I can't believe all the posters who keep saying the following: Let's sell Vieri here.......When we sell Vieri........Let's see what we can get for Vieri..........Who will we sign when Vieri is let go....and so on and so on.
Are you guys on crack or drunk? Look. Let me state my case point by point:
1) I think without question that when people think of Inter, outsiders think more Vieri than JZ. It is the truth. Vieri is as part of the Inter symbol as JZ is.
2) Vieri gives his all for the club. He said he wants to stay here, and he tries his hardest on the pitch. Yes, Vieri has done stupid shit before like when he kicked the ball out of the stadium, but never ever have I saw him not try. He is selfish sometimes, but he also tries to cross and pass to his teammates. And he tries his hardest to score, as evidenced by his recent performances.
3) Vieri has been distorted by the media. Just b/c he's not all social and stuff, the Italian media makes it look like he doesn't like it here. But he loves it at Inter and would not demand a trade.
4) Why do people want to continuously work for the future at the expense of other areas? I will get back to this question after I address these other issues.
5) Such as the nature of soccer itself. I thought soccer was a passion-driven sport, where players are the most important thing. Yet recently, we see the sale of Beckham from Man Utd and Davids from Juventus. This is a business, but to an extent, it has to be treated like a passion. If we sell Vieri, it will be just as bad as selling JZ and we will be shameful like Man Utd and Juventus in treating their star players. Milan will never sell Maldini and Juventus will never sell Del Piero. Or willl they? Soccer sadly to say has dropped and joined the ranks of all other sports in which this is fairly common, such as Tino Martinez from the Yankees. I forgot about Seaman from Arsenal, when Seaman wasn't injured and was playing well too. Wow....
6) And so I say that we keep the players that perform and play their heart out. Look at the Juventus's back four. If we had been their managers, we would have sold them b/c of age. But age doesn't matter. Vieri needs to stay.
7) Some people say that we need someoen to suit Adriano. Wow....since when was Adriano the star player and someone who was a franchise tag player? When you have someone like Vieri who every team in every country recognizes as a superstar, who is the star PLAYER UP FRONT (meaning Italy will be relying on Vieri this summer to score 3/4 their goals) in Italy, you play him and adapt to him. This is where the building for future comes in. Yes, you could play Adriano b/c two center forwads can play together, evidence: Crespo and Hasselbaink at Chelsea. Second, no, you don't get players to build around Vieri. You use what you have. Inter is a big club and we got enough to build around him from our players. However, new signings should be around Adriano, b/c in a few years Vieri will retire. And in my opinion, that is when Vieri leaves. When he retires. Not when you guys want to sell him.
