The team intensified its work, less than 60 days away from from the world chgampionship in Russia. Coach José Carlos Borello says that the girls get ready for a difficult enterprise but that they have won justified respect. The team returned to training yesterday at AFA?s property in Ezeiza. They worked double shift for the first time, due to the proximity of the World Championship "Russia 2006" that will take place begining September 17. The team remained concentrated in the complex and will return to morning practice schedule tomorrow. Coach Borello carried out an appraisal of his players and of the possibilities the group has facing the future.
The session began with a first morning shift that included physical exercises; in the afternoon they rehearsed tactical movements with balls in pairs and trios, following the coach's orders.
The 24 women summoned were present: Catalina Pérez, Eva González, Mariana Suárez and Victoria Bedini (Boca Juniors); Liliana Casas, Joanna Bracamonte, Analía Hirmbruchner, Ludmila Manicler, Florencia Mandrile and María Emilia Mendieta (Independiente); Mercedes Pereyra and Melisa Ruth Leiva (River Plate); Florencia Quiñones, Gabriela Chávez and Bélen Lezcano (San Lorenzo de Almagro); María Natividad Potassa (Rosario Central); Amancay Urbani, Carolina Benke, Gimena Blanco, Gisella Lobo, Elizabeth Minnig, Marisa Farina, Vanesa Beratz and Gimena Blanco (AFA).
José Borello: "Before nobody looked at us, now they worry about us"
José Carlos Borello, born September 12, 1955, coach of the U-20 Argentinean women?s team, said, as he talked about the World cup that approaches: It is "a difficult enterprise and we are getting ready. A World cup is not an every day competition. The best juvenile women?s teams will be in Russia. They got there because of something and all will try to demonstrate they are not in the World Cup as a results of chance. It will be necessary to go slowly, because paradoxically, there?s still a lot to do, but at the same time there?s little. It seems a game of words but it is this way. In two months of practice we can increase our knowledge, transform errors into successes, reach conclusions, secure and give shape to the group and improve in all aspects."
[...] With regards to the definitive team, he made the following precisions: We will go at it in a gradual way, the official list of 21 players, out of which 3 will be goalkeepers, we have to release ten business days before the inaugural match. Hence we will evaluate all levels and will decide later. We will be playing several friendly matches before the World cup and we will see how the girls respond to the demands. I worry about the shape we will arrive in at the beginning of the tournament, not because of physical yield, because we do well in that, but rather what worries me is the close contact and friction in the play of the ball, when we have to compare ourselves with the top teams. We are practicing for that."
