Two great clubs will meet in Istanbul for the Champions League Final on May 25th 2005. It has been 20 years since Liverpool were last in a European Cup final and only since 2002/2003 since Milan won over Juve at the Old Toilet. Two great clubs with great histories, Liverpool are gunning for their 5th European title, previous ones won in Rome 77, Munich 78, Paris 81, and Rome again in 84. Brussels 85 were their last appearance, losing to Platini's non existant penalty call and the death of 39 Italian fans (RIP). Milan have won 6 European Cups/Champions Leagues and attempt their 7th.

A great match and a cracking atmosphere is on the books.

YNWA

Ps. Can we get maybe a Milan fan to give us a preview or brief history stats for this build up to the game?

I was just going to post a similar thread, but you beat me to it :D

Anyway, huge game, massive final, the Chelsea game was the biggest game for me as a Liverpool fan, but this certainly will be bigger, especially if we emerged winners. I want us obviously to win, but if we eventually lost the game I'd still be proud of what the team has achieved in Europe this season given the circumstances we went through

Xabi will be back from suspension which is great news for us, I didn’t watch Milan’s game tonight but as I know that entering the game, they didn’t have any suspensions or injury worries. Don’t know if any are suspended now, nevertheless, Rafa and the lads have done the unthinkable, it’ll be our night back amongst the top sides in Europe.

I am not sure, but I believe if we compared the players of both clubs, AC Milan is certainly better than us, but that was the case vs. Bayer Liverkusen to some extent , Juve and Chelsea certainly, yet we came out victorious in all these ties.

Dudek: You have been good so far apart from that blunder vs. Liverkusen, we know you can do it on the biggest stage, this is your moment to prove it

Finnan: You are the amazing, always consistent right-back we signed from Fulham, your passion and commitment to the team are unquestionable, and one more night of solid defending keeps you away from a trophy that has eluded everyone for 20 years

Carra: You have been without doubt our player of the season, you saved our ass countless times already, and you are everywhere and doing everything, things that would make Terry and Rio and the bunch stare and wonder at. You are simply too good to be true this season, you are one of a kind, and we are proud to have you as a TRUE RED. Only 90 more minutes are between you and that CL trophy!

Hyypia: Despite not getting any younger, you have been immense at the back along with Carra, you did everything as expected, you even scored like a striker!

Traore: Along with Biscan, you have been the most improved Liverpool players. Against Chelsea you were huge, please, shut everything and anything that comes from Milan’s right flank.

Luis Garcia: You might be the shortest player on the pitch, but your contribution, your shots, your creativity make up for it, you scored in every tie, make this a final to remember for yourself, us and Barca fans who still remember and like you. You might not be as good as Dalgish (yet), but you may have a golden medal in less than three weeks if you provide another inspiring performance from the right of midfield.

Xabi!: You missed the semi, we missed you much more! But you will be back for the final, along with Gerrard you two can do it both defensively and attacking-wise with your passes and shots. COME ON XABI!

Gerrard: Our captain never looked so happy before as he looked after the Chelsea game, he said he’d stay if Liverpool proved that we could win trophies and reach finals, and here we are Stevie. We reached the final, now we need you and all the lads to hopefully WIN it! Lead them by example

Riise: Along with Carra you have been amongst the most consistent players for us. Lets do this!

Baros: We know you are leaving sooner or later, but give us a game to remember, a game that fits and reminds us that we have the top-scorer at Euro 2004, the player who can be the nightmare of any defense with his pace and tricky runs. Add it to your CV before you go and leave as a star amongst the Anfield faithful

Cisse: The fact that you are currently playing is astonishing as you have been earlier ruled out for the rest of the season and not expected to be back to light training until late June or even farther, you almost scored vs. Chelsea, prove your worth in IstanPOOOOOL!

I know I exaggerated a bit, but I am overexcited over the fact that we’re in the final!

By the way, anyone traveling to Turkey? I want to but it seems I won’t be able to, guess I’ll go to a pub and enjoy the game with some REDS fans.

The dream final for me has materialised. Liverpool and Milan. Two of my favourite clubs in action. Never before since I started supporting both sides 17 long years ago has they met each other in official games, so this one cannot come at a bigger stage than the CL Final.

As to who I think will win and who will I support in the Final, I would say that my heart says Liverpool but my mind says Milan. Perhaps I will be happier to see Liverpool win, since winning CL is the most realistic chance for it to take part in next year's CL, while Milan is assured of their place in next year's competition. As to who I will support, I think I will be rooting more for Liverpool. But no matter who wins, I will be celebrating with one of my club.

