says it all ,.Incredible .Even when we have spent large amounts of money in recent times ,combining houllier, evans and benitez over a 10 year period is still less than 3 years of the russian .

i dunno, i kinda liken chelsea to that really nice rich guy, albeit very succesfull in his trade/industry, but who goes out and buys all kinds of shit for girls he fancies. then the chicks go out and bang the penniless bad boys. :D

This is an interesting page with all our transfers since Shankly.

Bob Paisley probably got more bang for his buck concerning transfers then any other manager in the history of the game. Hodgson was probably his only major mistake and even players like Sheedy and Oggy who didn't make it here became top players elsewhere.

The interesting thing is that half the money Liverpool spend in their history was under Houllier(one of my fav coaches because of 94 French team ;) ). Wow the wonders Rafa has done with so little cash still he needs a top stricker so we can add at least 10 million pounds this summer.

Did you count inflation and other economical tricks as well, or do you talk crap, as always?

The transfer market when Houllier was manager was far more inflated than it is since Abramovich bought his freedom.

So, that crap you speak of...

which is correct ,the last 10 years is recent history and when clubs were spending huge unsustainable money ,bigger wages and even longer contracts, leeds as a prime example.

Houllier managed to blow through a ÂŁ125mln stash of cash? That's I-N-S-A-N-E!

why did we give houllier all that money ,he did get nearly half back in sales and it was over a period of 6 years .

yeah 125 over 6 seasons equate to about ÂŁ20m a season :eekani: which is still a lot, but he did revitalise the team and modernise the club and recoup around ÂŁ70m from sales.

20 million should be reasonable for a club the size of liverpool.Houllier should have done more with it .Mind you it still doesn't put us with the big boys ,its not like we could ever compete with united who spent over 20 million on at least 3 players ,rio ,rooney and veron.

yeah 20m is a good base, i mean a lot of european clubs use about 30m euro's so we are good in that department, the problem is spending a huge amount on one player, as that eats up the transfer kitty. But even in our pomp under Paisley we were never massive spenders, united, spurs always have always payed bigger, we've always had the hallmark of buying intelligently either youth or talented unproven potential. :)

Few European clubs spend ÂŁ20mln each and every summer, let alone ÂŁ30.

Now, granted, I'm not up on English football, but I genuinly struggle to think of any signings Houllier made. There was Hyppia, but unless I'm mistaken, he was no more than 3 or 4 million? And Dudek I remember as well. But considering the spine was there already--Carragher, Owen, Gerrard, Fowler--I find it flabbergasting that he was able to burn that amount of cash.

Diouf for 11m? Heskey for 11m, Cisse for 14m were some of Houlliers more famous buys.

heskey wasn't failure of cisse proportions ,he had a great first season and was a good foil for michael owen for a few years.Diouf what a horrendous price tag.

it quite rightly in the end got houllier the sack ,but then it didn't stop him getting another great job at lyon:howler:
