He has been what he exactly is right now for a few seasons. Just a little bit short on consitency but otherwise one of the standout midfielders for about 4 seasons now.

You dont need a league title under your belt to get the plaudits imo. Though he already had that, and a CL title to boot before joining City.

Toure been been world class for years. Who can forget his goal in the Copa Del Rey final 2009 in Barcelona Treble winning season. Incredible player.

Manchester City's Yaya Toure gives Lescott his Man of the Match champagne after win at Newcastle

Following his two goals against Newcastle, Yaya Toure has edged Manchester City ever closer to their first ever Premier League title, which will undoubtedly send the blue side of Manchester into party mode.
Not for Yaya however, as upon receiving his Man of the Match award of a bottle of champagne, the Ivory Coast midfielder gave it away to defender Joleon Lescott.
As seen in the video above, Toure says “I don’t drink because I am a muslim, you take the champagne,” as the religion stipulates no drinking of alcohol.
Toure will no doubt be thrilled about his contribution to Man City’s fantastic campaign thus far.
City host relegation fighting Queen’s Park Rangers next week knowing a win will almost guarantee the Premier League title heading to the Etihad Stadium this season

He can do ANYTHING. He can defend. Last season against Arsenal he filled in at centre-back. He can be a screening midfielder, as he has been much of the season. But when we need him most in attack he delivers.

I saw a quote in the guardian saying "He is built like a centre half, has the technique of a midfielder and the finishing ability of a stiker". In 2 years he's got 21 goals from midfield. It's funny that he's described as a defencive midfielder by many, he's the ultimate box to box player.

Wasn't the same mistake made sometimes with Patrick Vieira? Described at times as a defensive midfielder, but it was so characteristic of him to make surges up and down the pitch. I mean, when he partnered Gilberto, Gilberto sat back, he was the DM. I think some people wondered if there was a syndrome after Makelele appeared.

Vieira was before Makelele though. Even then he had Petit. He did become slightly more defencive after getting a few injuries. He played at City as a DM, but still managed to weigh in with 5 goals the season he retired despite only a handful of appearances.

Barca restrained him, now with Man City he's proven to be the best all around midfielder in the world. His passing is amazingly accurate and his conditioning is second to none.
I agree with this to an extent. I really wish Pep had employed him as a CM a bit more. One of his last matches was as a CM and I think he had a nice goal or assist. I don't recall exactly. Anyway, he's thought of as a DM because that's where he primarily played at Barça. However, before he came to the club he was used more as a CM.

Yaya seems a bit restrained on his own though. He never really seemed to get mad enough or worked up enough for me. For the most part that's a good thing, but there were times that I just wanted to see him get angry. I mean he would get angry some small shit. I just wish I could have seen him take on Pepe. He would tear Pepe's arms off.

Never wanted to see him leave Barça. Anyway, he was my only ever blog entry:

I think of this:

Sad cow, enjoy your Jordan Henderson and 8th place finish, I'm sure Yaya will sleep with his winner's medal this season in spite of being tackled once by some mid table defender.

One of my favourite players.

You can't not like him. Extremely athletic, works hard, powerful, the lot. Fantastic player.

The most complete midfielder out there today, truly phenomenal player.

I was so annoyed when we sold him but could understand from a business perspective as well as the rise and constant improvement of Busquets. I still remember Yaya as a colossal CB for Barca in the CL semi against Chelsea and in the final against United. Despite the fact that you see this guy almost limping around and moving in a very labored condition at a glance, when he gets moving he is as quick as they come. Excellent strength, balance, skill and accuracy. For City he is so much more effective when going forward, although he may start in a withdrawn CM role next to Barry for City - If Mancini needs another dimension in attack he often subs a forward for De Jong to allow Yaya to move forward and attack. He's also a player for the big games.

I genuinely believe he'd succeed in any team, hell of a player.
