On Wednesday 13th of February Greece will host a friendly game against Sweden in Thessaloniki. Rehhagel called 20 players. "New" faces are Christos Patsatzoglou, Sotiris Kirgiakos and Giurkas Seitaridis while Vasilis Lakis, Akis Zikos and Aggelos Basinas were left out. Aris in-from goalkeeper Fanis Katergiannakis also missed out as Rehhagel chose to stick by Nikopolidis and Chalkias. Olympiakos this time has one player in the team, quite an improvement over the zero they had previusly. ;) From the foreign-based players Kostas Konstadinidis of Hertha was not called.

Here are the players:

Goalkeepers:

Antonis Nikopolidis (Panathinaikos)
Kostas Chalkias (Iraklis)

Defenders

Sotiris Kirgiakos (Panathinaikos)
Tasos Katsabis (PAOK)
Nikos Dabizas (Newcastle)
Takis Fyssas (Panathinaikos)
Michalis Kasapis (AEK)
Giourkas Seitaridis (Panathinaikos)

Midfielders

Giorgos Karagounis (Panathinaikos)
Padelis Kafes (PAOK)
Thodoris Zagorakis (AEK)
Christos Patsatzoglou (Olympiakos)
Padelis Konstadinidis (PAOK)
Vasilis Tsartas (AEK)
Giorgos Georgiadis (PAOK)

Strikers

Nikos Liberopoulos (Panathinaikos)
Zisis Vryzas (Perugia)
Demis Nikolaidis (AEK)
Aggelos Charisteas (Aris)
Nikos Machlas (Ajax)

Panathinaikos: 6
PAOK, AEK: 4
Olympiakos, Perugia, Iraklis, Aris, Newcastle, Ajax: 1

Olympiakos may have only one player in the Greek NT but he has one world champion with France and a mundialic Breazilian;)

In our topic now.Sweden is a competitive team and this is a good test for us.Our selection has not generally any surprises. After the lose to Cyprus i hope that such thing won't happen and at 13th February...

Sweden will come here without their best player,Henrik Larsson.

I wonder what striking pairs rehaggel will try? good to see limberopoulos back, Ive always admired his talents........charisteas and deminho? although Ive become a big fan of zizi's and think hed be fantastic for the team as a starter.

and I HOPE Patsatzoglou will play in a central defensive midfield role!!

this is a tough test, sweden is fine tuning for WC so they'll be ruthlessly efficient, they wouldnt want a bad type of loss now......

and kostas Larson has been included in the squad although his wife is expecting a baby, I hope he plays b/c its fast zippy strikers like that that our defence needs to learn to master

Rehhagel has stated clearly that his main choices in attack are Deminho and Charisteas. This would be my line up right now:

_______________Chalkias_______________

Seitaridis___Katsabis___Dabizas_____Fyssas

Georgiadis_____Patsatzoglou___Konstadinidis

________________Tsartas_______________

__________Nikolaidis____Charisteas_______

You can start Kirgiakos over Katsabis though right now Katsabis is in-form and better due to experience. I'd take Fyssas over Kasapis too. :)

By the way, is Amanatidis injured or something? And Giannakopoulos? As much as I dont rate that diver we need a back up for G.X. so without calling Lakis...

_______________Nikopolidis_______________

Seitaridis___Katsabis___Dabizas_____Fyssas

Georgiadis_____Zikos___Konstadinidis

________________Karagounis_______________

__________Nikolaidis____Liberopoulos_______

This starting line up will crush everybody.

Tsartas or Karagounis? For a while now, that has been a big question...But I was thinking, why not play BOTH?

Karagouni runs runs runs during games right? He can control the ball well, and bring it from defence to offence. So why not try him out as a Defensive Mid? Because Tsartas is still the better "playmaker" and should be out 10ari (really in form). What do you guys think? Because I feel at least both should be out there. In a 4-4-2 I would like to see this:

_______________Chalkias

Seitaridis___Kyriakgos___Dabizas___Fyssas

_____________Patsazoglou (although it will most likely be Zagoraki)

Karagounis___________________Konstantinidis

_______________Tsartas

________Charisteas______Demis

I have to agree here. Liberopoulos right now does not deserve a place in the NT let alone the starting line up. Charisteas is better, more in-form and I would also pick Vryzas over him. I dont rate Zikos much. Even Zagorakis is better.
I wouldnt want to decide who to start between Tsartas and Karagounis! However, both of them together is rather risky... Plus, leaving Georgiadis on current form out of the line up is a crime in my opinion Christo. :)

The defence looks great by the way. Especially if Amanatidis finds form and replaces Katsabis. And hopefully Venetidis back to his best instead of Fyssas. :hopefull:

Damn, that German better make a team! :fero:

When a player is a big name everybody wahtcs for him.Evrybody tries to find something bad to him and expect for him more, more things than a player like Giasemakis or Okkas. And this because they play as muchas they can when players like Giovanni plays the 1/4 they can and are in the same and better level...

There is a difference between Karembeu and Giovanni. Karemebeu is trying and running his heart out for the team. I dont doubt Karembeu's effort, all I say is that he is not the superstar he is made to be by the media. He is talentless and although his effort and experience make him ok, in my opinion Olympiakos could find better players for this kind of money, even within Greece.

As for Giovanni, he doesn't care and he doesn't play any good. Sorry, this is a fact. Giovanni is walking (when he isnt injured) and only time he shows off as a great player is against the likes of Agios Nikolaos in the cup.

And let's not go into Bermudez and Zetteberg. Big names dont make big teams, and in my opinion Olympiakos would be a much better team had they choose to invest in players more hungry for glory than "star" players from Belgium or Brazilian former stars on the downhill.

And for god's sake, get a decent coach. What is Kokkalis trying to prove with Lemonis? He is young, and lets say "talented" but he has neither the ability or the "guts" to run a team like Olympiakos... And this shows.

Amoroso i disagree with you let Lemonis stay with Olympiakos i think he is a great coach  . He is the best coach in Greece:rolleyes: do you want to see Olympiakos destroyed?
LEMONIS mia zoi sto limani etsi to theloume:D .
To noima to epiases ? alios na sto po ego :D .

I agree with you Amo about Giovanni,Zetterberg and Lemonis. He should go.Fans give him and his team last chance in the match against PAOK.But any i believe we must look for a best and more experienced coach.

I disagree with you over Karembeu. How can you say him talentless??His job is WORKER and that's how he plays. We didn't get him for organising but for the dirt work.

As for Bermudez you must be sure that he is a real value. He is a bit slow but, damn and Henriksen is slow but we praise him!!The problem is that everyone ta rixane ston Bermudez and they finished him.Between them and Lemonis...

Henriksen might be slow but he doesnt put a foot wrong and his anticipation is frightening good. We're talking class here.

Bermudez was a very good player when he came, but being kept on the bench by the likes of Anatolakis and Kostoulas... come on. And to be fair, while he played, although he looked strong and good on the air, his lack of speed and general insecurity was obvius... at least the few times I saw him.
