Most overrated/underrated free kick taker in Europe

Overrated: Has to be Roberto Carlos. Only knows how to thump them, has no disguise whatsoever and 90 per cent of the time it either flies way over or hits the wall. Of those he scores, that free kick he took against France ranks as one of his best, but also one of the most overrated. Another contender is Del Piero - he used to be very accurate just outside the area but over the last few years he's misplaced a million more dead balls than he's scored.

Underrated: Pierre van Hooijdonk. I never knew this man could take free kicks until I downloaded some of his videos in this forum.. and boy can he take them. They seem to curl crazily and change directions 2 or 3 times over its course.. simply amazing. Deadly accurate too, might I add. Other contenders are Juninho Pernambucano (Lyon) and Assuncao (Betis). I wouldn't put the usual Beckhams, Recobas and Mihaijlovics in here because they're known terrors of the dead ball.

Anymore you guys can think of?

Pierre van Hooijdonk is an underrated free-kick taker due to his poor skill as striker though his FK skill is one of the best. His freekick curve accuracy is probably the best I've seen and even better than Becks. He once become one of Dutch top scorers by scoring mostly on FK.

I'd say Ronaldo is also an underrated free-kick taker as he rarely shows his skill. But he actually knows how to score with it.

i honestly dont think carlos is over rated as a FK taker, i dont think there is anyone out there who would consider him the best and every football fan knows 9 times out of 10 it is going through the clouds or at the wall.

for under rated, i think its the jap who plays for regina, i saw a clip of him scoring a few really good ones and had never heard of his name before

(since his FK vs WB i think everyone knows how good juninho is at FK's.)

That's Nakamura.. and yes he is very underrated, not only in free kicks but geenrally as a footballer. The La Liga is wising up though and are clamouring for his services as we speak.

hey quaresma, this is off topic but please try to refrain from the term "jap" or "japs" as it is a racialy duragotory term...

Although, I don't think he meant it like that, just used it as an abbreviation to Japanese; please refrain from using the word "jap" as it may come across as offensive to fellow Japanese members.

Back to the topic now. Nakamura is a very good free-kick specialist. I've seen many clips and some games with him and he definitely has a knack for scoring goals off free-kicks.

I dont get how people can say Pi-air Van Hooydonk.
He's one of the best, if not THE best, free-kick takers from the past ten years.
Everyone knows that. :)

Under-rated: Ugur Yildirim, Thierry Henry, Jörg Böhme

Over-rated: Becks, Nico Kovac, Riquelme

Don't you know Brazilian player Marcelinho Carioca who played for Valencia (and Japanese team)??

His free kick is great.

Unfortunately he couldn't do well in Spain but in Brazil he is called an angel.
