Arg vs Portugal in QF's.

Book it

France have beaten Argentina just twice in 11 meetings (1971, 1986) - Les Bleus have never beaten them at a World Cup

It's 70-30 for France, a priori.

Playing defensive and closing spaces is the only chance for Argentina, leaving Messi and another attacker (preferably Kun) to do something in the offensive part. It's a negative approach, I know, but you have to be pragmatic here. Leaving spaces behind is a suicide against France, but they can find problems against a good defensive system.

They did it in WC'90 against Brazil, with that action of Maradona with Caniggia in the last minutes after defending the whole game. And it was a miracle.

They need another miracle on Saturday. But miracles can happen when you have God in your side.

This is like a final for Argentina, if they win this they will go far... not because the rest of their path is easier but because how much room they have for improvement with the time and confidence they get with winning this one.

Maybe, but that French team was not that strong, tbh. Never really gelled and looked suspect in some areas. It was pretty much the brilliance of Zidane and some individual efforts from players like Ribery that made the team seem really good.

Even though all teams in the Zidane era were nothing much without Zidane, this team was especially weak. The 2002 team with a fit Zidane would have been much better, imo.

Some reports saying Sampaoli will use Messi as 'false striker'. Interesting and surprising at the same time. Maybe they think both French CBs are too strong for Argie strikers and want somehow create them doubts and problems with Messi coming and going, and going and coming.

In any case this should be a secret until the moment of the match and not happily spread by the press, in order to create real surprise in the rival. Pep Guardiola did exactly the same in that famous 2-6 win at Bernabeu, but nobody could imagine such tactical move the day before. Not even in dreams.

I still see France big favourites in this tie.

If Aguero doesnt start (again), or if Higuain gets 1 minute (worst player in history of NT in missing chances), then i hope they exit...

Higuain will probably score today what with him being half French. Just a hunch.

Mbappe's speed is unreal.

With no major injury, Mbappe should comfortably end his career as an all time great.
