LOL

Skysports.com understands that Liverpool have succeeded in hijacking Everton's move for Valencia star Mohamed Sissoko.

The Mali international midfielder had seemed poised to join Everton after The Toffees had thrashed out a €7.4 million deal with their Spanish counterparts.

Sissoko was preparing to fly to Goodison Park to put the finishing touches to the deal, but, as had been predicted in some quarters, Liverpool have sneaked in and trumped their Merseyside rivals with a counter-offer.

Rafa Benitez is a confirmed admirer of the 20-year-old having signed him for Valencia two years' ago from Auxerre.

The Reds boss submitted an €8 million offer for the African and Sissoko has decided that a move to Anfield is more appealing.

His agent Jose Segui confirmed the news, telling skysports.com: "Valencia have taken the decision (to sell to Liverpool) and Momo is happier now."

Sissoko is expected to sign a four-year contract with Liverpool and should arrive in England early next week for a medical.

I FEEL FOR EVERTON

Is this guy worth the money? The last time we took a bluenose player he ended up as Mr. worst haircut in the world. :rollani:

Liverpool are taking all kind of shit at the moment, but you guys should trust Beneathus
Yeah we're trying to immitate you guys, unfortunately your guys are all under contract. ;)

I trust Rafa of course. But nobody's perfect, Josemi wasn't a good buy for example and you can't convince me he was worth it. The Sissoko fee is quite serious, I hope Rafa understands the implications of it. BTW anyone else got the feeling we're about to make a mega transfer? Gerrard was unhappy because he thought we weren't getting any stronger, so if something settled his mind it has to be something big....

Rooney!!! or Ronaldinho!

ok, we don't have enough muscle YET to pull off those kind of deals, but what happened to Joe Cole and SWP coming to Anfield? Man, those 2 and 1 CD and we nicely set to land our 19th.

You guys should make up your mind, is he great or is he crap?

when I saw him play last season at Valencia, he was crap, but almost all Valencia players were crap, under Ranieir. So maybe he can improve. Beasides Benitez should know more about him than us. I trust Benitez.

he's only 20 years of age obviously benitez knows all about and must see great potential in him for the future at the moment he won't get into the team but we can develop him to replace hamman who won't be around forever .

Guys,

You've just made a very good signing. I've seen him play at Valencia last season and he was solid considering he battled a serious knee injury. His weakness is giving the ball away too cheaply but that will be eradicated with experience. Ranieri had the confidence of the squad thrown out of the window so we shouldn't judge Sissoko based on those 10-12 appearences he made.

He's a very good prospect who is versatile, he can plat at RB as well as DM.

Rafa knows what he is doing, and after all, it was Rafa who initially signed him for Valencia.

Hi guys..

Quite disappointed by the signing.. I also saw Sissoko last season a lot with Valencia.. and if anything.. he was the weakest link in a team playing with low morale.. he's a young Salif Diao.. with the dangly legs and the lost look on his face.. poor was the best I could say about him.. and why should we be considering someone battling with a serious knee injury in the first place??! I'd rather go for Welsh to make the odd appearance..

What disappoints me most is we're perfectly OK to spend £5.5m on Sissoko (a 20 yr old who might ot might not make it) yet are stalling and might cancel the Figo deal over £2m when we are nearly sure of the quality we will get for at least a year (maybe 2).. Weren't Bayern ready to let go of Hargreaves for £2.5m? So this guy is twice the player Hargreaves is? doubt it.. some were saying he's not gonna figure much in the 1st team.. then why pay £5.5m in him? Zenden got some stick over the move and that he'd only be a squad player.. but he came on a FREE.. Stelios (had he joined) would have joined for £1m!!.. this guy is 5 times that!

Everyone makes mistakes.. this, I sadly believe, is one!

Raanan.. Well besided Figo.. I don't expect a MEGA deal to happen.. but I would expect us to make 2 more signings.. most probably a central defender (Milito is still rejecting a new contract at Zaragoza) and a striker (hopefully we get Kuyt)..

And what about the season before last where he had an excellent season?

Besides it's 3.5 million with the other 1.5 dependant on success.

I really want the Figo deal wrapped up. He's past his prime but I think he has something to offer to us, even though I hated his guts before. You can't help but say he's a very good player.

