AUFC MEDIA RELEASE - NEW PARTNESHIP AND MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR UNITED FANS

Today the Adelaide United Football Club announced a new partnership agreement between the Pickard Group and Bianco Building Supplies to jointly hold the license for United in the Hyundai A-league due to start in August 2005.

In another major announcement, United officially launched the new Membership and Season Tickets to go on sale from Monday March 7, 2005.

Last year’s season ticket holders will get a special privilege offer with a 2 week window to purchase either Membership or Season Tickets starting from Monday 7th March concluding Monday March 21, 2005.

The offer will be open to the general public from 9.00am Tuesday 22nd March 2005 from all VenueTix outlets. Tickets can be purchased by contacting VenueTix on (08) 8225 8888 or by visiting the Adelaide United website – on www.adelaideunited.com.au.

Both offers will include the Pre-season Cup home matches @ Hindmarsh Stadium starting from Friday July 2005 and the Hyundai A-League home games. The package includes a total of 12 home games excluding Hyundai A-League Finals games.

Football Federation Australia CEO Mr. John O’Neill attended the press conference along with Head of Operations Mr. Matt Carroll to congratulate Mr. Gordon Pickard and Mr. Nick Bianco in the Club’s new venture.

Press Conference involving big-wigs from the FFA and AUFC has just wound up out at Hindmarsh Stadium and some major announcements have been made with regards to Adelaide United FC. Crowd close to 2000 Goal scores were Lucas and Vidmar.

First half hour was woeful and the Knights should of been in the lead. Two golden chances, one smashing into the cross bar with Beltrame beaten. United's first goal was against the run of play late in the first half, and scored again a couple of minutes later. Second half was all United with the Knights hardly getting in sight of goals.

They'll be releasing new kits in early August (all clubs will be supplied with Reebok kits) but I imagine they won't change much. I wouldn't be surprised if they're pretty much the same thing as Liverpool's kit is:

But instead with a bit of blue and yellow in it.

 

i don't understand why they're waiting till August to release them, i'd love to buy a Sydney one right now (that's if i like the damn design)

 

Probably to coincide with some big function they'll have, like a proper 'season launch'. The three ex-NSL clubs will be using their ones from the last NSL season in the world club championship qualifiers, I assume.

 

See i don't agree with that idea. They should be 100% ready and functional before their WCC qualifiers and that includes having the proper kits but anyway they don't care what we think

Rob Cornthwaite is a young goalkeeper I think, he'll be back up for Beltrame and Bajic. I think he played for Enfield U23 last season.

Australian soccer could receive an unexpected spin-off by qualifying for next year's World Cup with overseas players predicted to flood home for the newly-formed A-League competition.

That was the belief of Socceroos striker John Aloisi who is currently plying his trade for Osasuna in the top-flight in Spain.

The 29-year-old felt returning to Australia would be a more attractive option for players nearing the twilight of their careers if they had reached the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

"Who knows after the World Cup how many players will be coming back," Aloisi said ahead of the Socceroos' friendly against Iraq in Sydney on Saturday.

"We are just concentrating on the World Cup now, and a lot of the players have to be in Europe playing to a high level until the World Cup, but after the World Cup I am sure you will see quite a few of the players coming back.

"And not at a late stage. You look at (captain) Craig Moore at 30, 31 myself if I did come back.

"I am not saying that I am going to, but (I'd be) at 30, the league could be strong."

The South Australian's comments follow Moore saying he was considering returning home to play for the Queensland Roar next year.

Aloisi has been playing in Europe since heading over as a teenager for the 1992/93 season and has scored 24 goals in 113 games at the Spanish club after moving from then English-premier league club Coventry City.

"That is why we are overseas, so the national team gets a lot stronger and a lot better after you have played in the World Cup you might think about coming home because you have achieved," he said.

Aloisi wanted to finish his career back in his home town of Adelaide but would not put a time frame on his return.

"To play in Australia in a league which is going to get around 15(000) to 20,000 a game is exciting, we are trying to build Australian soccer," he said.

"We want to do what is best for Australian soccer and we want to help out and I think that is what the players that have been away for so long want, to put something back into the game here in Australia and myself in Adelaide, if they want me."

Aloisi has the added attraction of his brother Ross playing for Adelaide United in the opening A-League season starting in August.

The majority of the Australian squad land in Sydney on Wednesday night with a clash against Indonesia in Perth this Tuesday following the weekend's clash with Iraq.

Aloisi said the Socceroos would be wary of Olympic semi-finalist Iraq after it bundled out the Olyroos 1-0 in Crete at last year's Athens Games.

"They did well, they were pretty good. They caught us on the counter-(attack) and they are not a bad side," he said.

"They surprised a lot of people and hopefully they don't surprise us again."
