Arsenal are in negotiations with Stuttgart about signing the Belarus winger Alexander Hleb. Arsène Wenger wants to strengthen the right side of his midfield and has made the 24-year-old his principal target.
The clubs are not far apart in their valuation of Hleb, who is keen to move to Highbury. But the situation is complicated by Stuttgart's search for a coach to replace Matthias Sammer, who left last week; they have to decide whether to give his successor a say in Hleb's future. Hleb, who joined the German club in 2000, has three years left on his contract.

Freddie Ljungberg was Arsenal's only naturally right-sided player last season after the departure of Sylvain Wiltord. Hleb is expected to command a fee of about £8m.

I think this article is utter crap :D but i thought we might as well start a thread on him as this rumour is so hot you can't touch it.

The best thing is about Hleb is that he's two-footed yet he's got such great ball control. He's another of those slick eastern european attackers we all love to watch ;)

Surely he'd be wasted on the right? It's not like Lauren is an Ashley Cole type that can create width in your attacks either.

Hleb is an absoloute gun. I can see him in Arsenal as he suits their style of play. Could even become better then Pires! :lick:

I think getting his brother, Viacheslav Hleb, would be a better investment since he's the future for Belarus and already at 21 he's becoming a regular on the NT. He played great against Scotland on the right midfield, causing havoc in the Scottish defence. On the topic, Aleksander Hleb is a really good player and also tough. I don't know if he'll be better than Pires but he can definately hold his own at Arsenal, getting used to the English game can take time but he's very young.

I think that was more because our left back was dead on his feet.

Aleksandr looked the more accomplished of the two, I shat it every time he got the ball. Played more than a few defence-splitting passes.

I remember when Rangers played Stuttgart in 2003 Hleb was outstanding. I thought maybe we could buy him. Oh well.

If Hleb came to Arsenal he'd fit right in. I would play him more in the hole that Bergkamp will leave open once he retires. This player has good ball control and fantastic dribbling skills. A bargain at 8 million.

have you seen Emmanuel Eboue yet ? he's even more attacking than Cole and our future RB. ;)

the good thing about Hleb though is he can play anywhere in our midfield where he is needed while he's adapting.

You don't have that sound in English, it's the -gh- sound. Difficult to explain but if ever you heard a Dutchie pronounce BerGkamp, you'll know.

The funny part about his name is that it means 'bread' in a lot of slavic languages. :D

How do you pronounce Hleb? I presume it's not just simply H-leb?
you have to have a cold to pronounce it properly, i presume English commentatrs will pronounce it F-leb but twist their tngue a bit while doing it to make it sound more authentic.

LOL, yeah. My best mate is Polish, and apparently Belarussian is really similar to Polish, only written in cryllic. My friend calls him "the bread man".

Well, with Hleb pretty much signed, that leaves about 2 more players for Wenger to get, the Evening Standard thinks it will be a goalkeeper and a striker. If the signing of Hleb is anything to go by then this summer we are definetely buying some great players, and the squad will be what people have called for. £8m is actually quite a lot to have spent on Hleb for Wenger!!!
