For all the hoopla it is about time more than a transfer or two became official.

FFS. It's a slow market right now and you just completed Lamela. You'll have another player in the next 14 days at least, maybe two. You're likely waiting on Bojan because we're waiting on Sanchez, so I would think Stekelenburg in the coming week or so.

Riise Signs
Wednesday 13th July 2011

Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of John Arne Riise on a 3 year deal, for an undisclosed fee, which will see the player at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2014.

Former Liverpool defender, Riise, joins from Italian side AS Roma having spent three seasons at the club following his departure from Anfield in 2008. He began his football career at his homeland club Aalesund before moving to AS Monaco in 2000.

The 30 year-old left-back joined Liverpool in 2001 where he made over 230 appearances between 2001 and 2008. He has experience of playing in the Premier League as well as both prestigious European competitions. He won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005 when Liverpool overcame a 3-0 half-time deficit against AC Milan, to claim victory in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Riise scored in the 2006 FA Cup semi final win against Chelsea and lifted the FA Cup with Liverpool, who overcame West Ham United, in the Final that year.

A regular for the Norwegian national team, Riise has made an impressive 96 appearances for his country. He has represented Norway from U15s level up to the senior side. He joins fellow international team mates Brede Hangeland and brother, Bjorn Helge Riise, at Fulham.

Speaking at Fulham Football Club’s training ground this morning, John Arne Riise said:

"I’m delighted to have completed my transfer to Fulham this morning and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League once again.

"Fulham is a Club that I have been following as my brother, Bjorn plays here and he speaks very highly of the Club and the staff. Obviously I also played against the club in the Europa league group stage when they went on to reach the final of the competition.

"I know that the Club is ambitious, and continues to make good progress each year, under the guidance of the Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed. I am looking forward to working with Martin Jol and the rest of the squad when I report to training next week."

Martin Jol added:

"John Arne Riise is an experienced international left-back who will bring a number of qualities to our squad and provide more options for me.

"He is used to performing at the very highest level for both club and country, and is an accomplished player defensively, who can also contribute to our attacking play.

"I am extremely happy that we’ve been able to add him to our squad, and believe that he will prove a valuable addition as we progress."

English FA released statement

Statement: Franco Baldini

Thursday, 14 July, 2011
General Manager to leave after Euro Qualification games.

The Football Association can confirm that England Senior Team General Manager Franco Baldini will join Italian Serie A Club AS Roma immediately after the qualification programme for Euro 2012 is concluded in the Autumn.

It is important to make clear that Franco will continue in his current role on a full-time basis until either October or November 2011, depending on England's progress in their qualifying group. He will not commence his work with Roma until after this time.

Franco has taken this decision with the full agreement of England Manager Fabio Capello. At this time, it is still to be decided if Franco will return to work with Fabio and the England team for their February friendly and the European Championships (subject to qualification).

Capello said: “Franco has been given a good opportunity by Roma, but I am happy he will stay with me and the England team until after the qualification programme. For me this is very important. We can decide after this if Franco will be with us for the European Championships.”

FA Chairman David Bernstein added: “We respect his decision to accept the offer from Roma. I would like to thank Franco for the professional way in which he has handled this and maintained his sole commitment to working with Fabio and the team until after the qualifying games.”

Indeed, what I loved most about today's press conference was that Di Benedetto stated that Baldini, Sabatini, and Luis Enrique are running Roma now and that the American ownership will only be involved in financial aspects. They aren't football men, so they aren't going to be involved or trying to suggest who to buy.

Baldini will be running the day to day activities of Roma and that makes me sleep good at night.

Daniele Prade resigns and is leaving trigoria. He was supposed to be the vice of Baldini but left.

Just saw on another board this petition done some years ago lol.

Dear ASRoma,

I am a huge romanista and love this club since my childhood.I am very annoyed of Daniel Prade and I don't find him trustful.I prefer to have Baldini back.Prade is moggi-man and we don't want his corruption with us.

I demand his resignation or else fire him
:howler: :howler:

No more SuperDonkey

It's funny how the Liverpool official site states that he made two penalty saves against Uruguay in the semi-final. Hope they don't think he's a penalty killer

Any way good luck, wish him all the best

And of course, a few hours later, the official announcements appear on Roma's site. ;)

We got no fee for Doni and even paid him 1,5 mln. to opt out of his contract. Oh, well, still saved 2.7 mln. or so in salary IIRC. What a horrendous contract that was....

Riise was sold for 2.625 mln.

If I was Tuttosport I would dig up the post where I slammed the signing of that contract with Doni. But I'm not. Also, that might have someone counter with the post where I defend the Mancini to Inter transfer. :)wallbang:).

Resigning him at his wages was one of the worst, most unexplainable moves by a professional management team in the history of sports. Absolutely baffling how Prade and co. couldn't see his huge liabilities, and worse, actually saw him as a savoir. What a waste. Goodbye, Doni. Thanks for costing us a couple of scudetti.

#19 ·
Did we resign him while Spalletti was still here? Let's not forget it was Spalletti who saw Doni as a second coming to Christ in goal.

#20 ·
Spalletti is human, he did a mistake when it came to the goalie position. But he gave us far more good then bad. I will forever remember the entertaining football we played under him.

Zeman, Spalletti my fave coaches forever. And I hope Enrique will be added to my list as well, he is promising us attacking football and that we will always play for win.

#21 ·
I like Spalletti too man, but he even repeated it after 2 seasons ago when Julio Sergio played very well that he still believes Doni is a World Class GK :wth: Surprised Zenit didnt sign him :D
