Going to start this thread up again now that ESPN+ is carrying La Liga matches in the USA.

Opening weekend starts Friday with Valencia hosting Getafe at 14:00 Grain Belt time (CDT in USA).

Predicted starting lineup, looking at it from the opponent's end so that left back is listed on the right side.

Rivero
Correia, Paulista, Alderete, Gaya
Racic, Soler, Cheryshev
Musah, Maxi Gomez, Guedes

Massive guess at the lineup. I will fine tune it come Friday's match.

Has Musah been passed fit?

Also I don't have much faith in Rivero, everytime I've seen him play he looked a bit unsure. I would prefer to see Mamardashvili between the posts.

Mamardashvili
Correia-Alderete-Gabriel-Gaya
Soler-Racic-Guillamon-Guedes
Maxi-Vallejo

This could work, although no preseason for Soler and Racic worries me.

Some news site suggested that Soler would start because he played at the Olympics and, thus, is still match fit. I think that not having much of a summer break will be more of an issue later in the season. Also, you are correct in that Bordalas prefers the 4-4-2 lineup to the 4-3-3.

That news site predicted this lineup, which is also a 4-4-2.
Domenech;
Correia, Diakhaby, Paulista, Gaya;
Cheryshev, Soler, Burlamaqui, Guedes;
Sobrino, Gomez

I've been really out of the loop this pre-season, not even 100% sure who Mamardashili and Burlamaqui are lol. Youth obviously but.
I haven't followed Valencia for years, ever since I arrived back in a futbol wasteland. But things are getting better. La Liga is now streaming here in the backwaters so I can maybe keep up with the Lim-ashians. Kim is so Lim, see?

Well, any name ending in -vili has to be Georgian and Giorgi Mamardashvili is a 20-year-old Georgian goalkeeper who joined Valencia from Lokomotivi Tbilisi in the off season. No transfer fee was listed.

Alessandro Burlamaqui Apaolaza is a 19-year-old Peruvian midfielder who doesn't even show up in soccerway, which prides itself on keeping up with the Lim-ashians. He joined Valencia from Espanyol where he was captain of the youth squad. In October 2019, he was named among the 60 best young talents in the world by English newspaper The Guardian.

Burlamaqui has an interesting pedigree. Born in Peru to a Brazilian father and Spanish-Basque mother, but moved to Spain at the age of one. After playing for the Peruvian U-17 and U-20 squads, he has pledged to play internationally for Peru. But in reality, he is Spanish and came up through the Spanish system.

2009-2011 Gimnàstic Tarragona
2011-2014 Santes Creus
2014-2015 Reus Deportiu
2015–2021 Espanyol

Well, they pulled out a win 1-0. Down a man for the bulk of the match, Valencia kept Getafe at bay, with the visitors having 75% of the possession, more shots, and more corners.

Mamardashvili had an excellent match, making several key saves. He is a tall keeper and very imposing in the box. Hopefully the next match we can see a full-strength side the entire match.

But for now, top of the table! :rolleyes:

Haha I cant guarantee that. I cant say that Im so motivated talking about Valencia with this current board, even if Bordalas is our Simeone, somehow Atletico actually have a smart board and ours are... yes, fantastically crap (Firdaus cousin infiltrated us)

Tottenham and Valencia are still wrangling over the transfer price for Guedes. Valencia want between 30m and 35m Euros, whereas Tottenham are offering 25m. To be brokered by the "super agent" Jorge Mendes, who is supposedly tight with Lim-ashian.

Too bad. I suspect the money would be used to pay down Lim's debt and not for buying reinforcements.

Week 2: Granada - Valencia

Starting lineup:
Maxi Gomez, Guedes
Cheryshev, Wass, Racic, Soler
Gaya, Alderete, Paulista, Correia
Mamardashvili

First half, 1-0. Valencia had more than 10 attacks to only 3 for Granada, but Granada scored on a fast-break attack that Mamardashvili failed to deal with effectively, IMHO. He had a defender running side by side with the attacker but instead of coming out to cut down the angle, he backed up and the shot was too far to his right to stop.

Guedes has had a couple of excellent chances, but he didn't bring his shooting boots today.

Valencia pulled out a point near the end when Gaya ran into the box and fell over at the slightest of touches, earning a PK that was dispatched by Soler. Granada then scored at 90' from a free kick but ruled offside by VAR.

Valencia had more chances than Granada, but the shots were very poor. Guedes alone had 5 shots, with only 3 on target. Likewise, Maxi had two excellent chances that he spurned. Two goals in the first two matches, but both PKs. You can't go through a season depending upon PKs only as your offense.

Maxi needs to step up, it seems.

Hopefully some signings will improve the attack and Musah to return.
And it looks like they have done so by buying Marcos Andre for Euros 8.5m from Real Valladolid.

I saw him play last weekend in Valladolid's 2-0 win over Real Zaragoza. He is Brazilian and goes by the name: Maranhão.

I saw on transfermarkt that his valuation was only Euros 3.27m, so Valencia are paying double his valuation. Ouch!

Week 3, Valencia will host Alaves for the late Friday match.

Expected lineup:
Maxi Gomez, Guedes
Cheryshev, Racic, Wass, Soler
Gaya, Alderete, Paulista, Correia
Mamardashvili

Unlikely to see the new signing right away, but if Gomez and Guedes continue to shoot blanks, I expect to see Bordalas trying another striker out in the final 20-30 minutes.
