It may seem retarded to include hard working wide men like Mesto in the same poll as a true fantasista like Totti, but anyway the way this Italy NT works, they try to use such players in the same way, so I am not the retarded one. Plus it means less polls and I couldnt be bothered to make a wide midfield poll where the possibility is just 1 wide midfielder could go to the World Cup.

I personally didnt include Totti in my list of players to go. No doubt if fit and on form the best attacking player Italy still has, but he is very injury prone now, and I would rather him spend his last days as a footballer healthy and playing for Roma. A nice holiday, and coming back next year playing in CL for Roma is what I prefer than an exhausting summer where he could get injured once again. Miccoli and Di Natale are good options for different reasons, yeah sure Lippi is a retard so would prefer to call a hard working Serie C attacker than Miccoli for personal reasons. For the wide midfielder I called Cossu. The main reserve would be Cassano.

Italy has 3 absolutely awesomely skilled fantasisti, all of which can change a game in the blink of an eye as we have seen for the past 2 seasons. However the likelihood is none of them will go. I am talking of Miccoli, Cassano and Totti of course. Thats quite sad really.

On another point, Balotelli will be in the strikers list.

Marcello Lippi the poster really is Marcello Lippi the person, has selected Di Natale, Rossi, Camoranesi and Pepe :howler:

Let me just say that Pepe is by no means an alternative to Totti or Cassano, he has different charachteristics, but I think that we will suffer less against fast teams if play with wide players. His alternative could be Marchionni. Camoranesi has certain qualities, but is ageing, injury prone and inconsistent, however Cossu is no spring chicken either.

Di Natale doesnt need explaining I think. I picked Rossi based on performances in the NT, look at Podolski for example he propably hasnt played a good game on club level for many years, yet he allways rises up for Germany.

with the 3/5 back formation in mind, so far i think i picked 3 keepers, 5 cb's, 4 fb's, and 5 d/cm's => 17 players. looks like there's only room to pick 3 from this catergory. i'm going with: camoranesi, cossu, and totti. guess, surprisingly, there'd be no room for miccoli - or di natale for that matter - in my selection (i don't like cassano).

I chose and my reasons are as follows;

Cassano - Last International competition for him.
G.Rossi - He represent the bridge between someone who plays for us now and shall be remaining a regular for many years to come!
Giovinco - He is a future international in my eyes...

What people who live on planet EARTH would still call Camoranesi? Injury prone,a nd when fit, sucks. People need to realise this is 2010, not 2006.

Camoranesi is top of the votes too, crazy.

Grinder? Did you watch Napoli v Juve... Zuniga, who has been useless most the out grinded him FFS. Camoranesi was lucky to stay on the pitch, made the mistake for the first goal by losing the ball. He can not run anymore, he can't take players on, he isnt creating f-all. Lets just call him because in 2006 he added some balance to the team.

irrespective of what formation you have in mind for the WC, you can't go into the tournament without a real winger. which other winger would you choose? pepe or alike?

and fyi, disregarding he risking a second yellow, camo was actually pretty decent against napoli, and he just came back from being injured and not 100% there yet. he lost the ball in one of napoli's goals, yes. but midfielders do lose balls, even in barcelona. zebina and grosso were the primary culprits for horrible defending for that goal.

lets not be inventive trying to support one's arguments.

no, it was absolutely camo's fault. he tried to nutmeg a player in his own half, and to e fair to deano, i think he is referring to a replacement such as Cossu or Candreva, but as shown, I don't think Candreva is at Camo's level. Third in line would be Marchisio who is also unliked by Deano, so who knows??

We bought just 1 wide player to 2006. So far 3 GK, 8 defenders, 6 midfielders, now 3 from this list, leaving 3 more players from the striker section. I can count Di Natale as a wide player also so you can say 2.

From this list I took Cossu, Di Natale and Miccoli.

Bring Back Up

Current Wide MF:Fantasisti to World Cup

Di Natale 11

In additional Poll

Camoranesi 10
Cassano 10
Miccoli 9
Totti 9

BTW Rossi getting back to some form at Villarreal from what I heard, not that I can say for sure. Still I would prefer Miccoli ahead of Rossi if Lippi could ever pick him, but at least this is good news for after World Cup 2010... would be nice if Rossi could be signed by a big Italian team and perform here.

Well Rossi is meant to be a fantasista, while Quagliarella is indeed more of a number 9 though I can see why you compare them as Lippi has never played Quagliarella as a numnber 9, only as an outside forward where he sucks.

Quags is a 9 at Napoli, just one that moves around to the sides alot, a bit like Iaquinta, but you won't see me comparing Iaquinta to Rossi. Sure Quags is a different type of 9. smaller but instinctive, nevertheless Rossi is a fantasista and Quags is a striker. Ask Toni who knows him best. As a forward he is a good Serie A player, as anything else he sucks.