Which will it be? The answer will be revealed come May 25 in Istanbul.

A old post by Giocurvasud :shades:

" There's a english song, that we currently sing in Curva Sud, which is the Liverpool traditional anthem and it's from 60..It says:

Walk on walk on
with hope in your heart
and you'll never walk alone
you'll never walk alone

There was a guy, in our group (tells the narrator) that had a record with all these songs, and he was froma group which isn't used to use magaphones: the songs in that group starts spontaneously..In this record there was this *You'll never walk alone*, which is a very emotional anthem and we liked that so much that we tried to learn it, but due to our bad knowledge of the language we had to write it down the lyrics ; the guys at the beginning said *welcome* instead of *Walk on*, so we explained the guys what was the meaning of the words until we learnt it.
This song made us famous all over Europe because we sang it when the Liverpool supporters died in Sheffield. It happened by saturday and we had the match against Real Madrid on sunday (that we won 5-1, a truly memorable moment)

We prepared a banner "SHEFFIELD: YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE" and we waited for the minute of silence, and we were prepared to sing the song and put the banner our, but the referee whistled the sudden start of the match. We put out the banner believing it was over but the referee suddenly stops the players and tributes 1 minute of silence in honour of the victims. I (narrator) was there, without even a micro but i standed up on the barrier and we started with this song *You'll never walk alone* without micro. I have the video at home and all the players are there standing up and you see the whole stadium standing up, and clapping.
You can clearly see the referee staring at me because the song can be clearly be heard by the pitch and the whole Curva starts the song with great powerful voice. When i tell this i'm still proud and emotive; on english telly they shooted it for 6 months and we got bags of letters from England: "you're friends of us and you'll be forever"

c'è una canzone inglese che noi facciamo che è l'inno del Liverpool che è Walk on una canzone degli anni 60 che è stata presa dai tifosi del Liverpool come loro inno col ritornello che dice

Walk on walk on
with hope in your heart
and you'll never walk alone
you'll never walk alone

we came out victorious and it wasn't a freak accident. I tell you what, take another good look at both teams. Sheva is the only their player that I would swap for one of ours (Cisse). Milan strong as a team but so are we. imo Chelsea were the best team of the competition, they scored at will against any other opponent, and we not only beat them, we nullified them!

Chelsea wasn't the best team in the competition as they played three consecutive bad away games in the competition's knock-out round. That's not the stuff of champions. Maybe next season they will improve on it but a team that continuously loses three away legs in the knock-outs was asking for a beating at some stage. Add to that the fact that they came out in the first leg against you lot as Zombies with fear. They were far from the best team. I didn't have time to post this but they lost the tie even before the second leg kicked off when Mourinho stated that even if his team loses they will return to London as Heroes! :eyepatch: He had the press prepared for Plan B while Benitez only said one thing that Liverpool will beat Chelsea and you will see that happen tomorrow. That's how you deal with it.

Chelsea would've been creamed in the final. It will be a much tougher final with you lot because with lesser resources you have got the results vs. Leverkusen, Juve and Chelsea and not lost a game. You can't lose more than a game in the knock-out IMO and Chelsea lost 3.

you took it personally, Haroon. :) and I still think Chelsea were the best. They lost to Barca with 10 men, not a big shame, especially considering how they grilled them at home. They beat Bayern 4:1, ok ref and the whore made it 4:2, after that they, yes, technically lost the away game cuz they finished the game 1 min earlier than Bayern, knowing the tie is over and they won. imo it's not the biggest crime after you won the first leg 4:2 to take foot off the pedal in the 90th min while leading 2:1. And they did that without having their master tactitian on the bench. And nobody gave them the roasting that PSV gave your guys. It's just the Dutch luck or rather the lack of it that none of their teams are in this year's finals.

I didn't take it personally. ;) Agreed with your post but the fact is that a team doesn't become European Champion by losing 3 consecutive away legs and that too in the knock-out. ;) They're defence was all over the place during that phase as well whilst they conceded very few goals in the group stage.

They forgot the style that brought them to the knock-out in style and then went for a Utd. style game with an open game on either end. They lost the plot and if you ask me, honestly had I known that Milan would be guaranteed in the final the day I saw Chelsea Vs. Liverpool at the Bridge I would've picked Chelsea in a heartbeat coz they would've been roasted in hell. I don't know what happened to them and I don't know why they were so nervous but that was so unlike Mourinho and Chelsea to be so rattled even before kick-off!

It will be a tougher final with your lot but I have belief.
