Trying to get this thread in gear! :) the game is about 9 days away and i am sure everyone is as excited as i am! :excited:

Cesar and Helguera are both trying to regain fitness after pre-season small injuries, things are looking positive.

As August 31st is the deadline of signing up our CL squad, we should know for sure WHO or IF anyone will join us by then.

To be very honest, although its always nice to win, its not like I'd like to win this at all cost. I hope Del B doesn't push anyone who may be carrying an injury, or may be short of full fitness, into the starting lineup. This trophy is just the appetiser to the season really, not much more than that.

Has anyone got any news on whether our La Liga game has been moved back a bit because of this game? We were supposed to kick off the season on Sep 1 v Espanyol, and this game is on AUG 30th I believe( its always on Friday, right? it cant be the 31st I think) . We'll have a tough few days if we gotta play two games in such a short span of time.

Affirmative, supercup on the 30th and match against Espanyol 2nd.

del bosque z rest makelele figo and r carlos
so they can be ready for the super cup
we need to get a win to start the season
on a good note.
the liga first game is real close too
maybe we can start the super cup with
the first team and play some reserve
for La Liga first game, Del Bosquez needs
to do a better job on rotaring the team
this year.
at the Dinamo game he switched together
Solari, Portillo and Guti for me
those are our 12, 13 and 14th player
Macca 15th and Savio 16th

Merengue,

I think we need to take this game very seriously for a change. If we lose to Espanyol, we have time to make up in the league, but we always seem to come into this super cup very "uninterested", and i hope this changes this year! :fero:

Roda - Feyenoord 2-2

Feyenoord had to settle with a draw away to Roda JC Kerkrade. According to the reports it was a dreadful performance by Feyenoord in Parkstad Limburg Stadium, and Roda deserved the point.

Patrick Paauwe put Feyenoord up front in the 13th minute before Tom Soater struck one back. Zoetiber (Feyenoords keeper) threw the ball out and hit Soaters hand, and the latter made the most out of the opportunity. Somehow the ref managed to miss out on the incident. Sparta went up front after that, but Pierre Van Hooijdonk (who else) saved the day, on a freekick of course.

Feyenoords team: Zoetebier - Gyan, Van Wonderen, Paauwe, Van Haaren - Emerton, Bosvelt, Ono - Kalou, Van Hooijdonk, Lurling. Robin Van Persie came in for Lurling.

I don't think the problem in 98 and 2000 was a poor motivation. Spanish teams start their campaigns every year several weeks after most teams in Europe, so any competition held in august comes too early for them.
Besides, in 98 we had two added problems: First, Hiddink was there. Then, that team with Suker, Mijatovic, Seedorf, Panucci... was collapsing after winning in Amsterdam.
I only was badly surprised in 2000, but just because we underestimated Galatasaray

IMO it's lack of game practice, plus too big expectations from the guys. They go out wanting to win at all costs, getting their season of to a flying start, and they end up getting caught out by teams who are already in the groove of the season.

Fortunately the dutch league has just 2 weeks behind them, but even that may prove a big advantage.

I dunno, we always look pretty slow on these SuperCup occasions, I hope we do something about it this time:hopefull:

There is some talk that Del B is considering to start Portillo! :dazed:

Very interesting, whether it happens or not, but at least we know Portillo is now being taken seriously, as he should, after his excellent pre-season! :)

And if Morientes keeps on with that look of little lost dog :crybaby: , the chances of Portillo starting next friday boost. This boy is very, veeery hungry!! :fero: :)

What do you guys think of Feyenoord: What do you know about the club, about the supporters? Which players do you know?

Dazzle me, irritate me, flatter me!

Personally, Feyenoord is the club i like in Holland, though honestly i don't follow the dutch league much.

I was impressed by their UEFA cup win. What i like about Feyenoord as they strike me as a "fighting" team.

Van Hoojdink (however its spelled) is a very tough striker to stop. He is a tad slow but dangerous in the air and can shoot well, especially on free-kicks.

It will be a very tough game....but how i wish we finally win this title this time! :fero:

:) I think there's no such a rivalry between spanish and dutch fans. The Netherlands, especially through Ajax (sorry, man! ;) ) have always looked fancy when talking about football.
Personally I know Feyenoord was the club of origin of a great player like Gullit and one of the latest of Johan Cruyff. I like the uniform and enjoyed the UEFA final very much.
What I dislike is that Feyenoord fans have deserved their reputations as some the most unbearable and violent hooligans in Europe!!

according to AS
this is the staring 11 for the Super Cup
and for the most importants games
for that matter

----------------casillas--------------

--salgado---hierro---helguera----r carlos

---------makelele---------cambiasso---------

--figo-------------raul-------------zidane

----------------morientes---------------

on the bench
Portillo waiting
(after first three sure misses Mori will have).
to come in and net the winner for us

Alter,

Marca reported the same thing. Cambiasso starts guys! Raul will support Moro....Zidane not truly a left wing here.

