I have taken alot of interest in youth players in recent time, since it seems that players are starting to play at younger age. We all know that Ajax academy is one of the best in the wrold and alot of players have come from their youth ranks.

But there are alot of great players that I have no idea where they come from like many Brazilians like Ronaldinho and Ronaldo etc.

name here some of the players that have come up of your clubs youth system in recent times or in the past.

for Liverpool for example in recent time the most well known are Michel Owen, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.

Players take came trough the whole rank of youth teams in the current Juveteam is none actually. If you count the players that at some part has played in youth teams, or Primavera, it's just Del Piero I believe. Tacchinardi were also one of these players before he moved to Villareal.

Juventus youth and primavera teams is apperently one of the best in Italy, with several major trophies in the last couple of year in the cabinet. Still, practically none of the youth players get the chance to wear the Juveshirt even if they've impressed in the primavera.

Two youngsters that used to play in the Juve pirmavera that's touted for something big is Palladino and Masiello. Palladino being a fowards who's loaned out to Livorno and impressing, and Masiello a defender playing in Serie B out on loan also. Would be sweet if any of these "Juve-products" come back to the team and get a fair chance, but it's not that likely.

City's youth academy may not have major stars like Ajax's, but it is having a huge influence on the first team with 17 out of the 33 first teamers being youth products, and many being in the First XI or on the bench.

Barton, Ireland and Croft all start in midfield, with Jordan and Onuoha regulars at the back, with BWP our 3rd choice striker. After that we've seen players like Flood, Richards, D'Laryea and Schmeichel all around the first team squad recently. A few players have gone out on loan to other clubs and are starting regularly there. At present our youth Academy is probably the most productive in England.

We've also produced SWP, who is now at Chelsea, and Michael Brown who is at Spurs. Stephen Elliott was also a City product but left at age 21, and Glenn Whelan, Sheffield Wednesday captain despite only being 20 is also one of ours.

Going further back, we produced Neil Lennon.

We've got a preety good youth academy, Chris Riggott was one of the first to come through, now there's a whole batch of promising youngsters, Huddlestone, who has gone to spurs, Lee Holmes, Lewin Nyatanga, Giles Barnes have been the ones who have been able to get games at 1st team level so far.

Well, in Spain, 5 or 6 six years ago, "AndalucĂa School" (A south region, with Sevilla city teams or Malaga) i think is the very best now. if you take a look at the rosters of every team in the Primera DivisiĂłn is very difficult not to see a player from this teams on it. Reyes, Jose Mari, JesĂşs Navas, JoaquĂn, Diego Capel...there are a lot a lot of good players.

I think this teams were forced to look in their youth teams when they were in economic difficults a years ago, and they found a lot of quality. Then, they put money on their youth players care. Now you can see many home-grown players in their firsts teams.

I think Malaga is also important, its second team, is playing the Segunda DivisiĂłn, its very difficult for a young side apart big squads like Real, Barcelona or Atletico. Manu, Nacho RodrĂguez, Koke (marseille), Fernando (Betis) are all players from Malaga.

Damien Duff, James Beattie and David Dunn are the 3 best known. There's a few others kicking about the place like Damien Johnson, Martin Taylor etc. as well as Paul Gallagher still at Rovers.

Lezama (Ath.Bilbao) and Mareo (Sporting Gijon) are very important in Spain.
Lezama is still an important place, but Mareo lost its way in the 90s. They used to have great players (Ablanedo, Luis Enrique, Juanele, Joaquin, Abelardo, Quini,...), but in the last 10 years only David Villa is something different. It's a pity, but the club got crazy with the Bosman Law and they started to buy foreigners, mainly Russians, and the club went to Segunda and they're still there. A pity, they ruined their main asset.

They have a good school, but I don't think it's the best. I think I am not biased if I say that the Catalan school is the most important nowadays. Barça have a lot of home grown players, some of them in a really high level and they're almost the 50% of the team. Just some days ago, Barça played with 8 players from the youth system. And everyone knows about Luis Garcia, Reina, Cesc or Luque. Also the Espanyol school is very good.

Even one of the biggest world talents, Leo Messi, is raised in La Masia. He is Argentinian, but he's in Catalunya since he's 11 and joined Barça being 13. So the main part of his formation is done in Catalunya. Actually, he played for the first time with Argentina last year, they didn't even know about him until his debut with the first team.

Also Valencia have a good school, not as powerful though. Of course, the Basques keep having good players too like Del Horno, Alonso, Llorente or Yeste.

Real Madrid used to have a great, if not the best school. Soldado mentioned some of the names of the people who are now in Primera. But in recent years, they didn't produce any big player for their club and also there are not players like Cañizares or Urzaiz since some time ago. Pavon is the only one who had some success in the last 5 years and he's not anything out of the world.

I agree with you, there are lot of talent in Catalonian Based football, not only in Barcelona, but in Espanyol too, you cannot forget that nowadays, Espanyol supplies Spains-under NTs with more players than Barcelona or any other squad.

By the way, don't forget players like Piqué, Fabregas or Iniesta (not catalonian but also grown at La Masía)

It's true, Real have not produce much talented players in the last years, perhaps only "middle-class" players like Luis GarcĂa (Espanyol) Rikki (Getafe), Portillo (Brugges) or Valdo (Osasuna). But these are too young and quality players, and in a future they could raise up like Rivera (Betis) and earn a cap with the NT.

This year, in Segunda DivisiĂłn, there are some players with a very promising future in Primera DivisiĂłn like Soldado, De la Red, Jurado or Balboa.

My side doesnt have a Youth Academy ( :( ), yet ( :) )

However - we do have the Victorian Insititue of Sport (VIS) supporting the club and a national level the famous Australian Insititue of Sport (AIS) which has produced many of the worlds greatest sportsmen.

I'm hopeful that the new policy of UEFA of forcing teams to have a certain percentage of players coming from their youth academy will change the face of today's football...

bye bye chelsky, bye bye arsenal...
