Manchester United have released the following statement regarding David Beckham and Barcelona:

"Manchester United confirms that club officials have met Joan Laporta, the leading candidate for the Presidency of Barcelona. These meetings have resulted in an offer being made for the transfer of David Beckham to Barcelona.

"This offer is subject to a number of conditions and critically to both Mr Laporta being elected President on Sunday 15 June and Barcelona subsequently reaching agreement with David Beckham on his personal contract.

"Manchester United confirms that in the event that all of the conditions are fulfilled then the offer would be acceptable."

This is a farce. Barca is 150-200 million Euros in debt and we don't have a 'cooperative' government to bail the club out.

Laporta is an opportunistic and incompetent clown of the worst kind, he hasn't even seen the books and now he's signed a pre-contract with Man Utd which he will have to fulfill because it'll mean money out of his own pocket if he doesn't bankrupt Barca to sign Beckham. Beckham isn't even at all good enough, being compared to Cruyff - give me a break, he's more Richard Dutruel than Johan Cruyff.

A DARK AND SHAMEFUL DAY.

Some naive fans will celebrate. Me, I'm in tears. Barcelona has lost all dignity and respect. It is a farce, high ****ing farce.
I dont think it is a farce...

I think it shows something we haven't seen since the early ninetees in Barca. It shows courage and ambition. Noone can deny the qualities of Beckham. If we keep Kluivert, then I think we can really put Beckhams crosses to use.

And besides, we need a matchwinner, and that's what Beckham is.

Just a note...

Of course this is depending on that Laporta has a sound financial plan for the funding.

This is a proud day for Barca. Finally Barca are stepping out of the shadows behind Real Madrid. Barca would go from being second rate to first class in many eyes. It will breathe new air into the club.

Financially Barca will gain very much from this. Barca will be THE club on everyone's lips. How much this is worth from a marketing point of view is only something we can speculate in but Beckham is the strongest brand in the football world. Sure, Zidane and Ronaldo were huge signings for Real but of this becomes reality it would be twice as big. Especially since nobody expected United to ever sell their symbol.

On the field Beckham will be a huge success in Spain in my opionion. As long as you have Kluivert and Luis Enrique on the end of those crosses Barca will be a very hard team to beat.

What makes you think signing Beckham means courage and ambition? It means Laporta is so hard-up for the job that he's willing to hound Nunez out of office for financial mismanagement and then tries get himself elected even if it means bankrupting the club. It means Laporta thinks the socios are all fools to be taken for a ride; remember the name because the man is the devil, he will finish what Gaspart started and reduce the club to a joke, to nothing.

I guess this is a matter of views. You take the pessimistic view, and I choose to take the optimistic view.

I choose to believe that this can be the beginning and not the end...

if only Laporta presented an acceptable plan to us id be celebrating this day...but the promises he makes...its hard to believe how hes going to accomplish them...otherwise ive got nothing against him...

Politician, (ironic handle given the circumstances ;) )

You are 100% right on the money. This is a sad day for Barca, and sadder for the sport.

I won't say it's a bad business decision to buy Beckham. Tee shirt sales and advertising means $ which Barca needs. But, the traditional way of "playing" your way to respect - well this deal is a kick in the teeth to that notion.

It's sad to see some Barca fans still seeing this in terms of stepping out of REAL MADRID'S shadow. Barca is willing to betray itself to do that? Shameful.

At least when REAL stole Figo, they did it for the right reasons, to get an excellent player.

Beckham is one of the few players that can pay off his transfer fee and wages without stepping onto the field. This could be the buy that drags Barça out of the financial mire. He pays for himself even if he doesn't pay. Just remember that before you barrack him at the Nou Camp.

The great french phylosopher Voltaire said that optimist ppl are the ones that insist everything is ok when this are going bad.

beckham is cheaper than mendieta, it will be very good to bring him at barcelona, and if finally can not comes althought laporta is the president at least we have fought for a good player and show that we can fight for others good players against big teams and not only to be watching the news looking if finaly rm gets another star. is right that beckham is like jordan in football, there are a lot of persons and children that have a jordan shirt but if you ask they if they care about bulls or wizards, they don't, they don't care about the titles or position, so beckham is like jordan in this point, but also he is good in scoring free kicks and we need it.

MU said the transfer is finalised but Beckham agents said sth strange:
David Beckham's representatives SFX have released the following
statement regarding United's agreement to sell Becks to
Barcelona, dependant on certain conditions:

"David is very disappointed and surprised to learn of this
statement and feels that he has been used as a political pawn in
the Barcelona presidential elections.

"David's advisors have no plans to meet Mr Laporta or his
representatives."

Laporta said he want first talk with MU representative and then with player, that are UEFA rules. But on the other hand if he fail to agree personal condition before sunday election he could even win but then he can say that Beckham don't want to come to Barca and all fault will go on Beck shoulder. So he should finalised deal before Sunday. Do you think its posible???
Its strange because Sandro Rosell was also with London to talk with SFX agents...

acording to fifa laporta has make the right that is to talk first with the team and not behind him, manchester united has said that he will sell beckham to barça if laporta wins and if beckhs arrive an agrement with barça.

are you sure?
If one takes into account the £30m of merchandising that Man Utd sells every year on the back of Beckham's name, there is no doubt.

I don't think that he will get as much attention and media exposure if he moves to Barcelona, compared to what he gets when playing in the highest profile club of his own country. This could lead to a decrease in the value of his name as a brand.

That's a guess,it might happen but the same would hapen if he went to Milan

Only going to RM would increase the public's attention and hype around Beckham at the current time comparing it with what he takes in Man U

But i believe whether he goes it will be a lot more than huge, since it's the first time he goes out of his country and moving out of Man U
