Well, cece, I think both of them are deserve the 2nd and the 3rd place....

Veron was not the only player who gave contribute for winning the scudetto, see the player on #8 ! He's the man !!!

Even, they should change Veron with Nedved, he deserves that position #15 more than any other Lazio player.....
After reading stories about how Nedved keep practicing, even the training was finished...

He did a very great job last season ...

Unfortunately, FIFA didn't see this superb player.

Well this does mean that 50% of the top 10 'best players in the world' are playing in the serie A!!

I think only Sweden's coach voted for Veron as 3rd..
And Roger Lamarre didn't vote for ZZ, as Portugal's Antonio Oliveira didn't vote for Figo... Same for Rivaldo also..

So I think it's a fair result, whoever have won it..

 

I don't think the coaches are allowed to vote for any player from their own country. Check the list.

 

Then the coach of Costa Rica didn't follow the rules.

 

Interesting about the Costa Rica coach! Here are the rules from the FIFA website which say the are not supposed to vote for their own players:

FIFA has been conducting the vote for the FIFA World Player since 1991, an event which in the space of a few years has become the most prestigious awards ceremony in the world of football. What distinguishes this award is the fact that it is the senior national team coaches of the FIFA member associations who are invited to nominate their outstanding players of the calendar year.

Since the inception of this event, the voting procedure has largely remained the same. Each coach names the three best players in his opinion and ranks them first (which earns the player 5 points), second (3 points) and third (1 point). However, the regulations state that coaches may not vote for players from their own team.

The number of coaches taking part has steadily increased over the years. Last year, 140 coaches participated, and this year another significant increase was registered as 150 coaches cast their vote.

The player with the highest number of points is declared FIFA World Player of the Year. He and the players coming second and third each receive a FIFA/adidas trophy.

FIFA's partners in this venture are the sports equipment manufacturer adidas and European Sports Magazines, a group of internationally renowned sports publications consisting of A Bola (Portugal), Don Balon (Spain), Foot Magazine/Voetbal Magazine (Belgium), France Football (France), La Gazzetta dello Sport (Italy), Kicker (Germany), Voetbal International (Netherlands) and World Soccer (England).

Let's get poor Crespo scoring again. I feel so sorry for the kid. He sure seems to have trouble adjusting to new situations. He took forever at Parma to get settled. I never liked him before but now that he's having so much trouble, I have to adjust my opinion. Always support the struggling ones, I guess.

 

Veron surely should have been much higher than a pathetic 15. Veron should have been in the top 10, at least. Figo, Zidane and Rivaldo get too much hype and marketing and publicity while guys like Veron are extremely underrated in these awards by FIFA. Veron does not get the recognition he should! Veron did more for Lazio than Rivaldo or Figo did for Barcelona this past season! Veron did more for Lazio than Zidane did for Juventus this past season! Do these FIFA guys remember that Juventus is out of champions league because Zidane got 2 red cards in chl and Juventus went crashing down in champions league? Zidane's 2 consecutive red cards is not the kind of behavior you expect from a FIFA player of the year!

 

Nesta was the best italian in the list..

I know a lot of Laziofans love Nesta and Nedved very much. Me too. However, when we are talking about the most important player in Lazio, Without any doubt, It is Juan Sebastian Veron.
