Barcelona interested in Alberto Luque
BARCELONA, December 29 (DS) - There are opinions that Barcelona now lack a central striker, whose main aim will be scoring. Patrick Kluivert is not very impressive at this position and, besides, he plays mostly in the midfield. Saviola is unable to cope with strong defence, whereas Rivaldo's task is a bit different. The best way out for the Catalan club may be the signing of a new hitman.
According to Spanish AS, Barcelona have expressed their interest in signing Real Mallorca forward Alberto Luque, who is also wanted by Real Madrid.
Luque has scored 6 goals this season and, moreover, he is Catalan and has grown in junior teams of Barcelona.
He started for Mallorca reserve team as a professional, before winning the first team place in 1998. After a brief loan spell with Malaga he returned to Son Moix, scoring 9 goals in his 32 appearances for Mallorca last season.

BARCA TARGET DEL NERI
by Alex Livie

CHIEVO coach Luigi Del Neri has emerged as a candidate to take over at Barcelona, should Carles Rexach prove unable to bring silverware to Camp Nou.
Del Neri is seen as a miracle worker in his native Italy, guiding Chiveo from relative obscurity to the top of Serie A, and his talents have caught the eyes of the Barca officials.

Barcelona have continually underperformed in recent season, and are firmly in the shadow of bitter rivals Real Madrid, something which is not acceptable in Catalunya.

Camp Nou president Joan Gaspart has reportedly earmarked Del Neri as his favoured choice should Rexach fail to deliver.

Del Neri recently told planetfootball.com that he would love the challenge of coaching on a bigger stage.

His attacking brand of football has taken Serie A by storm and he revealed he would relish the opportunity to try his methods on a bigger stage.

These comments appear to have filtered to Barcelona, with Gaspart looking at different options as he tries to wrestle the balance of power away from the Spanish capital.

Gaspart, though, has other candidates on his wish list, with Boca Juniors coach Carlos Bianchi an attractive option for the Barca hierarchy.

Let this be the official rumours thread ..

Easy there GJ. BARCA4EVER didn't comment on those rumours (which are crap yes). I think he wanted an " Official rumour thread". This could actually work. All crap rumours from planetwhatever.com could be placed in one thread - thereby disappearing from the rest of the forum. Take a look at the Inter forum. It seems to work for them. :)

@Gaspart: Do you know chievo? the team which is second in the italian league!! Del Neri is the coach of them, and he is a wonderful one!!

Del Neri may be good coach but far from wonderful.
Every year in Italian Serie A some outsider team make it to the top of the league but at the end they fail to stay at top.
Last year it was Atalanta this year is Chievo.
I know, they play some good football but I think they can do it all year long.
I would like to be Chievo on top but I just think it is unthinkable :)

Del Neri to Barça? Gimme a break!

There is a "slight" difference between coaching Barça and Chievo. :)

It´s not like Del Neri didn´t do a marvellous job so far, but that doesn´t mean that he´s able to satisfy the fans, handle the pressure, etc... in BCN.

Saviola, I don't Know Neri, and I don't know whetehr he is or not a good coach, but the point is that Barça have never signed an Italian coach beacause of their defensive style. That's why Capello didn't sign. So bearing that in mind, it is very strange that Barça are interested in a lesser know Italian coach. Add to that the source of the news, and we will be safe to dismiss it as plain bullshiit. Nothing against Neri, by the way.

@all: Chievo has 2000 or 12000 people living there..............!
It´s amazing what he did!
And when you see the style what they play!
Great offensive soccer!
Del Neri would be able to work at barca, he would do that good!

@Gaspart: I like more a defensive coach like capello which has success than a defensive coach like Rexach without succes!

Have you seen the game real against roma, i dont think that capello played defensive...!

Del Neri plays down speculation of move to big club
VERONA, Italy, Jan 3 (AFP)
Chievo coach Luigi del Neri said Thursday that he was flattered by speculation linking him with some of the biggest coaching jobs in Europe but that he will not consider any offers until the season ends.
Del Neri, an unknown until 2001 when he led tiny Chievo to promotion to Serie A and then to the top of the top flight, has recently been linked with jobs at Juventus and Spanish giants Barcelona when the current season ends. His contract with the Verona-based side expires on June 30.
"I am not Padre Pio and therefore I can not be ubiquitous," said del Neri in reference to the monk widely revered in Italy for carrying stigmata (wounds) similar to those that Christian tradition insists were sustained by Jesus Christ on the cross and who will be canonised by Pope John Paul II this year.
"I can not stop people speculating. But I can assure you there has been nothing concrete and that no-one has been in touch with yours truly," said del Neri.
Chievo president Luca Campedelli has already said he will offer his coach a new contract but will respect his decision should he choose to take on a new challenge.
Del Neri, 51, said: "With Campedelli there is a great relationship, perfect harmony. January is too early to talk about my future. We will see."
On Wednesday del Neri picked up another accolade when he was named by European football governing body UEFA as one of the continent's top five coaches alongside Liverpool's French boss Gerard Houllier, Mane Esnal of Alaves, Bayern Munich's Ottmar Hitzfeld and Inter Milan's Argentinian coach Hector Cuper.
"It can't be bad being appreciated at the top level," said del Neri.

