Well there is 10 days to go so I thought start the thread.

This is has to be a must win game not just because it CL or because we are playing Bayern at home but also because both their inspirational captain and best player Van Bommel (who was a menace for us with PSV 2 seasons ago) will be ruled out for this match. Kahn recently received a 1 match ban for attacking a UEFA doctor. So it is imperative we get the needed result.

Nesta should be able to partner Bonera by then, were as I'm guessing Serghino seems doubtful as no word on him of yet. A full strength side but with the grueling Italy-Scotland tie and Roma fixture two days before a few of our players like Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini and Bonera might be tired. So it will be interesting to see what Ancellotti will do.

We could be the first team since Juventus to reach a fourth successive CL semi-final and I think we are favourites to do so. Along with Kaka and co. we still have a excellent squad which includes 10 World Cup winners, and plethora of past CL winners.

Regardless of what anyone says Milan is built and bred for this competition and since it's likely to be Maldini's last season I can only think what better way than to aloft the CL tropy in Athens were he and so many Milanista's have fond memories of.

I really believe we have what it takes to beat Bayern. And of course they are not to be underestimated. But the thing that worries me the most with this encounter is that the second leg is played away. See Barca last year or Deportivo three years ago to understand why :moan:

I had a nap this afternoon and had a dream of a game being played, I looked at the time and 20 minutes had passed and a corner was being taken and as I looked a tall unmarked defender headed a goal and ran straight back to the middle with his team.
I looked at the score sheet and it said 2-2 and time was 15 min counting down, it was time remaining!
I started getting stressed and saw the team that scored was defending well against a siege and I zoomed to tv view and saw it was Sheva and Rui Costa combining centrally and trying individually from the right and left but finally the game ended without any decent chance and I woke up with a sense of finality that I couldn't shake off.

It felt like it was the 2nd leg but we were the home team and went out on away goals and the opposing team was german.

Not to be picky, but if we qualify, it would be three successive seasons in which we've reached the Semi Finals, not four.

02/03 - Champions
03/04 - Quarter Final
04/05 - Runner Up
05/06 - Semi Final
06/07 - ??????????

If I'm not mistaken Bayern are no great shakes either this season. We have a player like Kaka also.

I honestly don't know what to think about this game. Bayern are nothing special, but then neither are we. It is really all down to finishing chances as the rest of our game is strong.

Who are we looking to lineup in defense? That could be key given our turnstile defense...Maldini out, Kaladze in, Nesta out, fill in blank out.....:(

So... Kahn & Van Bommel are "only" 1 game banned?

Theoratically we should win this easily, though in the past few months nothing is predictable and normal (but then when was something predictable :/) :(

Ancelotti has to face Hitzfeld's tactics. I hope he doesn't screw it up, else he really doesn't belong anymore to Milan. I have thought about it, and Bayern are certainly capable to win, but then we also have a chance. This game doesn't have a favourite, so I'll be curious who wins at last.

Though, Forza Milan per sempre :)

You're right. :D

In any case still a good effort if you look at the last 4-5 seasons in CL. If it wasn't for our inability to hold 3 goal leads and some refereeing decisions going our way we could of had 3-4 CL trophies. Football can be can be a fickle game and it just proves this year is as good as any to win it.

The only fact I hate is playing first at SanSiro!!

Nevertheless, I believe we can win it, but mostly we need Carlo to have the guts to be aggressive, we should play 2 infront Kaka' home and away, and we should think of scoring the whole 180 mins!!

If we managed to get Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaladze and Nesta back in shape this week, we'll qualify!!

FORZA MILAN!!!!

In Pippo Inzaghi shall we trust. A 3 - 0 home win with Pippo X 2 and Kaká scoring.
Or in the real world, just keep a clean sheet. Please.

Yeah I don't even know which striker to field now, with the exception of ronnie they are all equally worthless at the moment.
I would go for xmas tree with gilardino up front, since even though Oli has more mobility he has not done anything as a sole striker.

And xmas tree is very good for the concorde serginho, who is a must in this season which in the CL we are attackers free. Ricardinho can potentially take us all the way, but this is a very unlikely scenario

regardless, I hope we take the bavarians out of the cup. They played great against inter, they will not be easy, and I think they would be slight favorites with all their players. We MUST make the most of the Van Bommel absence

The X'mas tree formation including Gourcuff will be fine otherwise it will be a bad formation.
I would play with:

Dida
Oddo-Bonera-Maldini-Jank
Gattuso-Pirlo-Ambro
Kaka
Oli-Pippo

When we are attacking Oddo and Jank should come forward and Gattuso/Ambro should cover the space left behind. So we would attack like:

-----------Pirlo
Oddo ---- Kaka ---- Jank
-----Oli --------Pippo

Milan have drawn Bayern Munich for the second year running in the Champions League. Last season it was in the round of the last sixteen and this time around they meet in the quarter-finals. The German side won the competition in 2001 and defeat Inter in the group stages this year. Bayern went on to dominate their group without losing a game:

With Ottmar Hitzfeld taking over from Felix Magath as coach, Bayern knocked Real Madrid out in the last round, losing the first leg 3-2 but winning the return 2-1 to go through on the away goals rule. It has been a difficult domestic season for Bayern, with the team exiting the German Cup and falling off the pace at the top of the Bundesliga. They have therefore put their energies into Europe and have a rich tradition in the competition which they have won on four occasions. Their top scorer in Europe is Claudio Pizarro, with four goals from eight appearances but Roy Makaay is also a danger.

Milan have met Bayern on four occasions in European competition and the first three times Milan went on to win the Cup. Last season's encounter came in the round of the last 16 and Milan drew 1-1 in Germany and won the return 4-1 at the San Siro, with Pippo Inzaghi scoring a hat-trick. They also met in the group stages in 2002-03, with Inzaghi again scoring twice in a 2-1 win in Munich and once in the return which was won by the same score. Milan then went on to win the competition against Juventus in Manchester.

The sides have met once in the Cup Winners Cup, in 1967-68 which the Rossoneri won 2-0 in the first leg and drew 0-0 in the return in Germany. The Rossoneri went on to win the Cup 2-0 against Hamburg in the final where Hamrin scored twice. The Champions Cup meeting was in 1989-90 and Marco Van Basten scored the only goal in the first leg while Milan came through 2-1 in the away return after extra time. The team went on to win the final 1-0 against Benfica in Vienna.

I'm pretty sure Pippo scored twice in the 2nd leg last season :pp

Back on the match, we have to capitalize on Kahn and van Bommel's suspension in the first leg to take at least a 2 goal advantage to Munich. A pity Kaladze is still out injured, cause he played extremely well alongside Nesta in the same fixture last year

what is going on???
about 27 hours left until the big game and only 2 pages of posts!!!
common people wake up

i am angry that espn will not show this live but im going to have to pay $10 and watch it on a uefa stream.

thank god for spring break and i can this game and roma- manchester live unlike next week when ill watch them on recording.

i think we can grind out a 1-0 win i mean common no khan and van bommel and we are playing at home if we dont win we SIMPLY don't deserve to still be playing in this competition.
