Well i watched a couple of minutes from the first half of Udi - Fio match, from what ive seen they arent the udinese of last year (then again asamoah was an integral part of the team), but a couple of minutes of their first match isnt enough to judge from. Hopefully another win for us

Watchout for muriel though, he is one to keep an eye on

Udinese's defense is still good and Brkic is Handanovic 2.0. However, their mid seems to severely lack going forward.

I'd like to see this lineup:

-----------Buffon

--Barzagli Marrone Chiellini

Padoin Vidal Pirlo March Asamoah

-------Licht ----Dzeko

Licht up front? you're crazy. And Dzeko isn't coming here, stop dreaming. Marrone is not a CB, its only a matter of time before he gets exposed, i'd actually rather have Bonucci there ****ing up than this kid

:D I was just making a point, esp. with the Licht bit. Dude was our best poacher last game unfortunately.

No, I don’t think Marrone should bench Bonucci either atm, not just yet. However, I don’t agree with you that Marrone won’t prove to be a good CB…you don’t know that. But obviously playing vs. Parma and playing vs. a better attack and against a good CF are different challenges. We’ll find out how exactly how good he’s in 1-on-1 defense and decision-making against the likes of Di Natale e.g. Bonucci is 2 out of 2 so far. I’d give him 2 more games. If he keeps fudging up, then obviously he’s out of form and back to his former self, and Marrone should then start.

Dzeko/Llorente/Jovetic/Cardozo/anyone better than Matri&Quags…any one of those mofos would do. You can’t say fosho we won’t sign one before Sept 1. I’m pozitif. :D

Im not too comfortable with Marrone as CB either, though he did well vs. Parma. I'm still particularly impressed by his Coppa Italia outing last season where he played in a Marchisio role, and he really was confident with his passing and positioning.

Last year's corresponding fixture was during the cold winter. Matri was completely useless in that game, and I hope that "learning" is implemented in this game, by either partnering him with a support striker, or simply...not fielding him in at all.

But then again this is a verrry different Udinese. They did take the lead against the run of play vs. Fiorentina, but they weren't able to hold on. Maybe their minds are on the match vs. Braga...so they took their foot off the pedal a little bit vs. Fio.

I predict a draw here. A score draw. 1-1 to be precise.

It's not gonna be easy.

and i'm a realist, no striker is coming. As far as Marrone being a CB, i'd rather not, he's a midfielder and a damn good one. He has vision and great passing, playing him at CB is a waste of his natural talent

I think Marrone is a good midfielder too. He can play in all the MVP roles, and he impressed every time he played last season. But how many minutes do you think he'll get as a midfielder? Isn't he playing more important for him? Regarding the team, if he improves our defense, then all the merrier.

that's just it, Marrone is in a team that has Marchisio and Vidal in their mid 20s and are there to stay. Can Marrone take on Pirlo's role in the future? There is also Pogba to compete with now as well.

Making use of him as a defender may turn out to be good...we know he can pass the ball really well, has good vision....obviously he would need to improve his defensive skills but players completely changing roles isnt a bad thing. Zambrotta went from being a striker in his young days, to a winger, then turned into a full back and become one of the worlds best for many years.

I'm just thinking outside the square...i dont see Marrone ever breaking into this team as a starter in midfielder in the next 2 seasons.

with Giovinco out for 15 days, Either Matri or Quag will start the 2nd match

----------------Buffon----------------
Barzagli--------Bonnuci--------Chiellini
Licht----Vidal----Pirlo----March----Asamoah
---------Matri--------Vuci-------------

Im more of a 4-3-3 fan myself, allows more territorial dominance, Udi play the 3-5-2 usually too,
the 3-5-2 formation we have is more solid than the 4-3-3 right now, i prefer Giovinco in the LW position rather than vuci (in 4-3-3), his speed is vital, could help on the counters.

Hopefully not Matri but the new striker starting...

Buffon will start, Chiellini may or may not start, Bendtner far from getting any playing time because he has to go through the fitness training and learn our tactics. We may see a slow intro of Bendtner like Quags from last season.

#20 ·
I say put Brendtner in, see if the kid floats. Baptism of fire and what not.

#22 ·
Of course he isn't called up though, haven't trained with team. But Caceres and Gigi make their comebacks, and Gio is called even though he is supposed to be gone for 2 weeks.

The good things about Bendtner concerning technical and financial aspects have already been mentioned. Tactically he was a great acquisition too after failing to land a top striker. He can run (though I don't know if he has the stamina), has good enough technique to participate in our possession game, and most importantly he'll add to our nonexistent aerial game which has been sorely missed inside the box. Our aerial-duels-won percentage was one of the worst in the league when I checked it at one point last season. That was due to countless crosses being wasted.

after failing to land a top striker
Was supposed to be obvious. Not sure why some are still hellbent on comparing him with Dzeko/RvP/Llorente. There's of course a consensus that Bendtner isn't the top striker we were seeking/needed. Not exactly rocket science there. The dude sucks, but he sucks less than some other last-minute squad filler options. As a 5th striker, having failed in landing a top striker, he was a great last-minute acquisition. 0 money spent (Arsenal may even be paying for his salary), and he may just be better than Matri/Quags. Who did you prefer, Borriello or Floccari? Or did you want us to sign someone as good or marginally better than Matri/Quags for 10-15m who we'd be stuck with next season too? Get it?

#26 ·
The good thing about brendtner is...there is no ending to this sentence.

#30 ·
For a team playing with 2 strikers, you need 5 strikers in the squad. WTH do you have to lose with a free loan? Esp. when it's someone who could prove to be better than Matri/Quags? I don't get the logic behind this complaint.

#32 ·
We own half of Boakye. We only blew 4/4.5m on him.

1) Matri, Quags, and Bendtner are all far better than Boakye. There's no question of "chance" here.
2) Boakye wasn't going to develop further sitting on the bench.

It's better for both Boakye and the squad to have Bendtner (on free) in the squad rather than Boakye.

And I'm right. For the first time in my life I've actually watched all the preseason games bar one. He only semi-impressed (technically only, his decision-making was off as usual) against the very first friendly opponents, who were only a semi-pro side. Even Quags looked WC vs. them. He sucked in every other game. He'd struggle to start for a relegation battler in Serie A, and that's exactly why he was sent back to Serie B.

You're saying that we'll never know, but yet you're very opinionated about it...not knowing.
