1 Buffon, 2 Panucci, 3 Oddo, 4 Zanetti, 5 Cannavaro, 6 Ferrari, 7 Del Piero, 8 Gattuso, 9 Vieri, 10 Totti, 11 Corradi, 12 Toldo, 13 Nesta, 14 Fiore, 15 Favalli, 16 Camoranesi, 17 Di Vaio, 18 Cassano, 19 Zambrotta, 20 Perrotta, 21 Pirlo, 22 Peruzzi, 23 Materazzi.

I suppose numbers usually dont matter, but I would have preffered Pirlo at number 20 because number 20 usually goes to the player we expect to be a surprise to others in the tournament

who was the first to debut with the azurri team ?
Who gives a shĂt? Do you think that Italy gonna win something because they have some players that were first in the azurri? :rollani:

Totti deserve it. Del Piero is a "has been", in NT he is "never was"

I disagree. Since when are you a "has been" when you were performing well and won the scudetto with Juventus only 1 year ago? c'mon man, how quick some of you guys are to forget.

Alex Del Piero will prove all his doubters wrong, and i feel it was a slap in the face for him to be given the #7 jersey. I think he's been a symbol for Italia for years and the numbers should be for the longest serving memners, and DP ranks up there amongst the top alongside Nesta, Canna and Vieri.

i could not agree more!!!!!!!!

DelPiero saved Italy from elimination at the 2002 world cup with his famous goal against Mexico and he would do the same in Portugal....... :( :(

Oh shhhut up. This is getting so ollld and stuupid and just plain retarded stuff. I mean, how stupid can people actually be?? :rollani: I don't expect any better from Roma or Parma fans that don't give shhit on the NT and hate Del Piero for obvious reasons, but this is the opinion of too many XTimers including Juventini...

Alteast there are still some sane people around here... Del Piero rules.. he deserves both number 10 and number 7 together :) but he prefers number 7, his old lucky number his first days as a player and a player signalling a forward which is what he is... he prefers all the pressure to go on Totti, because Totti cares about the whole fame and ego thing... Del Piero just enjoys playing and scoring goals... he wants to play where he wants and where he is the best.

Millions of people watch the Azzurri at the Euro and for them Italia means Del Piero. If you can't see that, then you're a moron. Period.

everyone agrees that DP never showed anything for NT, let's hope he does next month !
Let's hope they don't bench him as usual, because everytime he's given a chance, real chance 90 minutes in his correct position, he does best...

Stop calling people morons. And stop making ridiculous claims like the quoted one. How come there are so many people who want DP out of the starting 11 when he "means Italia"?

Because they're morons ;) Look, I'm only replying back with cusses made towards people who think Del Piero SHOULD START. This is just becoming too much... obviously, we're all in heat of argument because we care.

He means Italia for many people around the world like Gaetan said. Some people seem to differ. Those are the same kind of people that were in the mindset to bench Del Piero in the WC. As it turned out, he was our only bright light there, and because of stupid tactics and formations, he didn't get a chance to play all the tournament because he could have won it too... he was brilliant. He means Italia because everytime people watch him , whether in the CL or in NT or in any international affair, they're at awe at his skill, brilliance and elegant way of playing. Just like some people relate to the nice playing touch of Zidane or Henry, many others relate to this Genius... and claim (rightfully IMO) that's he's unique and the best there is... that's why it means Italia to them... because of his outstanding technical skill and because of his amazing success and cool behaviour, for example scoring back heeled in a CL final , or scoring brilliantly against Real in a semi final, or being 1 of 2 players who actually scored the penalty in the final.... he is a winner and he captures the heart of many. He's also a victim of too much pressure of media, fans only desiring blood, scapegoat, and benched because of defensive tactic, being played out of positin, and he suffered because of it.. much like Baggio, Ravenneli, Zola, Signori and others.....

Everyone? speak for yourself, buddy. I think Del Piero hasn't been very lucky with the Nazionale and generally speaking he's been one of Italia's best performers. What's wrong with all this crap is people are trying to single out a single player for Italia's failure which is just wrong. Del Piero is a fantastic player and will probably be starting in the Euro, and if he does then i plan to show him my full support. I have more then enough faith in a guy who is obviously as talented as they come in the segunda punta position. On top of that, in World Cup 98 which he didn't score any gols he was just coming off an injury but ofcourse no one gives him that courtesy, simply pathetic.

I can understand people who have lack of trust about him, but you cannot question his talent & ability. The Roma tifosi could be biased and think Cassano is better, but the amount of Del Piero haters on this board is ridiculous.

Gee, it's amazing what higly developed sense of imagination the people here do possess considering how a topic about squad numbers has turned out to be a dp-totti thread for a zillion time.

Kudos to you.

i won't bother adding to the DP-in-NT issue, but i like that DP has the #7 shirt. Raul's number for Spain and Beckham's number for England... Seems right for me... And Pirlo at #21?? Zidane's number... Perfect....:)

I'd actually much prefer to say Raul's wearing DP's number and Zidane Pirlo's. :D
