I know most of you guys hate this thought as I do but lately Vecernji list has had many articles saying how Hajduk, Dinamo want it and even former HNL players (Pranjic, Knezevic) who left recently says its a good idea but without Serb clubs. Once again, what is the reason for the sudden need of a regional league that Vecernji needs to write something about it every week not

It's a dumb idea but they are still talking about it :lazy:

two edged blade

yes it would be much stronger than hnl
yes it would draw more crowd

BUT
who of the croatian clubs would really benefit from it? hajduk & dinamo and maybe rijeka and varteks. what about the rest?
whilst hajduk & dinamo are focusing their strenght on this regional leauge
and not really giving too much of a shit about domestic leauge what will happen to rest of the clubs if they're not playing top clubs when they really are top?
they will become even worse

it is not "sudden" need... need has been there for a long time. And the reason is that our teams get beaten by Cyprus and Albanian teams... is there an better reason?

It should bring money, develop players, draw crowds, etc.

HNL wouldnt go anywhere... As I said before - it would be like scandinavian Royal league, it would just attract more supporters.

And for those who said Royal league is an failure - team who won Royal league for 2 times in a row - 2005 and 2006- FC Copenhagen beat Ajax this year and is now playing in Championship League.

Valid point spwolf, but in the end I don't know if these games could pass without incident. The crowds could be very tough to control, and there is no way that traveling support could be allowed. Also who would run the league, I could definitely see a mess as far as the handling of such delicaye issues are concerned. In the end I don't think it will happen any time soon, but I know that for me it would be much more interesting to watch Hajduk play in Sarajevo, Mostar, Ljubljana, and yes even in Beograd.

Good points about organisation and travelling fans Grba. I guess that there would have to be huge security, perhaps even team security which travels with the team and the fans.

From an interest point of view I would love to see some of these games also!

But we discussed this before and Ero mentioned a problem. What team will get to go to Champs league or Uefa cup... intertoto and alike?

what does that matter? Since teams playing would be top teams from the leagues, they already would be going to Champs league or Uefa Cup, wouldnt they?

I guess if you are talking about traveling to serbia and vice versa... You could ban visitor fans, that would be an easy option for high security.

Of course, with goodyear league playing for so long, they dont have that many problems with fans anymore.

Another thing - how many people feel secure as Hajduk fans in Zagreb, during the game, or Dinamo fan in Split? Its about the same thing already. Other than first match, it would be the same as it already is...

If you want to just give 2 maybe 3 teams a shot like Dinamo, Hajduk, and maybe Rijeka and ruin the rest of Croatian football, then go right ahead. No on thinks with their brains...what will happen? 3 teams develop a certain amount of players...not every player will be able to play with those 3 teams and thus, you will miss out on some talented kids..then in order to compete, those teams might buy some foreign player and giving even less opportunity for a Croatian kid to play....so, of course no one looks at the big picture...while this could be good for the clubs its absolute disaster for the NT pool....not that anyone really gives a you know what. Of course, people will say, look at the amount of players on the NT that aren't from Croatia..well, fine, but, there will be even more non Croatian born players on the NT when it comes to some b.s. "regional league." and all those people that want one with the neighbors, none want it because of the soccer...most want it so they can brawl with the fans of the opposing team...and like the "Goodyear League" which draws no one, the fans will stop coming once the novelty wears off AND when they realize that it hasn't helped their clubs get one iota better....so, enjoy the regional league, but, I for one will see if for nothing more than the gimmick that it is and will stop cheering for Hajduk and stop paying any attention to it. I ignored it during the Yugo years because that league was not to be followed in my house and I can ignore it again if I have to, no big deal.

Nema sanse. Spwolf, if you were Hajduk's coach, would you really risk injuring your best players to play in some half assed league against Buducnost from which you'll never qualify for europe anyways?

No way, it would just be trivial bullshit with no crowds after 2 years, no Euro qoalification ever, no sponsors after 2 years and it will diminish interest in the HNL too.

Disaster, nikada.

why would they play vs Pula then? Not only they risk injuries, the also dont make any money...

Regional league will make teams more money... more than Uefa Cup... and why do we all want to play in Uefa Cup? To draw crowds and make money....

No Crowds? thats prettty damn hard, lol. There will be more crowds than vs Arsenal... and a lot more than vs Cyprus and Albanian teams.

And crowds bring sponsors...

lol... it is a lot easier to ignore reality when you live in NYC and give statements like that.

Regional league of some sorts, with serbs or not, will happen for sure. It is only way to save our teams from absolute anonymity.

A meaningless league means:

1. Coaches fielding reserves
2. Less fans watching reserves
3. Less interest in reserves
4. Less money for reserves
5. No UEFA recognition will render it meaningless.

Full stop.

For 3 more points in the bid to qualify for Europe.

I think any coach that fields the best team vs. Crvena Zvijezda and injures Luka Modric in the process deserves to be shot.

I think 90% of fans agree with me.

What does where I live have to do with anything? You right now technically don't live in Croatia and you seem good at making statements too. I believe I can make whatever opinion I feel like making about the situation, just as you can.

jure problem is they still have the jugo mentality over there..we grew up on the anti yugo mentality..its going to take years before this mentality changes in hrvatska..
