Ah, another season, another title.

Any predictions on whether Porto will win by more than the 16(20) point difference we won by last season?

#5 ·
What about this prediction: is Porto out of this year european cups or next one?:proud::howler::howler:

#8 ·
It's confirmed...Boavista will play in the bloody second division and Paços de Ferreira will stay on Liga Sagres. Well done.

#9 ·
Our league starts tonight with the clash of the two Vitórias. Guimarães vs Setúbal will play at D. Afonso Henriques tonight. I'm for the green and whites, of course. :)

#10 ·
Me too. I liked Guimaraes last season, but after this summer, they can go **** themselves. :)

Sporting seek an end to Porto's primacy
Friday 22 August 2008
by Hugo Pietra from Lisbon
in uefa.com

Sporting Clube de Portugal hope their Super Cup win against FC Porto augurs well as they look to deny their northern rivals a fourth successive Liga crown.

Friday start
The new season kicks off on Friday, with Vitória SC playing Vitória FC. Sporting themselves are in action on Saturday against CD Trofense, and having beaten champions Porto 2-0 in the traditional curtain-raiser last weekend, Paulo Bento's side have reason for optimism. "Sporting are stronger for beating Porto," said 26-year-old forward Hélder Postiga, a summer signing from Porto. "It was an important title, not because we won it against them but because it was my first trophy here. That win gives us confidence for the first Liga match. It gives us the strength to do good things this season, like winning the title."

Hulk signed
Marco Caneira and Fábio Rochemback are also back at the club after spells abroad while João Moutinho and Miguel Veloso have agreed to stay on, leaving the team that finished a distant second to Porto last season looking much stronger. However, while Porto lost José Bosingwa to Chelsea FC and Paulo Assunção to Club Atlético de Madrid in the summer, they have brought in some quality players in the likes of Cristian Săpunaru, Nelson Benítez, Freddy Guarín, Tomás Costa, Cristián Rodríguez and the wonderfully named Hulk.

Quaresma mystery
Jesualdo Ferreira's side start their campaign against CF Os Belenenses on Sunday with question marks still hanging over Ricardo Quaresma, who has not been playing for the club – a sign for many that he may be about to join José Mourinho at FC Internazionale Milano. That would represent great news for the Dragons' rivals, with SL Benfica particularly eager to turn over a new leaf and challenge Porto after Quique Sánchez Flores replaced fellow Spaniard José Antonio Camacho as coach over the summer.

Benfica refit
The summer has brought wholesale changes at the Estádio da Luz, with last season's fourth-placed finish considered a major disappointment. The Eagles have signed former Sporting midfielder Carlos Martins from RC Recreativo de Huelva along with Belenenses starlet Rúben Amorim and Boavista FC's Jorge Ribeiro – both of whom were once Benfica trainees. Brazilian central defender Sidnei, French midfielder Hassan Yebda and Real Madrid CF's Javier Balboa are also recent arrivals, with a new striker set to complete their summer spree. "Our performances have been improving," said Sánchez Flores. "We are much better than we were at the start of pre-season as we are a competitive team at the moment. We are now a more aggressive side who can make an impact."

If you are talking about the way your team played yesterday at Vila do Conde then I am indeed happy ;)

Liga Bjeca 08/09
Round 2

El Benfica vs Companhia da Fruta
Braga vs Sporting

As we want it or not this will be a very important round for the three big aspirants to the title.

The different scenarios of these two games may provoke three tables as different from each other as the following:

:yuck:
1 FCP 6P
2 SCP 3P
3 SLB 1P

:groan:
1 SLB 4P
2 FCP 4P
3 SCP 3P

1 SCP 6P
2 FCP 4P
3 SLB 2P

I believe we can beat Braga, even if they had a good game last weekend and we will be missing Polga, and I have a feeling that Benfica will not lose although I am not so sure that they will manage to beat the evildoers.

As usual, Jizzualdo starts inventing before a big game...Rolando instead of Pedro Emanuel and Fernando :eekani: in the midfield. :rollani:

#26 ·
The usual circus when these two meet. Porto is winning after a clean (for once) penalty that, this time, Lucho did not waste. As a reaction a Benfica fan decides to enter the pitch and attacks one of the linesman. Nice.

#28 ·
Helton piu piu piu piu piu :D

Cardozo equalises after a nice gift by Porto's keeper but good ol' Katso has a killer tackle which sends him off a couple of minutes later. 1-1 so far. Nice.

#29 ·
Too bad about the draw considering we were a man up, but I'll take a point at da Luz.

Weird line-up by Jesualdo for sure.

#30 ·
EsseLêBê 1-1 FêCêPê FT

Thank you Lord of the Holy Draw. :D

The first half was actually quite interesting with goal chances for both sides even if Porto played better. The second was marked by three things: Helton is a clown. Katsouranis was the best Porto player. The guy responsible for the physical dept of Benfica should go back to school as from as early as the 50th minute, Benfica's players starting falling like birds with muscle injuries...Aimar, Léo, Yebda, Di Maria, Reyes...unbelievable. It's also amazing how Porto did not take advantage of this plus the fact that they've played more than 30' with one more man.

No matter what we do in Braga on Monday, I'm a happy man after watching this. :hopeful:

Yes, I'm sure it had nothing to do with being a man down and wanting to preserve a draw. All those injuries were soooo belieavble. :pp

That doesn't make much sense. If you don't beat Jorge Jesus' team, then this draw is pointless. You have to take advantage of it.

Hopefully there's a repeat of the 3-0 thrashing Braga gave you last year. ;)

#33 ·
now, in order to recover the pts i lost tonight in the prediction league, the bermelhos from the north will be so kind to kick some *****cats in the butt :D

#34 ·
querias...querias... :pp

speaking of prediction league...do you know how many points I've got with tonight's Clássico?

#35 ·
u did predict the 1-1?

so....we owe it to u having survived the 35mins with 10 men??

with 10 fatigued men i mean???:D

#36 ·
Yes, I did predict 1-1 but I have nothing to do with it. Blame it rather on the cluelessness of Porto's players. :pp

#37 ·
i know man, the cherry on top of the cake was watching jesualdo go dark red :D

man, was he smoking pure hatred or what?:howler:

and i know that this is not a proper behaviour, but very much unlike what that asshole did by attacking the linesman ( i hope he spents the night on a very chilly cell :yuck: ) , i couldnt help cracking up badly at the sight of an onion on the pitch :howler:

He is such a poor coach but also lucky as hell. He should be going to Fátima on his knees to thank god for the brilliant performance of Katsouranis. :pp

Still about the attack by a Benfica fan on one of the linesmen of yesterday's match, here is what will happen to Benfica...

http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=802790&idCanal=11

So, in conclusion, in Portugal it's OK to beat the shit out of the refs, as long as the game can go on after that.

Last year, during a game between Denmark and Sweden in Copenhaguen, a Danish fan tried to attack the ref. As a result Denmark lost the match 0-3.

Also during the last season in Spain, a Betis fan attacked the keeper of the opposing team. Betis had their stadium closed for 2 matches.
