The Rise of Malaga CF?

Has anybody else noticed the players these guys are picking up?!

Demichelis (Bayern)
Maresca (Free)
Camacho & Asenjo (Ateltico)
Julio Baptista (Roma)

Also noticed they have a Qatari owner, no doubt willing to start splashing the cash. Also the signing of Manuel Pellegrini as coach, though not sure if they'll be able to avoid relegation by the looks of things in La Liga this year.

Any Spaniards or avid La Liga followers who can comment on Malaga? Be interesting to see this team do a Villareal or Sevilla.

Surely they should be able to get past Levante in the table? they defended like a bunch of beginners against Real in that cup game.

They got some fun players too. Quincy and one of the best LBs to have come from Feyenoord, Patrick Mtiliga.

Asenjo will most likely be going on loan to Málaga since he can't take the first spot away from De Gea, plus he needs playing time as he's been injured since May. Camacho is leaving with a buy-back clause which basically makes him Atlético's if he performs well, which he should, he's a talented midfielder.

As for Maresca, well, he isn't what he used to be and the same goes for Baptista.

The new sheikh is most likely buying up to 10 players in January and I heard Gervinho was one of the targes as well. Let's see..I'd give Juanmi a shot since he's a fantastic prospect.

I want to thank Malaga for helping us finally get rid of Julio Baptista (if it happens, I really hope the deal doesn't fall apart in the last minute). Fantastic for us, terrible for them since he's completely useless these days. Maybe they hope the Andalusian air agrees with him and he will be rejuvenated, but I doubt it, they can spent the money they are planning to give him for salary much more wisely.

As said, filthy rich owners with ambitions. The new stadia is weird as their current one is decent, new and they dont exactly fill it up. Otherwise atm, nice players upfront, shit at the back. With the acquisitions should definitely avoid relegation.

Well... I see those names and I don't think none of them assure a great step forward in their fight to avoid relegation. In fact, all the noise around the club is pretty negative. They're thinking in new stadiums and big (but declining) names and they seem to forget their reality: they're in relegation spots.

Money is worth nothing if you don't have a plan. The new stadium thing is beyond stupid (unless they want to clean money for whatever reason). The squad is terrible and these names won't make them improve, if they're unable to work as a team. In fact, I've always thought that big names are not very positive in the bad times. That people will want to come here to grab the money and leave, since Malaga can not offer a decent project in short term.

Well... after the remodelation, the facilities are new and it looks nice. One of the problems of some Spanish stadiums is that they need to be updated. There's a new generation coming among the big clubs, like the one of Athletic and the one of Atletico Madrid. Also the new Mestalla, if they ever finish it.

I especially highlight the case of Espanyol. They have a nice stadium according to their size and the atmosphere looks great there... of course, it's a pity that they have to watch that shitty team every weekend. :D

Craptista is not good enough to start in any Serie A club. Considering the level of teams in La Liga between positions 13 - 20 are like Serie B teams, I expect Baptista to do well there.A finished trezeguet is smacking goals in La Liga.
:dielaugh: :palm:

It must be tough to score in serie A. Top scorer has 10 goals
Or maybe the players just suck and can't score?

Used to be tougher, though. Back in the 80's, when the teams were still using man-to-man coverage, 15-16 goals would often be enough to become capocannoniere - for instance Pruzzo, Platini and Maradona (granted, the league back then consisted of only 16 clubs but still, 10 goals in 17 matches is a better rate than 15 in 30).

If Baptista plays well in La Liga for Malaga it proves the league is a joke. :pp

Baptista was finished before his move to Roma. He wasn't exactly shining for Real Madrid/Arsenal. So should he find his form again, good for him, but it wont be because the league is crap(for the record, it isn't).

It proves that M.Pellegrini is a better coach then Caro,Wenger,Schuster,Spalleti,Rainieri who were all unable to utilize the beast that Baptista is!

Joshua once said Baptista is one of the most overrated players ever. Considering how he feels about Oleguer, that is pretty damning.

Jesus Gamez _SUCKS_ and is part of the reason why Malaga's defense has been a complete joke this year.

I called him overrated when he scored 50 goals over 2 seasons with Sevilla.

He's always been crap, the goal totals shouldn't blur that.

I agree, technically he wasn't that bad, but unfortunately one of the most brainless footballers I've seen.

I used to like Sevilla back when Ramos was managing them and even thought he could do a job at a big club. But he turned out to be a complete joker, running away from Spurs with his tail between his legs, and then doing the same at CSKA Moscow :D

I do not expect much from him, and I have to wonder how his Sevilla was playing that good.

Coming back on topic, Malaga can do about as well as Hercules with these players, seeing the latter has done more of the same basically. If Sheikhs bought Malaga to be a midtable club, then these names would be a good for a start to get a solid mid-table position. However, he will have to keep spending and improving every transfer window. I think with a bit of investment (read, far less investment than what Chelsea and ManCity had to do), he will be able to challenge for a Champions League club in 2 years time, IMO.

Malaga's a cool place, went there when I was younger with my folks.

The only thing I know about the club is that they had Dely Valdes (sp?) at some point. Was sort of a legend for them iirc.
