"The Master Of The Area", as Cruyff Named Him

I voted Romario, but I doubt he'll win this poll as he's been in Brazil for half of the '90s and European-based players always get more votes.

The reason I chose him was simple: No other player from that list matches him in sheer talent & achievement. Baggio would be the closest one in terms of talent, but Romario was World-Cup champ and Baggio wasn't. All the others are simply below Romario's level, none are fuoriclasse as "Shorty" is.

And the inclusion of Papin is somewhat funny...

I thought we were finally realising that attackers doon't have to be the best players.... guess not

Anyway, the 90's are really more like two era's: early nineties with van Basten, Romario, Hagi etc. Late nineties with Zidane , Figo, Ronaldo, etc.

Voting for late 90's, it would have to be either Zidane or Deschamps for sheer accomplishment with their TEAMS.

It's a disgrace not including either two or Desailly in this post. Let's just deny that France was the dominating country late 90's and Juventus the dominating team....

I voted for Batistuta:strong:

Alright, peeps! :)

Don't shoot me for the choices. It's really a tough call choosing these players. In any case, to suit the demand, I shall split this poll into early & late 90s. I shall try not to repeat any players, with the possible exception of Batistuta.

If you've voted for a player in this poll, and his name is transferred to the other one, please vote for him in the other one.

Sorry, it's a bit troublesome. But glad you guys like polls like this.

Well said Toro.Baggio was the only man i could vote for too.

I rate him among the top 5 players of all time.

Van Basten is the man...
It is a shame his career ended so early.

van Basten could have become the greatest player of the 90's if it wasn't for his injury problems...:(
He was already a fantastic player before the injury, but in my opinion he didn't showed his full potential yet by then...

They say an attacker is on his peak when on age 28/29 and we've never seen a fit van Basten on that age...He could have taken away all the doubts in this poll who was the greatest, but well this is just the way it is...:depress:
