Blackburn Rovers have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Liverpool's unsettled striker, Robbie Fowler.
Assistant manager Tony Parkes said the Ewood Park club would like to sign the England forward, who played under Rovers boss Graeme Souness during his time at Anfield, but only at the right price.

"We are always interested in good players. He'd cost a lot of money but Blackburn would be interested in Robbie Fowler," Parkes told Sky Sports News.

Blackburn have surprised a lot of clubs and a lot of players with the players we've brought to the club

"I don't think we've gone too far down the road - we've shown a bit of interest.

"That may be going to increase a little bit more now Leeds are interested.

"I don't think it's so much of a pipe dream, but if they want ÂŁ15m or ÂŁ18m for him it is.

"Blackburn have surprised a lot of clubs and a lot of players with the players we've brought to the club."

Leeds are heading the chase for Fowler - with Italian giants Lazio also believed to be waiting in the wings.

But Liverpool are unlikely to let Fowler go without a struggle, despite his inability to claim a regular first-team place under Liverpool's squad rotation system.

The Anfield club is set to initiate new contract talks with Fowler, whose current deal ends in 18 months.

As the transfer speculation mounts, assistant manager Phil Thompson has said: "Contract talks are imminent. I hope Robbie wants to stay.

"There may be rumours about a bid, but as far as I'm aware, we haven't received any. I think and I hope that Robbie wants to stay at Liverpool."

Leeds have long been linked with Fowler as manager David O'Leary still insists he needs to strengthen his squad.

Fowler has only had limited opportunities this season, and Liverpool may take the decision to sell him rather than risk a Steve McManaman-style Bosman free transfer departure.

Fowler's future has been shrouded in uncertainty for months, and earlier this season he was forced to make a public apology after a training ground row with Thompson.

But he remains one of the country's top scorers - as he proved with a hat-trick at Leicester City - and a cult figure among Liverpool fans.

Leeds, however, may have company in the transfer chase if Liverpool do decide to cash in.

Lazio have been linked with Michael Owen, but it is believed Fowler is also a target.

And Blackburn, with manager Souness a massive Fowler admirer, are now real rivals for Fowler's signature.

Souness was linked with a move for Fowler earlier this season, but insisted he did not have the cash to make a move.

But he has since sold Marcus Bent to Ipswich Town for ÂŁ3m and is also considering sending summer buy Corrado Grabbi back to Italy and rake in a possible ÂŁ6m deal.

If he can find the money, Souness is certain to make a firm move for Fowler.

Rumours thread!

As you can see, i renamed Razor`s post. like in every respectable forum out there on Xtratime we`ll have our own Rumours thread. please post rumours Only Here :) .

And a message for the the other Mods:

Please keep the Rumours and the Prediction League as our only Sticky threads. i`m following the Inter forum, a bigger forum than this on and they have never had any problems with the Match threads even when they were not stickies. infact, most of the match threads got more than 150 posts  .anyway, too many stickies is pretty messy IMO. so unless someone resents this and the Prediction league will stay our only stickies until a further notice :) .

Thanks!

Again, I don't see why anyone would care about the number of stickies, but then what would I know.;)

I don't really agree, look at the number of responses that the official match thread got. Look how many the forum XI got prior to it not being a sticky.
Now look how many each of those got for the Derby game ;)