IT IS A RUMOUR ( that he is coming ) .. WHY WASTE TIMES DISCUSSING WHILE WE HAVE THIS THREAD IN WHICH WE PUT ALL NEWS AND WE ALL JUST COME HERE , SEE WHAT IS WRITTEN THE IF ANYTHING IS REAL WE OPEN A THREAD FOR IT ....

plz MODERATORS make this the official rumours thread , change its name and make it a sticky ..

Me too, but Rexach was suppossed to be an attacking coach!!. Besides, apart from being defensive or offensive it is the style that counts for many Barça supporters (not me!!, mind you). At Barça you must play the Dutch style it seems to be to be labelled atractive. Robson who managed more than 100 goals in one season was dubbed as a boring coach because his team didn't play as much of the passing game as the Dutch way, prefering a more direct approach.

Saviola7, I admire Del Neri and everything he did and do for Chievo, but this guy would be a flop for Barça. Why?

1. Just like MxPx said, to coach Chievo and Barça isn`t the same thing. I`d like to see how Del Neri will motivate our lazy primadonnas. To motivate and to work with unknown players, who want to prove they are future stars, who want to get a new big club a big contract isn`t the same, that to motivate and to work with our lazy virus kingdom. Don`t you understand that?

2. Del Neri is Italian specialist. That`s why Spanish football isn`t close or well known by him. He grew as a coach in Calcio tactic knowledge with Italian football`s vision. It`ll take time to adapt here. And nobody will give a guarantee he will do that successfully.

3. With all due respect, Del Neri still didn`t prove much. OK, he beated Inter, almost drawed with Juve and Milan... Now he`s on top, and he`s Italy hero Nr. 1. But I will say enough! Enough of that "dark horses coaches" in Barça! We need a star. Yes, Cuper, for example, lost to Del Neri, but who`ll say "Del Neri is better than Cuper."? Pathetic sentence! Cuper played 3 Europe`s finals in a row, and what Del Neri did? What I mean is: let`s wait till Del Neri prove something serious to the world, till he will be signed for Parma, Juve, Milan... and will win with big club a couple of titles, ans then I will be the first who will scream to death: "Sign this guy! He is magnifico!" But now I still want Cuper in the house.

Well if we're still talking about rumors, supposedly AC Milan offered the injured Rui Costa :yuck: for Rivaldo      ... Now, smack me with a dead fish and call me Susan if Gaspart should agree to that and you can just call me Susan if that rumor is true.

Alfonso: I leave Barcelona without any regrets
MARSEILLE, January 9 (DS) - Olympique Marseille signed FC Barcelona striker Alfonso Perez on loan till the end of this season. The striker is likely to make his debut at the French side on Saturday against Bastia.
After signing on loan Real Madrid midfielder Rivera, Bernard Tapie finalised on Tuesday a 6-month loan of another Spaniard, the 29-year-old Alfonso, capped 38 times by Spain. The Marseille sports director has reportedly contacted the player's agent Manuel Ferrer about the provisional signing.
Meanwhile on Tuesday the player didn't train with his team and received Anton Parera's (Barca sports director) permission to leave the club.
"I leave Barcelona without any regrets since the ambition of any player is to play at a great club and I beleive Marseille is the one," claimed the striker in an interview with the Catalan mass media.
Since Alfonso hasn't been qualified by LNF (National Football League) yet, he won't enter the pitch on Wednesday at Monaco.
Alfonso was born in Madrid and played at Real Madrid youth team (like Rivera). The striker made his first division debut against Real Zaragoza on February 24, 1991. Later he won the Barcelona Summer Olympic Games with the Spanish national team. Meanwhile the years went by and despite the numerous titles, claimed with the Royal Club, the striker struggled to secure a first team spot. This deplorable situation saw him pack his suitcases in a move to another Real, Real Betis, where he spent 4 rather successful seasons.
His skillful performances secured him a spot in the Spanish national team. Capped 38 times, Alfonso performed at the Euro 96, the World Cup 98, as well as the Euro 2000, where he formed a duo with Kiko up front. Meanwhile his last performance with the national team dates back to the Euro 2000 quarterfinal against France.
The summer of 2000 marked the end of Alfonso's era. Scoring regularly at Betis, he failed to save his team from being relegated to the second division. The striker moved to Barca, however he failed to secure a regular spot in the Catalan side line-up and started in the half of their fixtures, scoring but twice. Barca coach's replacement (Serra Ferrer was replaced by Carles Rexach) didn't result in any visible progress for the troubled striker, who started only 4 times in the Spanish outfit ties, which is far from being a satisfactory result in the light of the forthcoming World Cup 2002.
The Spaniard hopes to prove with his Marseille performances that at the age of 29 he still can be of use to Jose Antonio Camacho's squad.
