). While some countries are crying out for a "Number 10" we have a number in waiting. Again, who knows if they will be NT material, but it looks promising.

It's a great time to be a Croatian NT supporter and it's one of the reasons I wish the coverage of our youth teams (at least the U-21's) was greater.

yes we have talent but in the wrong place. too many talent in midfield but in the back there's no one
In the "wrong place"? You can never have enough talented midfielders IMO.

You say that we have "no one" in defense, but that's not entirely true. Defenders aren't "sexy" and not in the media, but there are some quality players in the ranks.

Currently we have Corluka, Srna (who should be there), Knezevic, Krizanac, Simunic, Pranjic, etc. who aren't that old and will be able to play at least a few more years.

We don't need a complete overhaul, just one or two players to step up when needed. And while there may not be someone on the radar TODAY, you know there will be when needed. Corluka came out of nowhere to become a regular for our NT. I know he was at the U-21 level, but who expected him to step in and claim that position like he did (from day one)?

Lovren and Barbaric are two players with potential out of Dinamo. There's Prahic at Varteks. Who knows who will develop. But I have faith that when the time is right we will have more than ample replacements. Like we always do.

Well, I've seen Sharbini and Tomasov play this year against Hajduk and Dinamo respectively and I thought both looked really good out on that pitch. I'd even go so far as to say that they were the best offensive players(Tomasov tries on defense while Sharbini is quite poor on the defensive end) on the field for those matches.(haven't seen Jajalo or Ilicevic play this year so.... I can't comment on there performances this year). But i have to say that both Tomasov and Sharbini are both candidates for players of the year in the HNL. Since I am a die hard NK Zadar, I'm really not sure about Tomasov in any other Hrvatski club, Dinamo - I just don't care for; and Hajduk have too many midfield players, I'm not sure he wold get enough playing time.

I really do hope HRT starts to show a few of the U-21 games because i did see the Croatia-Italy U-21 in which we lost 2 - 0. From that encounter I recalled how quick Ilicevic was with the ball at his feet.

sharabini with another nice goal today and was MOM for rijeka..i was a bit surprised bilic didnt consider calling anas as kranjcar's replacement as he is a midfielder and mandzukic is more of a striker then midfielder..

I watched the game last night and Anas Sharbini was invisable until he had that crack from 25 meters out and scored a pearler. After that he also dissapeared also and rijeka let Slaven take the centre of the field and dictate the play. Slaven Belupo was extremely unlucky not to win that game, hittting the post three times and the goalkeeper saving some great attempts. Slaven was the better team.

I am afraid that even with that goal he didnt impress me enough for me to want him in the NT.

I watched the game too, but i recall him being Rijeka's most threatening player going forward Blast. He challenges the oppositions defense and really puts them on there heals when he's involved. Rijeka's entire team seems to spring to life when he takes control of the ball and makes a run . And he did make some strong runs in that game. At the least I would say he outplayed Jajalo, even though his team was slightly outplayed by Belupo.I really think he would be incredible with a few more skilled players around him, because his skill on the ball is actually quite good. Is he national team ready............... hmmm? I think that's he's not far from being on the NT. I'd like to see him prove himself in Serie A, because that league would be a good test of his skill set. I think we do need some kind of back up to Modric, and I wouldn't have a problem if Sharbini was Modric's understudy.

I been away with some eye infection fcuken ;) Am better now though.

But Sharbini, someone else I was speaking with in real life said that Sharbini was quite good in that game. He was quite good but for my liking he was just a little too invisible but when he did get the ball +he was dangerous, its just that I dont recall it happening quite often enough.

I agree with yxou and he is not yet NT material but if he does prove himself in a league like Seria A or La Liga - Or any league for that matter, Slaven Bilić will look at him as a serious option especially now that Kranjčar is out of the picture for us.

I would still rather take Tičinović though ;)

Ilicevic has been called up to the games for the matches against Ukraine and Andorra, I hope he gets a run in the Andorra game at least.

Bilic stated that he chose Ilicevic based on his U21 form and that he is currently on better form than Anas Sharbini, Tomasov and Brkljaca

It aslo shows that the Senior NT management value the U21 performances and will be a good example to others who are avoiding playing for U21s
