Arkadi Gaidamak named Dr. Vladimir Shklar as the club's new chairman yesterday.

A sports physician, Shklar immigrated to Israel from Leningrad in 1990. In the past few years, he has been the director of the Jersualem Municipality's Sports Department, and chair of the Israel Fencing Association.

Shklar will take over as chairman on December 1. He declined to comment on his plans for the club, saying he is currently still a municipality employee. Sources close to Betar described Shklar's appointment as a "strategic move" saying they hoped a new training ground for the club would be approved shortly.

Meanwhile, general manager Luis Fernandez returned to Jerusalem yesterday and spoke with players at the club's Bayit Vegan training ground. Fernandez said that Ton Caanen and Guy Azuri would continue to coach the team, but a senior source at Betar said Fernandez wanted to bring in his own people, and that Caanen was on his way out.(Haaretz)

If Fernandez wants a new coach, then he should do it now, because I don't want the players to go through turmoil by not knowing who there coach is.

Betar chain-of-command

Chairman: Dr. Vladimir Shklar

Head of the fencing association, eh? Not forgetting our new fitness coach Eric Blondel is a former world kickboxing champion, looks like Fernandez is really building a fighting team starting with the staff...

Smart move by beitar, because of the guy's connections. I think Gaidmak should try to form a TRIADE like it works with Juventus. He needs the Transfer Guru which could very well be Fernandes, the financial expert which he will probably have a perfect guy for, and the figurehead, which should be either Ochana back in, Malmilian or simply Tartiak or Shmulik Levi...
