The Yanks need to be taught a lesson

Socceroos a weak Cup team: US coach
December 6, 2005 - 12:29PM

AdvertisementThe Socceroos have been rated as one of the two weakest sides at next year's World Cup by United States head coach Bruce Arena.

Despite Australia having beaten world No.18 Uruguay to qualify, Arena considered Australia and Trinidad & Tobago to be the easiest sides to beat in the quadrennial event starting next June.

World No.49 Australia is ranked higher than four other sides at the World Cup finals in Germany next year, with Ghana (50), Trinidad and Tobago (51), Togo (56) and Angola (62) all trailing.

"The last time around the easy games were China and Saudi Arabia," Arena said on the Sports Illustrated website.

"This time around you'd probably say Australia and Trinidad & Tobago are the weak ones."

"But Australia has basically all of its players in Europe, and Trinidad have a guy (in Dwight Yorke) who was arguably the top striker in soccer."

Arena has guided the United States to the quarter-finals at the 2002 World Cup and to eighth spot in the world rankings.

Typical ignorant yanks, Donovan, Pope, Howard, Keller, Friedel, O'brien, McBride, Beazley and co would get owned by the pass and move of Guus's boys :D Arena's living in his own little world, probably not realising we are even coached by Hiddink and that we have players in every top flight league in Europe.

BWAHAHAHAHAH! :D

Before you wankers get your panties in a bunch you guys have yet to read the whole article and the context Bruce described Australia being. The official link is below. Your media has done a fantastic job in sensationalism and making the likes of your lot believing that what Bruce said is negative.

Bruce is basically saying the all the groups are going to be hard. He describes Australia and Trinidad & Tobago being the weakest meaning that's not saying much since most of the Aussie players play in England and T&T having one of the worlds best strikers at one time in Dwight Yorke. If anything, he's being sarcastic about who the weakest teams are by justifying why they're not and why this World Cup is going to be a tough one.

So relax you socceroos. Don't believe your media hype. Bruce has never been one to belittle an opponent and he isn't belittling one here. If anything, he gives Australia the ultimate respect.

With that said, I think if the US meets Australia you guys would be football roadkill within the first 45 minutes. History and results speak for themselves. Winning in penalty kicks against the 5th best team in CONMEBOL doesn't say much at all when compared to what the Yanks have done. Cheers nonetheless!

Arena reckons Dwight Yorke was once "probably the best striker in World Football". :howler:

But anyway, I'd like to see a group containing England, Australia and the USA.

I don't see how that's funny. He was a monster at Manchester United and his stats spoke for themselves. Him and Cole were the deadliest partnership in the world.