Just my humble opinion. Take it or leave it! :D

Reports claim that Patrik Berger's Anfield future could be in doubt whilst maintaining that Liverpool are set to renew interest in Brett Emerton.
The weekend's tabloids continue to link the club with a host of unlikely targets with reports from this weekend's press stating that Liverpool are chasing a host of targets, from Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson to Feyenoord's Emerton, but the most alarming article concerns itself with casting doubts over Berger's Liverpool future.
There is no doubt Berger's progress over the past season has been limited due to the knee injury sustained at Leeds last November, but after showing sensational form in the reserves Berger was handed a first-team start against Derby and it was from his shot that Michael Owen bagged Liverpool's winner.
The report claims Berger was unhappy in the reserves, and with talks over a new contract looming it could be that the Czech star will be leaving the club.
Meanwhile transfer links continue with a host of spurious 'targets', the most unlikely of which is Dwight Yorke. Whilst Liverpool are in the market for a striker following Robbie Fowler's departure, Yorke does not fit into the strict disciplinary code laid down by Gerard Houllier at Anfield, and Houllier is eyeing other targets.
Another striker to once again be linked is Crewe hotshot Dean Ashton - the England Under-19 star has long been mentioned in connection with The Reds but a move is again unlikely at present.
Moving to midfielders, and the names Ferguson and Emerton have again materialised. Neither are new links, having both been extensively linked in the past, but whilst Houllier is a confirmed admirer of both players, the likelihood of a move for either is slim. Ferguson is a central midfielder, an area Liverpool have well-stocked, whilst Feyenoord are keen to hold on to Aussie star Emerton until the end of the season at least.
Finally a couple of defenders have been linked once again - perhaps the link to Derby defender Chris Riggott is hardly surprising given that the two clubs met at Pride Park yesterday, whilst despite repeated denials from both camps, Southampton's Wayne Bridge is again finding his name over the back pages.
However, as long as Liverpool are known to have the ÂŁ11million secured from Fowler's switch to Leeds available, these type of links are sure to persist in the press.

Michael Owen-David Trezeguet swap?

Far-fetched it might be, but there may well be truth in the rumours out of Italy that Liverpool will swap Michael Owen for Juventus ace David Trezeguet.
Trezeguet has attracted interest throughout Europe this season, having scored 15 goals including seven in the Champions League.

Owen, whilst also prolific in goalscoring, is still considered injury prone and if the opportunity presents itself, one could understand Liverpool's interest in the French international.

I dont think Juve will accept this transfer, because Trez is better than "wonder-boy".

Come back after Trez gets a hat-trick in Germany. We'll continue our conversation. :)
Hat-rick against Germany :rollani:...Germany was so bad in that match...and they still are...they dont play good football nowdays, so i must say it wasn´t that good result for Owen to score a hat-rick against poor, poor Germany.
Either way...i´m not Trez fan either, so i dont wanna fight who´s better and so on...they are both good strikers.:smileani:

Trezeguet is on fire this season, true, but like Zico pointed out Owen didn`t play all of our CL games. the difference between these two as i see it is that Owen needs one good ball to finish off a move while Trezeguet will probably need 3-4 moves before he does that. but i guess everyone has different opinions like you said and it`s cool with me :) .

Guys,

I really don't think we should really waste too much time on the Owen-Trez comparison.. because:

A) They are simply two different styles.. Ok.. they are both their club's top scorers.. but.. comparing a speed and skill based striker to a physical presence and skill striker isn't right.. right?? ;)

B) I've already been in this conversation at the beginning of the season in the Serie A forum.. and believe me.. it got me no where.. even if you talk statistics (like you just did with the hattrick against Germany and so.. the reply would simply be that the other team didn't play well!!)

C) Ok.. I simply say Owen is better.. his total record is better.. his international record is better.. and he has age on his side.. you can never compare 2 players on a small interval of time.. Owen was injured for what?? 8 games?? Trez wasn't!! I wonder if Tritolo would have brought this up 2 weeks ago (specifically before the Parma game).. when Juve and Trez were having a bad run of form?? or last season when Liverpool were bagging cups thanks to Owen.. and Juve... well.. they got 2nd place.. thanks to Trez scoring and Inzaghi missing chances :D My point here is.. you never compare goals when one player has missed more games than the other.. it should be a ratio (goal per game)

D) Just so no one understands me wrong.. Trezeguet is having a simply super year!! He's been simply scoring for fun.. But so has Owen.. and I repeat.. I still think Owen is better