Haven't seen Sissoko before so I can't comment but I'm guessing he plays DM? That pretty much makes 4 inthe middle for us (Gerrard, Alonso, Hamann, Sissoko, assuming Diao leaves). Hopefully he can turn into a Hamann type with pace and better offensive skills :)

Hi CR..

The season before that.. Sissoko was brought in to fill gaps when Rafa's first team where doing most of the work.. Baraja and Albelda owned the middle of midfield.. last season.. Ranieri and then the other guy had to rely more on Sissoko due to injuries and loss of form.. and stuborness! and it back fired as he was not that much at all.. he gave the ball away way too easily (Emile Heskey style)..

I just feel we're paying far more than what he's worth.. and for a player who would not be a first team player.. when we have areas with major improvement needs..

That's making the assumption that we aren't also going to be strengthening other areas.

Sissoko is a very good player but like Reina he has suffered from having a bad game against Barcelona. Everyone now assumes thats how he plays all the time.

From what I've heard Sissoko's meant to be promising, and Benitez will know him well. Bit cheeky you knicking him off Everton like that, though..

I don't know much about him, though, but I hope for you that he's defensively minded, cos I think a lot of peope fail to see how important Hamann and Biscan were for you last season. Gerrand and Xabi Alonso on their own sounds good on paper but in practice it's not balanced enough, and you desperately need someone else there. You've let go of Biscan while Hamann's not getting any younger, so you really need someone else.

Unrelated, but if you manage to flog Nunez off to Celta (and maybe get some money) your management deserve a pay rise.

8 million WTF!!!!!!!!! HOPE is NOT true, I have seen him play alot of times at Valencia and he is NOTHING special.
what are you on? this is a good signing, he is quality. I've seen him play under benetiz several time at the mestalla and he was wicked. Like someone said, the whole vcf team played crap last season, so you can't judge him on that.

This guy has skill and is worth more than 5million.

i'm disappointed to see him leave VCF, but then VCF were never good at holding on to people.

At least he has gone liverpool though which will make VCF fans feel a bit better. (I hope!)

Great signing imo. This guy is basically a young Patrick Viera, their builds and playing style are scarily similar.

Whenever i've seen the guy play i've been impressed. He's an extremely direct player who does a lot of surging runs from midfield, perfectly made for the premiership. He also has good dribbling ablility and is able to play himself out of trouble, I can see him getting a decent amount of goals aswell.

Of course he isn't perfect yet, he's only 20 you have to remember. But if you look at you're midfielders now. You've got Xabi Alonso and Gerrard to start, the experienced guy in Hamaan and the young guy in Sissoko (if he signs of course).

These are the kind of signings which will gradually move Liverpool forward.

BOSS: SISSOKO WILL IMPROVE SQUAD
Paul Eaton 09 July 2005
Rafael Benitez is confident Mali midfielder Mohamed Sissoko will bring more quality to his Liverpool squad.
Sissoko still needs to complete a medical before finalising his move to Anfield and becoming the latest of Benitez's summer signings.

The Liverpool boss said: "He's a young central midfielder who plays a high energy game with a high tempo. He's young, he's not bad on the ball and he will improve the balance of our team.

"He's had two good years with Valencia where he has won trophies. I know him well and he's a very good player."

Benitez also admitted the Reds are waiting to hear whether they'll be able to bring Luis Figo to Anfield.

He said: "At the moment all we can do is wait. We have some possibilities and Figo is one of them. We'll have to wait and see.

"I'm happy with the squad we have at the moment but we're still trying to bring in two or three more players."

Benitez saw his side secure their first victory of pre-season when they defeated League Two outfit Wrexham 4-3 in a thriller at the Racecourse.

Milan Baros and Fernando Morientes both bagged a brace as the Reds warmed up for Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against TNS.

Benitez said: "It was a good game for the fans with seven goals being scored. I'm not concerned that we conceded three because it's still very early in our preparations and it was a very hot day.

"I am sure when we play on Wednesday evening that we will be much better. It could be good that we have a competitive match next midweek and it could stand us in good stead for the rest of the season."
Well no point moaning now it's more a less official, he could prove to be a good squad player.

Couple more signings then I'd say that's us done, my guess would be Figo and Milito. Pretty dissapointed tbh, thought we'd be signing a bit more quality.
