Should Beckham be named in the England squad?

Squad is going to be announced midday today.

I'm not a great fan of his but surely he should be picked in this current team.

Will Baldy back down from his premature stance on Becks or will he stick to his guns to save his pride and vanity?

he is one of the best 23 or so players. so yes

yes..hes done well for Rm recently...and more importantly hes not as tired as other players because he has played.... what...half the number of games or less than the other players..so yes..but whether to keep him in the starting 11 is another point of discussion...

No Gareth Barry - I wouldn't even bother with England anymore if I was Gareth.

Nice to see Bentley in the squad though.

at least hope that he plays bridge instead if P.neville :D

Sigh.

What does it it take for Defoe not to be in the squad? Same as usual, really, Neville, Downing. Nice to see Bentley in there anyways.

The players are insignifiacnt really, whatever formation we play, we will always end up playing long ball to Owen.

Oh ffs, what an utter knob. So the attacking football promised is now back to long ball. Congrats to Bentley, actually used skill to earn a place.... *cough*

Dyer almost gets injured a minute on the field last night, and sucked. He sucks in general anyway. Phil Neville? Why even bother getting upset at this point. SWP actually playing well isn't in the squad? Cos beckham has done what, la liga is a joke if he can have any effect. Jenas? Yeah, looked good against the postman. Ah... screw it, can't be bothered. I'm done.

:howler:

Dude, Beckham is better than half of the England squad.

Attacking football? Your dreams, England played even WORSE without Beckham.

Such as who? He's not better than Lennon, SWP or Bentley so doesn't much matter. Beckham is shit, end of.

Did you see us in the world cup? No we actually play better amazingly enough. And we're shit, adding a pile of more shit doesn't improve things.

Marc, admit it, Beckham wasn't England's problem as you've been even worse without him in the team.

Right now Beckham pisses over Lennon, SWP and Bentley. Are you nuts? The guy is averaging 2 assists per game and is generally producing danger every time he gets the ball. I haven't seen him play this well since 1999 season when United won the treble, if you stay true to the spirit of the game and base team selection on FORM, there isn't a better English RW at this point in time.

...that's because there are players at Real Madrid doing all the things Beckham cannot do. Put Beckham on the right side of this England team and he's what he was at the WC - complete dross with a penchant for the assist through his set pieces. But if that inescapable quality of his was good enough to start - then he should have never been off.

Aiming for Ruud's head is 'somewhat' different from aiming at Owen's....

We should be building for Euro 2008, Beckham will obviously not be part of that so what is the friggin point in recalling him. Lennon and SWP are the future right wingers, Lennon showed more in 20 minutes against Portugal than Beckham did the whole world cup (excluding a couple of set pieces).

The same could be said of Gerrard and Lampard, who never produce their club form for England.

I am not contesting that Beckham is more suited to Real Madrid than he is for England, but he could be useful with Peter Crouch in there. It's not like England have a wealth of world-class forwards anyway, especially with Michael Owen not yet back to his best.

I never said he was the sole problem of England, I said he was shit... and he is. He destroys any point of a team or midfield.

No, no he doesn't. He pisses over shitty la liga teams that fail against England teams the likes SWP, Lennon and Bentley do well against or at least turn up. Two assists per game due to his ability to beat a man and put in a telling pass, or the utter shit defences you have there who can't head a ball to save their life. This ability which is continually exposed as shit against top teams, yeah it works against trinidad and tobago... big whoop. Mate, I'd take your word on how well he is playing in a madrid shirt when my eyes fall out. SWP had better form as he can actually score goals, same with Bentley... and both can beat a man. Already more than Beckham can do, ignoring their ability to win a ball here and there too.

What...are...you...talking...about?

Shitty La Liga teams? So Lennon running over dross like Boro and Fulham merits a starting spot for him, does it? Bloody hell, I can just about digest any other reason for excluding Beckham from the National Team but questioning the league he plays in is _not_one_of_them. La Liga is generally regarded as the best league in the World, and he's one of the best players in that league at this point in time.

Nice to see Sevilla fail against Spurs. :rollani:

Beckhams playing well for Madrid no doubt. But who can honestly think tha Beckham (or any player for that matter) will transform that to the national team in this state.

We've seen it all too many times with England, club form goes straight out the window whenever that white shirt is pulled on. Beckham had to go after the WC, so why bring him back. Here's me thinking we were planning for the future.

I also find it mildly amusing that McClaren's big shtich(sp?) when he took over the job was to drop Beckham. Now not even a season later he brings him back in a hope to improve the team that he had astonishingly made worse.

Having said that, I really like Beckham and I'm pleased he's playing well but have we not learned from the WC? Beckham isn't the future. Guys like SWP's and Bentley are.
