Madrid and Munich faced off in the 2012 semifinals in a thrilling series that needed penalty kicks to determine which team advanced to the final. Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals for Real Madrid in the second leg but had his shot during the penalty shootout stopped by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as Bayern Munich prevailed.

Neuer doubt for Champions tie

Image

While Real Madrid worry about Cristiano Ronaldo, Bayern Munich are now concerned about Manuel Neuer. The German keeper picked up a calf injury last week against Dortmund and is now a doubt for the trip to Madrid.
However, Guardiola was quite optimistic about the keeper's chances of playing against Madrid. "He will stay in Munich in view of the Champions League game, but he's steadily recovering".
Bayern believe the goalie's participation in the semi-final against Real is essential. "For us, he's as important as Cristiano Ronaldo is to Real Madrid", said MĂĽller after the match against Dortmund, in which Neuer was injured.
Neuer has been training individually for the past week and Guardiola does not want him to return to training with the group until Monday. The Spanish coach will then decide whether the keeper will travel to Madrid or, if that is not possible, he will remain in Munich with the aim of making the return leg.
The German's current situation is identical to that of Ronaldo at Real, as both sets of fans are eagerly waiting to see if they can play.

Cristiano again trained today on his off day :proud: trained on and off the ball and all reports indicate he'll definitely be in the squad for Wednesday's game as we still have 72 hours for the game.

Other than Cristiano; Ramos, Marcelo and Casemiro also trained on their day off :proud:

Cristiano looks super motivated for the Champions League. Lets hope he's able to give us an unforgettable performance.

A clean sheet IS very important. Even a 1-0 win would do as we can definitely score away.

Anyways, hoping for a 2-0 victory. Ramos and Pepe need to have the game of their lives at the back, with the midfield supporting them. Bale and Cristiano will be extremely important for the counters on each flank given Bayern pretty much play Barca's way.

This Bayern is a poor man's Barca. They do not pass as good as Pep's Barca, they do not retain the ball as good as Pep's Barca, they do not have the best player in Messi as in Pep's Barca.

Yet they have the mental edge. Won a bundesliga title early as hell, and all the trophies they won from last season allows them that mental edge.

But the truth is we have the better team. They beat a 10 man Arsenal and couldn't beat them at home. They had to dig really deep to beat the weakest Man U of the past decade at home.

The secret will be to contain Robben, Alaba and Lahm.

they really have a much better alternatives in the bench for attacking. I mean if CR plays we have just Isoc and Morata. and it will take something big for Carlo to through them into the game (like if we're loosing 2:0).

i seriously cannot see how we will be able to keep a clean sheet in this match;i mean we couldn't do it against far worse teams than this bayern, are you really expecting us to do it now?

#19 ·
clean sheet against Bayern is almost impossible , unless Iker and our defense bleed the best out of them , I predict goals and lots of goals ... hopefully more for us thou

now having said that Marca is suggesting; Carlo is going back to his usual 4-3-3 which means no ISCO

we cannot keep a clean sheet against bayern;we can only hope that we will at least win the match.

Well said!

That's the big question. Ronaldo and Bale will always start when healthy and rightly so. Di Maria and Isco did enough to deserve a spot in the starting 11. Benz need to start cause we don't play well without a 9.

Someone will have to drop to the bench unfairly.

btw Isco isn't the only one who started unexpectedly in our 2 biggest wins. Coentrao also started in those games.

----
I checked who earned us wins or draws by scoring after the 80th minute. Goals with no significance were not counted. Here are the stats (all 3 competitions)

Ronaldo 3
Isco
Morata
Pepe
Jese
Bale

Obviously Ronaldo is our biggest game winner. Bale's goal in the final was his first late winner for us. He used to score many of that last season. I was expecting a winning goal from him all season, he couldn't chose a better way and occasion to do that. I'm sure it will be the 1st of many here.

It's surprising not to see our 2nd top scorer in the list. Benz scored some important goals but not scored a late winner yet.

Don't want to start yet another argument but this is something I raised few days ago, I don't remember Benzema EVER scoring a late winner for Real Madrid. Again he might have since he's been around for 4 years and I'm getting old :D

Well said, Green.

Coentrao has really proved the haters wrong in a couple big games for me. Always liked him. I think Carlo is able to get more from him than Mou could. I mean, it's nice to see him play with us the way he plays with Portugal. I love Marcelo, but Fabio's solid play has me feeling secure if Marcelo is injured.

He's been good defensively, and provides good support for Cristiano on the wing on offence too. Nice two-way wing-back.

Also, Isco's form is really encouraging, and a good problem to have. I think it's good to have him and Di Maria competing for that last spot; it means we'll always have at least one super-sub coming off the bench.

There isn't a problem. Isco isn't ready for the first 11. 2 good performances doesn't prove he is over his initial I'm all that mentality. The kid has much to learn if he wants to replace some of our guys. 100 milion or not Bale has a higger work rate than Isco, Di Maria has twice the work rate of Bale and Ronaldo is the best player in the world. I am not impressed by Isco, after a few good touches he becomes sloppy and lazy until someone on the pitch reminds him there is a game going on and that has to go if we wants to even contest for the starting 11.

Howard Webb to referee Real Madrid-Bayern Munich

UEFA has revealed that English official Howard Webb has been appointed for Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first-leg clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Englishman notably took charge of the 2010 Champions League final at the Bernabéu, in which José Mourinho's Inter side beat Bayern. He also refereed that year's World Cup final in South Africa, in which Spain lifted the trophy after defeating the Netherlands 1-0 through Andrés Iniesta's extra-time goal.
Webb has overseen two Real matches this season, the 2-2 draw away at Juventus and the 6-1 thrashing of Schalke in the last-16 first leg in Gelsenkirchen. He was also in charge for Atlético's 2-1 victory away at Porto in the group stage and the quarter-final second leg between Atlético and Barcelona, in which Simeone's men ran out 1-0 winners to seal qualification for the semi-finals.
The Yorkshire-born official has previous experience of a Real Madrid-Bayern semi-final encounter, having also officiated the first leg of the 2011-12 semis, albeit on that occasion at the Allianz Arena.

Bring them on. Have complete confidence in our boys and Carlo :proud:
i have zero confidence in this guy;he ****ed up every BIG match we played this season.why would tomorrow's match be any different?

#40 ·
If one thing can be said about carlo is that he managed to experiment and learn everything about this team capacity without seriously damaging our chances to pull out one of the most successful seasons in recent history.

His biggest adut would have been Jese had not the injury happened. even with Ronaldos injury snd all the stars and new commers and not mentioning his first year.i would say he is doing just fine

With one major mistake taking benzema in el clasico :) instead one of the wingers

i am so pumped up for this game!!!there is just something about bayern and their players that makes me hate them as much as farca!!!!we play at our best and bayern play at their best i think we will win it!!!!the one player i am really scared might **** it up for us is alonso,we all know he sucks when is pressed and bayern attack will surround him when he gets the ball and also the other thing is his stupid tackles in the penalty box which invariably leads to him conceding a penalty!!!i just hope we play smartly and not let alonso get isolated which is what bayern will try to do!!!anyways madridistas lets be positive and hala madrid!!!!!
