Barcelona interested in Alberto Luque
BARCELONA, December 29 (DS) - There are opinions that Barcelona now lack a central striker, whose main aim will be scoring. Patrick Kluivert is not very impressive at this position and, besides, he plays mostly in the midfield. Saviola is unable to cope with strong defence, whereas Rivaldo's task is a bit different. The best way out for the Catalan club may be the signing of a new hitman.
According to Spanish AS, Barcelona have expressed their interest in signing Real Mallorca forward Alberto Luque, who is also wanted by Real Madrid.
Luque has scored 6 goals this season and, moreover, he is Catalan and has grown in junior teams of Barcelona.
He started for Mallorca reserve team as a professional, before winning the first team place in 1998. After a brief loan spell with Malaga he returned to Son Moix, scoring 9 goals in his 32 appearances for Mallorca last season.

CHIEVO coach Luigi Del Neri has emerged as a candidate to take over at Barcelona, should Carles Rexach prove unable to bring silverware to Camp Nou.
Del Neri is seen as a miracle worker in his native Italy, guiding Chiveo from relative obscurity to the top of Serie A, and his talents have caught the eyes of the Barca officials.

Barcelona have continually underperformed in recent season, and are firmly in the shadow of bitter rivals Real Madrid, something which is not acceptable in Catalunya.

Camp Nou president Joan Gaspart has reportedly earmarked Del Neri as his favoured choice should Rexach fail to deliver.

Del Neri recently told planetfootball.com that he would love the challenge of coaching on a bigger stage.

His attacking brand of football has taken Serie A by storm and he revealed he would relish the opportunity to try his methods on a bigger stage.

These comments appear to have filtered to Barcelona, with Gaspart looking at different options as he tries to wrestle the balance of power away from the Spanish capital.

Gaspart, though, has other candidates on his wish list, with Boca Juniors coach Carlos Bianchi an attractive option for the Barca hierarchy.

No, i'm 100% dutch. The lyrics in my sig are from a Manu Chao song called Denia. It's a cool song but it just stays in your head for days and days and it's really frustrating :D. But if it's confusing you guys i'll change my sig ok? ;)

Marca reports that Barça will do four signings next season:
-A goalkeeper - They want someone cheap, young and experienced. No names yet.
-A left CD - Milito and Kompany are the main options. Del Horno would be an option for the LB.
-A right wing - Ezquerro is the main objective. Other names: Esposito and Guayre.
-Van Bommel

They also say that Rijkaard doesn't count on this players:
-Jorquera :wth: - it seems that Rijkaard wants a younger goalie with more experience to pressure Valdés. Victor would be the first option though.
-Gerard - He finishes his contract and his wages (4,9 M per year) are too big
-Navarro - He doesn't play and the player has told the club that he doesn't want to stay in this conditions.
-Albertini - He just came to cover the DM with the injuries of Motta and Edmilson
-Riquelme - Too big wages and non-EU. Barça thinks to use him in any operation.
-Saviola - Rijkaard doesn't like him and his wages are too big. Also to be used in any operation.
-Rochemback - The fans don't want to see him anymore and he doesn't fit in the style of the team.

i think the right winger has come up as a new possibility...........

saviola+riquelme=20 million

plus we have ppl like oscar lopez,sergio garcia etc who cud always be used as a bait in the operations.....................and if we r getting van bommel free.................we have to buy only a centre half and a right winger....................even if we pool in 10 million............we have enuf money to buy qulaity players...........................gonazlo might cost 10 million on an absolute scale.........................now shud we splash big money on sumone like joaquin or SWP or if there r alternatives for RW pls tell me...............

I really don't understand why we need a right winger??? The explanation I read is that we need a back-up for Giuly. But we don't have a left winger! If Rijkaards keeps putting Ronnie on the left, we'll get a Rivaldo scenario and we can say goodbye to Ronnie!

Don't worry about Ronaldinho's position. Rijkaard technically puts him on the left, but he has freedom of movement during the match, Rivaldo's case was different. LvG used to freak out if he moved only 10 yards out of position!!! :wallbang:

Jorquera's been good but I was pretty sure he was going to ask for this transfer as hes almost in his mid twenties and yet he hardly has had 10 games in his entire Barca career. Been with us through all the ranks of the La Masia uptill the first team so I got good respect for the man. Hopefully we can get something decent for him.

BTW why not promote Valdes junior to the subs bench ? And get someone like that Belgian GK we got in the B team as the third keeper or maybe someone else from the inferior categories if Rijkaard has an eye on him.

It's kinda disappointing looking at the names on the graphic. IMO van Bommel is good. As for the defenders on that graphic, I'd only want Toure and that's it. And he's probably the least likely option. And Cesc Arnau, right? So now we're in the business of bringing back old keepers. What's wrong with Jorquera? If we're looking for a keeper and are willing to sell JRR to Villarreal, then make Reina part of the deal.

As for the right wing, I'm fine with Giuly on the bench if we bring someone better in. He didn't cost much and is only on a 3 year deal (down to 2 years this summer). I think anyone we bring in will be his sub though.

Ronaldinho is fine with playing out on the left. He said as much recently in an interview a month or so back.

Btw, Placente, Kuffour and Dellas are all top class centre backs. All internationals too.

I've not seen Rodriguez enough for me to personally agree or not. I'd prefer the cash + Reina. IMO Reina wouldn't come though if he wasn't going to be the No 1.

I thought Placente to be more of a left back. If that's the case, then spend on Del Horno and put him there. IMO Toure is better than Placente, Kuffour and Dellas combined. I think we'd have to pay though and I think Wenger would say "He ain't for sale!"