Portillo might still sneak ahead of Moro come Friday though.

The one thing not clear yet is golie though....but Iker has a better chance as Cesar is recovering from a slight injury.

I'm a bit worried about the center of the defense. Hierro and Helguera have never worked very well together. Even in an easy game like the one against Dinamo there were several disfunctions. Both have the same style and naturally try to take control of the deffensive line. They're generals and need privates!!

Hmmm...let`s see....Feyenoord is not my favorite team in Holland, but I should know something.

Feyenoord Rotterdam plays a 4-3-3 formation like most dutch teams.

1.Zoetebier (70) Experienced goalkeeper with almost 300 eredivisie matches. I think he played some months for Sunderland after 7-8 seasons at Volendam. Came to Rotterdam from Vitesse two years ago.
2.Gyan (78) Small and strong ghanesian with a great attitude. Competition from Song (Corea) this season.
3.Van Haaren (72) Bought last season, but was injured for one year. Has taken a place from Rzasa during the summer.
4.Van Wonderen (69) Good old mr reliable was moved into the center of defence last season because of injury problems. Ice-cool player who reads the game well.
5.Pauwe (75) Dutch national team player, has played in midfield all his life. Until last year, when he also got moved into defence because of injury problems. Physically strong, good passer, strong shot. One of the best players in the league.
6.Bosvelt(70) Mr.Feyenoord actually came to theclub as late as 1998. Made his way through Go Ahead and Twente before moving to Rotterdam. A 100% player with good moral and excellent positioning. Also has an eye for goals. Featured for the NT some time ago.
7.Ono (79) The real star of the japanese NT. I think he will make his final breakthrough this season. Watch out for him!
8.Kalou (78) Very up and down. At his best, he can get by most players. Usually plays at the wing, but with Tomasson gone, he could feature behind the strikers.
9.Emerton (79) The australian has been chased by a lot of premiership clubs, and Feyenoord should struggle to keep him. Can play as both right back and right wing, but in Feyenoord he is a winger.
10.Hooijdonk (69) Pierre means a lot for this club. He is a good role-model for the youngsters in the club, and posesses great qualities. His right foot is one of the best in Europe. At the beginning, the crowd seemed to be against him, but now he is a favourite.
11.Lurling (77) Came from Heerenveen this summer. A quick left winger with good ball skills and tough to meet in one-on-one situations. A joy to watch, but what about the development of Persie/Leonardo?

On the way in:
Defence: Song(79) South-Korean, need I say more? Should need some time to settle, but could be a real gem.
Loovens (83) and Spockel (83) two great homegrown talents.
Midfield: Buffel (81) loaned out to Excelsior last season. Could be a breakthrough year.
Attack: Elmander (81) loaned bak to Sweden. Leonardo (83) Persie (83) and Smolarek (81) are three other very talented players.

Feyenoord is "the Liverpool of Holland" (in other words, a reputation as the boring team). Although they are on the right track with players such as Ono, Kalou, Persie, Buffel, Lurling and Leonardo, and showed some nice play last season. On their day, they can beat both PSV and Ajax, but perhaps they lack the stability to win the league? Also, when they meet a defensive-minded team, they can`t find a way through the defence it seems.

The coach is Bert van Maarwijk and the budget is estimated to be around 45 million €. The home-ground is De Kuip (the bath-tub) with room for 51 133 spectators.

Now, a question for Eddy: What can you tell us about the fans? Do they deserve the reputation, or is it just some idiots who ruins everything for everybody

Del B still unclear on who will start in golie, and now Moro is most likely to start ahead of Portillo, but does anyone doubt that Portillo will get to come in, unless we have a good lead by half time? :)

We've got a pretty big group of hooligans who, don't know why actually, are very low profile at the moment, but certainly have earned their reputation. Of course this is only a small part of the supporters (as always) and the majority has got nothing to do with it. But there is a new young group of hooligans coming who seem to be willing to go for it. So tough times ahead for the club.

One advantage (or disadvantage?) that Feyenoord have a tough CL match today away to Fenerbahce in Turkey, and this might have some effect on how fit they are come this Friday.
