It’s been a decade since we last won the Champions league for a record of 9 times. As a matter of fact for most players the importance of this most prestigious cup in Europe is not less than winning a World cup trophy.

This is the 57th season of European cup and the 20th season of the new format (champions league format). The final venue will be the Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich and it requires 13 faultless matches to win this trophy for the 11th time.

I like to repeat this in every pre match report that we're obligated and have to respect every single team we play whether in Zagreb or Milan or London. The sooner we bag points in the group stage the better we can control the league and our destiny in the next stage of champions league.

Afterr seven games, defending champions Dinamo top the league on 19 points with Hajduk Split lying second, five points behind.

Dinamo Zagreb

Found exactly 100 years ago in 1911 this club has no shortage of cups and trophies as they have just won the Croatian cup as well as the Croatian league, the team Nicknamed Plavi or the blues .

With a capacity of almost 40000 Maksimir is not an easy venue for any teams facing the Croatian champions. Krunoslav Jurcic has again been appointed as a coach of the Croatian power house, he knows he team well as he has won a few trophies with them in the past.

Dinamo reached the group stage by defeating Neftchi Baku, HJK Helsinki and Malmo.

The team has no impressive history in Europe as they once reached the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Semi-final in 1960-61. Dinamo Zagreb is a current leader of Croatian league with 19 points.

Real Madrid

With 6 points from 2 games in laliga , We are going to kickoff our Champions league quest at maksimir this Wednesday. Even-thou we won our league game against cross town rival Getafe, we showed some sign of inefficiency in both offense and defense. Despite the win , Jose was discontent with the performance.

Talking about our players, karim proved why he is Jose's first choice by scoring two superb goals against Getafe. thankfully Gonzalo has kept his form and showed his danger even by coming off the bench, kaka also showed his interest to help the team and the est news was khedira return to normal training . we all wish Sahin and Altintop a fast recovery . We also looking for a tie result when Ajax host Lyon at Amsterdam .

Can we put the date and time in the topic titles? Please and thank you? :D

Good chance to play Kaka and make one change at CB

Nope. We will go with 100% into this. But Kaka could maybe start over Di Maria in some match soon, don't believe that this is the one.

So, it's all about 3 points. And let's hope for a draw between Ajax and Lyon in Amsterdam.

FC Dinamo Zagreb coach Krunoslav Jurčić is looking forward to locking horns with coaching "idol" José Mourinho and has the backing of former Real Madrid CF forward Davor Šuker.

Krunoslav Jurčić was one of the key men in GNK Dinamo Zagreb's last UEFA Champions League campaign in 1999/00 and 12 years on is relishing pitting his wits as a coach against "idol" José Mourinho.

The former Croatia midfielder began his second spell in charge of Dinamo this summer, instantly leading them through three knockout rounds and back into the group stage. And their immediate reward is a Group D home opener against Mourinho's Real Madrid CF with Olympique Lyonnais and AFC Ajax to come.

"During the last few years I have analysed [Mourinho's] work as a coach a lot, and I can say he is my idol," Jurčić told UEFA.com. "I don't want to hide that. I like his way of managing matches a lot, and his reactions during matches, he brings a lot of emotion into matches. If there are no emotions, football is not a real sport for me. Without people like José, football would never be as popular as it is at the moment."

It has been something of a mission for Dinamo to make the group stage again in recent years. They fell in the third qualifying round five seasons in row until this year when Jurčić ended that run. "To qualify for the Champions League means that we have done a very good job. Our goal for this season was to get into the Europa League, that was the main plan.

"Our team are young, and we have some new players, so we needed time to play at our best. But everything went in the right direction, some players played much better than we expected, and along with the technical staff and everybody around the team, things started to work perfectly, and we made it to the Champions League. This is a big reward for our team, and it's a big honour to play with the best European teams. But being in such a group of teams is a big responsibility, to represent our club, our city and our country."

The last time Dinamo were there, Jurčić played in draws at Manchester United FC and Olympique de Marseille, 12 months after securing a memorable 1-0 win at Ajax. "I have some beautiful memories from that era," Jurčić said. "First of all, I am very proud that I was part of that Dinamo squad, and that now I can lead Dinamo in the Champions League as a coach. These are unforgettable matches. I always try to motivate my players by saying, 'Guys, try to do something great during your career, so you can remember it forever'."

Backing Dinamo all the way will be a player who certainly did something great in his career, the club's former striker Davor Šuker, who later conquered Europe with Madrid. "The Champions League is so important for us, it's like a World Cup, these are the most strongest and most the attractive matches in the world," he said. "Dinamo have made really huge efforts in the last decade. They invested a lot and they were close a few times. But it's football, some teams are investing €100m, €200m or even €500m and they don't reach a Champions League group stage.

"Dinamo finally took that last step and I am so glad we will play against my other former club Real Madrid. I am looking forward to meeting them here and to being their host in Zagreb. Do I have advice for the Dinamo players? They should not think about the result – Real regularly score five, but I hope that will not be the case in Zagreb. This match is like a Champions League final for Dinamo."

Am going to the game. First time gonna see my beloved team, so exicted, so happy!:proud:

I don't care if they haven't manage yet to score in that "cursed" red jersey, I realisticly expect 1-4 win!

Dear God, one tackle from Miguel Torres and Kaka is injured. :rollani:

I'm opposed to Albiol starting, due to him being an absolute disaster, but I don't want Varane starting either. Not ready for this exposure, although he's shown to be mature beyond his years.

I'd much prefer Sergio slot centrally beside Pepe and the always reliable Arbeloa at RB.

I would rather see Pepe playing alone, then Albiol next to him! Pepe is just Pepe, so fast, covers a lot of ground, best 1 on 1 defender, I mean whatever he do, he's so good at. Simply my favorite player at current Madrid, then you have friking ALBIOL! He's out there to play with his hands on the ball (penalty), he's out there to make a clumsy fouls in 16m box (penalty), he's out there to force our Pepe to make a penalty cos of him, he's out there to score (auto)goal, he's out there to make all our teammates nervous ect.ect.ect.

So yeah Varane or Arbeloa all the way!

I think Albiol suffers from not getting regular mins and doesnt perform well coming in cold. He has had his moments, like the goal line stop against Sevilla.

I agree with you, Biina. And I agree with Joshua, I would rather see Arbeloa in our starting XI tomorrow.

Matches for Varane and Albiol are yet to come, we have to take serious our first match in CL.
