It's quite nasty this time around. I assume it is because you have two parties in/connected to the government that each have a lot to lose...

Turkish MFA refused to hoist cross on Akhtamar Church

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Turkish Foreign Ministry has rejected the proposal of Patriarch of Constantinople Mesrob Mutafyan to hoist a cross on the Holy Cross Church on Akhtamar island. The request, which was initially addressed to the Minister of Culture and Tourism, was later on handed to the Foreign Ministry, which announced its decision on the issue.

“There is not a cross even at Hagia Sofia Temple, since it’s a museum. The Church on Akhtamar will also function as a museum and hoisting a cross on its dome would be a wrong step,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said, Marmara Istanbul-based newspaper reports.

Wooow, why I'm not surprised hm...??? Let me think, is that maybe because I know for sure that mongol barbarians from Altay will never be more then barbarians, even if they changed there name, faking history etc. Better if I will stopp here...

ARMENIA, IRAN AGREE TO CONSTRUCT POWER PLANT

Arminfo
11 Apr 07

Yerevan, 11 April: Armenia and Iran have signed an agreement on the
construction of a new hydroelectric power plant on the River Araks
[Araz, near Armenia's Meghri town bordering Iran]. Deputy Energy
Minister Areg Galstyan said this today at the American University
of Armenia.

Galstyan said that the new plant's capacity would be 140 MW with annual
production of 850m KW/h. That will be a serious project implemented
in the region, he stressed.

A scheme of funding the project is now being discussed. The project
costs about 150m dollars. It is expected that Iran will allocate the
sum as a credit in exchange of future supplies of Armenian energy.

It is expected that the construction of the plant will begin this year.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger

Proclamation

Between the years 1915 and 1923, during the chaos of World War I, over one million Armenian men, women and children living within the Ottoman Empire’s borders were killed; forcing hundreds of thousands of Armenians to flee to foreign countries after being stripped of their possessions, their identities and their homeland.

Scores fled to the United States, and California was fortunate to become home to one of the largest populations of Armenians outside the Republic of Armenia. Many of California’s Armenian-American families are the descendants of these courageous genocide survivors, whose hope for a life independent [of] war and violence was realized on our soil. Like their family members before them, the Armenian-American community bravely flourished and contributed much to our state and nation.

Documented as the first instance of genocide in the twentieth century, the Armenian Genocide remains unacknowledged to this day. I strongly echo the sentiments that all nations must examine their own painful histories, as the denial of genocide further wounds a nation’s ability to heal. Though over ninety years have passed since these mass killings took place, present day atrocities resonate throughout the world. It is our responsibility to recognize the brutal slayings of so many innocents, remembering their suffering and vowing to help prevent future genocides.

I join California’s Armenian-American communities and all Armenians worldwide in remembering those who were killed and persecuted during the Armenian Genocide, and urge people throughout the world to never forget these horrific crimes against humanity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim the week of April 22nd – April 29th, 2007 as “Days of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide.”

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have here unto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed to this 6th day of April 2007.

Yeah, Stalin's cleansing of the Ukrainians was a crime of incredible proportions, and as the signature says, not very known.

“April 24” square opened in French town Clichy la Garenne

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ On April 15 Gilles Catoire, Mayor Clichy la Garenne French town, and Armenia’s Ambassador to France Eduard Nalbandian in the center of the town opened the ”April 24, 1915” square, dedicated to victims of the Armenian Genocide in 1915. Representatives of O-de-Sen department authorities, leaders of Armenian organizations in France and residents of the town participated in the solemn ceremony. Expressing gratitude to the authorities of Clichy la Garenne for opening the square, Armenia’s Ambassador to France Eduard Nalbandian noted, memory of the Armenian Genocide victims is not only a tribute and solidarity, but also a call to the whole humanity to display vigilance and constantly lead a struggle against repetition of such outrages. “Denial of the Armenian Genocide and distortion of history became the continuation of this crime against humanity,” the Armenian diplomat stressed.

The same day in the museum of town’s veterans opened an exhibition titled “1915-2005: The First Genocide of the 20th Century”, the RA MFA Press Office reports.

YEREVAN (YERKIR) - “The presence of the Russian frontier troops in Armenia is out of question, said lieutenant general Sergey Bondarev, the commander of the frontier department of the RF Federal Security Service in Armenia. The Russian frontier troops are stabilizing the atmosphere at the Armenian-Turkish border, according to him.

“During 15 years Russian frontier guards ensure security of Armenia’s 335-km border with Turkey. Some 100 trespassers were detained in the initial quarter of the current year. Over 450 were detained in 2006,” he said.

He also said Russian frontier guards have established contacts with Turkish troops and this cooperation allowed to reduce the number of incidents and border violations, Gazeta.ru reports.

A khachkar in memory of Nansen and victims of Armenian Genocide to be installed in Norway

PanARMENIAN.Net/ On April 21 a khachkar monument will be placed in Bergen, Norway, dedicated to Fridtjof Nansen, Norwegian polar explorer, scientist, diplomat and humanist, Nobel Peace Prize in 1922, and the 1915 Armenian Genocide victims. Independent French journalist Jean Eckiyan told the PanARMENIAN.Net corespondent, in his book “Armenia and the Near East” published in 1923, Fridtjof Nansen one wrote, “The massacres that started in 1915 have nothing to compare with the history of mankind. The massacres by Abdul Hamid are minor in comparison to what today's Turks have done. Woe to the Armenians, that they were ever drawn into European politics! It would have been better for them if the name of Armenia had never been uttered by any European diplomatist.” The initiative of placing the khachkar comes from the Armenian Society of Kaunas, a District in Lithuania.

Hillary Clinton expressed her support for Armenian Genocide Resolution

19.04.2007 16:13

YEREVAN (YERKIR) - Senator Harry Reid and U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton expressed their support for the H. Res. 106, which recognizes the Armenian Genocide, Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has said.

“We’re very gratified that two prominent national leaders – Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid - agreed today to join with a growing number of their Senate colleagues in supporting the passage of the Armenian Genocide Resolution.

As the growth in cosponsors demonstrates, this anti-genocide measure clearly enjoys the support of a broad, bipartisan majority in both houses of Congress,” ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian stated.

Last week another presidential candidate Senator Barak Obama stated it necessary and important to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Ohio became 40th state to recognize Armenian Genocide

20.04.2007 18:10

YEREVAN (YERKIR) - On April 17, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland signed an order on recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Ohio became the 40th U.S. state to recognize the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) reported.

The powerfully worded proclamation calls on “Ohioans to honor those who died in the Armenian Genocide, conceived and carried out by the Ottoman Empire, by recognizing their suffering resulting from the deportation of nearly 2 million Armenians.” It also underlines the importance for collective responsibility to focus the world’s attention on human rights abuses, ethnic cleansing, and genocide.

Commenting on signing the order, Strickland stated, “We have designated April 24 as the Ohio Day of Remembrance for those who suffered under the Armenian Genocide 92 years ago. I join Ohioans in remembering the victims and continuing our commitment to justice and human dignity across the world.”
