Lazio is favorite to sign Gremio's Brazilian defender Juan. The player is very unhappy with his team, that is playing very poor and the results are even worse.

Already this summer Lazio was looking at the 22-years old defender that would cost the Roman club $15 million.

However, Lazio captain Alessandro Nesta believes Lazio has what it takes in Jaap Stam.
Nesta: "Stam is good. I actually didn't expect him to be this good."

Rumours from England reveal that Lazio are close to sign Mario Melchiot of Chelsea.

The 24-year old strated his career with Ajax, before joining Chelsea in 1999, wanted by Gianluca Vialli. The London club are ready to sell him for $8,5m.

I still don`t get why we need a central defender when we already have enough of them (defenders).

We are lately been linked with many defenders: Juan, Melchiot and others.

Real Madrid prepare ÂŁ48 m offer for Lazio's Crespo

Italian football
31/10/01

Real Madrid is set to offer Lazio ÂŁ48 million for Argentine striker Hernan Crespo.
The big-spending Spanish club is reportedly preparing an offer to lure Crespo to Madrid amid speculation that Lazio's Azzurri defender Alessandro Nesta is also set to move to Spain.

Having already spent record amounts on Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in the past two seasons, it appears the Madrid club has no limits when it comes to buying the best players in the world.

If this is true, and i know lazio fans love crespo, but the logical thing would be to sell Crespo to R madrid and keep Nesta. With half that money you can get someone like Depo's tristan or somebody else who don't usually start scoring at the 2nd half of the season. Lazio need to gain some points NOW!

But Nesta is different, I think he is in a class of his own and a joy to watch. Please don't let R Madrid :yuck: buy him with money and make him cheap.

More rumors about Crespo

CRESPO

EXCLUSIVE Crespo to go as Lazio slash costs

Wednesday 31st October 2001

Lazio will have to offload four leading players – including striker Hernan Crespo – if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions' League, onefootball.com has learned.

The financially-troubled club are currently in the Serie A relegation zone and crashed out of Europe on Tuesday evening when they lost in Nantes - cutting off a major revenue stream.

Now a highly-placed club insider has revealed that Crespo, Alessandro Nesta, Angelo Peruzzi and Karel Poborsky must be sold in the summer, should results not show a dramatic improvement.

Elimination from the Champions' League and the Uefa Cup has cost Lazio ÂŁ10 million in TV money and sponsorship alone, prompting a shift in market strategy.

The Rome giants showed a deficit of over ÂŁ13 million in the first six months of this year and club president Sergio Cragnotti conceded on Wednesday that the current spend is unsustainable.

"The team must finish in the first four places in Serie A and get back into the Champions' League," he said. "We have the talent to achieve this objective, but if we fail there will be sacrifices."

Nesta now seems virtually certain to join Real Madrid, who offered ÂŁ40 million for him in the close season. Internazionale are also keen on the Lazio skipper, but Cragnotti does not want to sell his prize asset to a Serie A rival.

Poborsky is keen to finish his career in his native Czech Republic and would jump at a transfer, while former Italy goalkeeper Peruzzi has told friends that he may quit football altogether in June.

Sinisa Mihajlovic and Dejan Stankovic are expected to join Fiorentina in the near future for around ÂŁ10 million. The deal was agreed over the summer, but stalled when the Florence side hit financial problems of their own.

Dino Baggio, Lucas Castroman, Rodriguez Cesar and Darko Kovacevic will also be put up for sale when the Italian transfer window opens in January, although Lazio are not in a position to accept offers below what they paid for any of the quartet.

Lazio privately admit that recouping their cash on the four is unlikely, which brings Crespo into the equation. The Argentina striker, top scorer in Serie A last season, now commands a valuation even greater than the ÂŁ35 million Lazio paid Parma for him in 2000.

Lazio are now at their lowest ebb since Cragnotti took charge and police cars headed to Rome airport on Tuesday night in expectation of a demonstration by fans when the squad touched down.

In the event, few bothered to turn up, although the feeling persists in the capital that coach Alberto Zaccheroni faces the axe after just a handful of matches if he cannot guide Lazio into the top half of the table by Christmas.

According to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (usually reliable) this is the list of "outs" from Lazio:

In January:

Dino Baggio
Darko Kovacevic
Guerino Gottardi
Sinisa Mihajlovic

At the end of the season:

Alessandro Nesta
Hernan Crespo
Claudio Piojo Lopez
Ivan De la Pena
Dejan Stankovic
Cesar
Karel Poborsky

Notes: Gottardi is set to join Torino and Mihajolovic is probably going to Fiorentina.Nesta is almost sure to join Real Madrid (though Inter and Juve are interested).Lazio wont sell Lopez unless they get a bid of 50 mil lire (which is same sum they payed to Valencia).Poborsky and De la Pena are at the end of their contracts.Lazio wants to swap Cesar with Cruzeiro's argentinian Juan Pablo Sorin.Crespo interests mainly Juventus but also Real.

Needless to say,Lazio expects to receive a great deal of players from all those deals,so with a right coach, you can still have a scudetto-material team.

Yes, you are right AMOROSO, but above all, we need to have a great coach first of all.

Excluding Nesta, I would agree with the departure of most of the players mentioned above though I am surprised either Fiore or Mendieta are not in the list.

Following his team's disastrous exit from Europe, Lazio chairman Sergio Cragnotti is reported to be eyeing Boca Junior creative Juan Roman Riquelme, a player the Lazio supremo believes could lead the Biancocelesti out of the crisis situation they are stuck in at the moment.

The Argentine championship ends in December and Riquelme will be free to move abroad. Initially it was thought the player was destined to fit the Barca outfit, but the Catalan giants already have all of their non-EU player slots taken and therefore Riquelme would find it hard to move to Spain next season.

Lazio are expected to table an offer in the next days, and if Boca accepts, Riquelme will feature in Serie A action starting January 1st.

:hopefull:

If this happens , I WILL FORGIVE CRAG FOR SELLING VERON , NEDVED AND SALAS!

BRING ROMI TO ROME!

Juventus are lining up a swoop for Lazio’s Gaizka Mendieta according to reports in Italy. The Bianconeri are said to be preparing an offer in a bid to take advantage of Lazio’s Champions’ League exit on Tuesday.

The Turin giants were believed to be targeting Arsenal’s Patrick Vieira but it now seems likely that the Frenchman will in all probability sign for Real Madrid next summer – leaving Mendieta as Juve’s new prime target.

The capital club have already sold Pavel Nedved and Marcelo Salas to Juve this summer, and with their European exit this week their squad is expected to be skimmed in a bid to recuperate lost costs.

The former Valencia midfielder has struggled to settle at the Olimpico and has been a shadow of his former self since his ÂŁ29m move.

Handz OFF Riquelme :fero: :)

btw :sorry:
hopefully not true:
Borussia Dortmund target Peruzzi

Borussia Dortmund are searching for a new goalkeeper. Coach Mathias Sammer is not satisfied with former AC Milan goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, but at the same time does not fully trust Philipp Laux. Earlier Borussia Dortmund have unsuccessfully linked with a move both Rangers Glasgow's Stefan Klos and Real Madrid's Bodo Illgner, who has left football but at present according to German rumours Borussia would be targeting Lazio veteran goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi.

Riquelme may be the solution, but he won't change everything. If we play him the wrong position, we are fu(ked again. We did that to Fiore and Mendieta.

BRING RIQ to Rome Crag !
