Hidetoshi Nakata is the one going under our judgement today.
The Japanese trequartista arrived from Roma for a good 18 million pounds this summer, but he has done little to justify his price or the hype about the move.Early in the season,he struggled with fitness problems, but even when he got past those, his performances have been notably sub-standart.He has scored twice, one sealing the home win over Brescia and his other goal was last week against Brodby.
Considering that Parma started the season with a 3-4-1-2,allowing him to have his place behind the strikers, supposed to be his favorite one, there are little excuses for Hide.Ulivieri attempted to use him as a left sided forward in a 3-4-3 but this lead to even worst performances for his side.Parma had the best game of the Ulivieri era at the 1-4 away demolistion of Utrech in the UEFa Cup,with Nakata being an unused sub.Passarella upon his arrival immediatelly benched Nakata but started him against Brodby and Roma, with Hide showing some very weak signs of improvement.
When he plays,he shows the occasional glimpse of quality and class, but for most of the time he struggles and wonders helpless in the field, while his passing leaves a lot to be desired.
As the January transfer season approaches, his future at Parma is unclear.Passarella probably fancies a 4-4-2 formation which leaves no place for Nakata, but its doubtfull whether the Tanzis will throw away the financial potential the tandem of Nakata+world cup in Japan could bring.
One thing is for sure,Nakata's season so far has been poor.Very poor...
