We travel to Messina for our second match in a row against a promoted side. This squad, however, features far less firepower than Fiorentina, even if we are playing them away.
They opened the season w/ a 0-0 result vs. Parma, though match reviews said Messina was a far weaker club than Parma. There is some confusion over which stadium they will host us at, either their new one or a small tiny little field. Gazzetta has them playing this way:
MESSINA-ROMA 4-4-2
1 Storari
8 Zoro
25 Fusco
2 Rezaei
19 Parisi
17 GiampĂ
24 Coppola
5 Donati
41 Sullo
10 Iliev
18 Amoruso

They will try and pull some Sicilian pride on us, but we have the players and the character to win this match and return home for Lecce three days later. I'm all for Montella starting this match in place of Cassano, who has been suspended. We have many options now available on defense, and I wonder if Cufre should even be replaced by Ferrari (he probably will). Chivu also is rumoured to be nearing match fitness. Mexes is a total go. We'll have to see who plays vs. Kiev. Hopefully, no more injuries. I definitely think Totti will score this weekend vs. Messina.

I think Messina have a very strng side on paper! More than most give them credit for, including me :D...

Still i think we have the team to beat them. I think another 2-0 here. If we keep a clean sheet more than most times this season we always have achance of winning it because of the goals we have in this team. Now I bet it goes 0-0 :stress:

Yes it does. Everything comes to question now.
It will be difficult to even score without Cassano and Totti. On a good side, atleast Montella will start. Is Mido ready? Or will we see Delvecchio?
What about Chivu and D'Agostino?
I just hope we can win this one, and forget about our last performance.

anyone else envies bears their ability to hibernate?

Cassano is banned, and even if he wasn’t he apparently will not play if he doesn’t show the proper remorse to Voeller for his, Cassano’s not Voeller’s, actions in the Fiorentina match, and we can apply the same to Mexes now.

Chivu and Mido even if recovered from their injuries wouldn’t be fit enough to start from the beginning of the match, or would they? Ferrari is still on low form and Panucci is still inconsistent as ever. will D'Agostino be fit? Totti seems to be injured and wasn’t playing that well anyhoo, and it’s really bad when a side outside of italy starts hacking at him cause they already know he’ll lose it and lose his game at the same time.

the only good thing is that Voeller already showed that he’s not predictable and he only fields the players that are good at that moment skill, physical, mental and discipline wise with no regards to names or past.

I've hit rock bottom, a beautiful dream is crushed at the very start of the process of obtaining it by the arrogance of a couple of players and the ignorance of a few fans

And Chivu behind him ;)
Cufré or Candela behind him Chivu and Mexes in the center, if Chivu is fit that is. in fact, if Chivu, Mido and D'Agostion are fit I'd like us to use this:
Code:
               Pelizzoli
           Cufrè-Mexes-Chivu
Mancini-Dacourt-Aquilani-De Rossi-D'Agostino
             Montella-Mido

Chivu, Mido, Totti, Dellas, Sartor, Tommasi, D'Agostino and Cassano are all out according to La Gazzetta.
man! even Sartor :wallbang: I really wanted to see how well he'd do in Panucci's place, it's a 4 man defense then with Panucci-Mexes-Cufrè-Candela.

Although i don't like thinking about the game, did anyone else notice that pretty much every time Kiev attacked, that Panucci came into the centre? That's always a disaster waiting to happen. I like the fact that we had a central defender bursting forward from time to time, but if that means Panucci ends up marking the opposition striker, it's not worth it, i think we'd be better off playing three at the back and leaving Panucci out if that's the style we intend to play.

we can still play three at the back if Voeller decides to put some faith in Scurto, I mention Scurto and not Briotti cause I’ve seen the first play and he impressed me and haven’t seen the later. do you think Corvia or Cerci should start along side Montella, or should we start Delvecchio and go with two out and out strikers?

But 1 good thing is Cufre seems to be playing solidly for u guys ...lets hope this run continues
it was Samuel who recommended Cufrè to Roma, you must have something if someone of the caliber of Samuel thinks you’re good.

Anyone wanna create a probable line-up from what is left :) :) :)

----------------Pelizolli--------------
Panucci----Mexes----Ferrari-----Cufre
Mancini---Dacourt---Perotta---De Rossi
-------Montella-------Del Vecchio----

Something like this perhaps? I don't like that Voller is pushing De Rossi on the wing he doesn't belong there. When D'Ago is ready will Voller bench De Rossi? I think that De Rossi is a better player then Dacourt so he should play at his normal position. Perhaps Voller should push Dacourt on the wing. And I hope that our dear coach finds out that 4-4-2 is not the only formation on this world.

in the Fiorentina match it was Perrotta who played on the left, not De Rossi who was more centeral, and after Cassano got sent off Totti played more on the left and was later replaced by Delvecchio. and even though I haven’t watched the CL match it’s my guess that it was Aquilani who played on the left, not De Rossi. People just assume that he would play on the left when they see the starting eleven cause he’s left footed.

my Roma midfield choice if all our players were healthy would be like this:
Mancini-Aquilani-De Rossi-D’Agostino

Right now, i'd like to see:

--------------Pelizzoli

------Mexes--Ferrari--Cufre

--Mancini--Dacourt--De Rossi--Candela
---------------Aquilani

---------Montella---Delvecchio

I don't know about Scurto, i didn't see any of our pre-season games so i'm not in a position to comment. But i think a Mexes-Ferrari-Cufre backline would be ideal. Mexes and Cufre are both decently paced players, so it works out nicely with Ferrari as the 'no nonsense' player slap in the centre of them. Those long balls we were playing to Montella were pretty ridiculous, DV as the target man, with Montella as the finisher sounds promising. I wouldn't start Candela with the form he's currently in, only i feel that De Rossi isn't a left winger. We're kinda outta options anyway.

Panucci-Mexes-Cufre would be better if you ask me :smileani:

And Panucci-Mexes-Chivu is just perfect :)

Well I think that Rudi has only 4-4-2 in his mind I don't think that the player that he curently has are the players you need for a good 4-4-2 and playing such a formation with Totti and Cassano is just stupid. Totti is more an attacking midfilder then a complete forward.

this is how i think the formation should be

---------------------- pelizzoli ----------------------
pannuci ------ mexes -------- ferrari --------- candela
----- mancini ------ dacourt ------ de rossi ----------
----------------------- aquilani -------------------------
------------ montella ---------- delvecchio -----------

i think voller will let aquilani start because he had faith in him against kiev so this he must get the nod for messina
