There is still something about this team that we could have another Villa or WBA type game. So i'm not going to make a prediction, I hope Coutinho gets a start though.

Allen starting is unbelievable. Shouldn't surprise me that teacher's pet was going to be given a way back into the team.

 

Our season only started to recover after he was dropped, hopefully this isn't a bad omen.

 

Lucas has played too much lately, especially coming back from injury. Looked tired vs Spurs. A rest will do him good.

You're wasting your breath mate, Allen is the teachers pet who gets dropped for being poor don't you know. Allen has played well in his sub appearances so of course doesn't deserve a start ahead of Lucas who has looked poor in recent weeks. Poor enough for Liverpool fans to actually criticize him.

Coates needs to go on loan but too short on CB's to risk it, Wisdom deserves to be ahead of Coates as would Kelly (?). The guy has been awful every chance he has been given, not that he is awful to write off but can't be trusted right now.


As for the game, I probably would have added another midfielder against the saints and dropped Downing (as amazing as he is these days *cough*). Especially if they play like they did against City.

 

It's been a week since that match. And it's international footy next week.

Lucas doesn't need resting.

 

Lucas had 1 week to rest for the spurs game but tired and played pretty poor.

 

Allen will go on an operation soon, which means this is his last playing-time and others will have opportunities. Lucas played more than I imagined after coming back from those two injuries tbh - and yes, at least passing-wise he was very poor against Spurs, surprisingly poor actually.

 

Fvcksake people, at least wait until the game is over before jumping the gun.

Teachers Pet has not started a game in the EPL is ages and is more suited to the formation then Henderson.

 

You know how last weekend everything went our way, it feels like it's going to be the opposite this week.

Neither does the Lucas/Allen partnership work. Starting to see a pattern here? The simple fact is that Allen simply is a limited and overrated player. I fail to see why he would be any good as a AM either, doesn't have enough to his game to warrant a place there. Allen is more suited to being a bench player you bring on when you want to see out a game with careful passing, and that's about it. Not saying he's an awful player by any means, but he's definately not a starter for us and his strengths are far suited to cautious play in the last 30 than a starting 90.

 

Give the guy a break, he's been our best midfielder in the first three months by a mile, and has basically had an injury since.

Relax guys, and remember we're playing a 4-2-4 today like against Spurs. If Lucas needs a rest then we'll need to play Allen because Hendo doesn't have that discipline or experience playing in the defensive midfielder role that Allen has done brilliantly in the first few months of the season.

I have nothing against Allen. He is a talented player but I disagree with the tactical use of him. He should have another midfielder other than Gerrard alongside him.

 

It doesn't really matter, if we lose it will be Rodgers's fault and if we win it'll be on the basis of everything else but Rodgers succeeding in his plan. Same old song and dance.
