I really hope that the club directors don't get too worked about our dramatic victory on Sunday. I realize that it was one of the best games this year, but I don't think in the grand scheme of things it means much.
With the current club.. we will be in the UEFA cup again by January. The club not only needs to win next year, but also build for the future.
Riquelme and Saviola are necessary if we are to have a dominant team beyond the next 2-3 years. Rivaldo will not be young forever, and there are no other 'impact' players on Barc,a. All the other players that have value need a better player with them to take the pressure off.
Gaspart's recent statements lead me to believe that we might not get the two argentines. To me, this would be very wrong because you are borrowing from the future of the club. The acquisition of a 29 year old goal keeper makes this possibility more likely. Gaspart feels the heat, and he think he has to win.. NOW. That.. to me.. is bad news for the future of the club.
Sol Campbell would be a disastrous signing... 200 thousand pounds is waaaay to much.. you might get 2 decent defenders for that much. Tell me would you rather spend 50 million pounds on a 27 year old defender or 60 million on a 23 year old and a 19 year old (saviola/riquelme).. This game is about taking risks.. and apparently our team is 'playing it safe'.
