Liverpool...CL or No

I guess there will be some obvious bias, but I had to pose the question anyway. If I was an FM I probably would have started a poll.... You know the story... They 'won' the CL and as 'Champions' they feel they have a right to defend their title, even though hey did not qualify for next year's event...Meaning England would have 5 contestants next year...

If they want to defend their title they should take Everton's place. No way some smaller team is going to lose their place cause they want to have 5 English teams this season, that would be unfair to the rest.

they DO want to defend their title

but would it be fair to Everton, just kick them out and play liverpool instead? thats completely the same when you kick out a small team i.e from Finland and put 5 teams from england

This debate is like a two fold one, some people may have a different opinion especially Milan fans because Liverpool won the CL.I certainly don't have a problem of them being in the Cl in 2005/06,but I wouldn't also like to see Everton lose their place because that wouldn't be fair.
This will also happen in the future again unless the rules are changed so then what? But I'd say it's fine IMO. :)

But Everton, they lost Shrek...Moyes had those guys giving almost 110% every game... why should they miss out..

Now before we continue...obviously I am not a big fan of Liverpool, I can't hide the fact that... I grew up in house of Juventini... So you understand why I am disgusted when I see XT Juventini cheering on Liverpool... but at the same time.. I feel that if Milan were in the same situation, I'd ask for a rule change...

Wasn't that the same thing that happened in Spain and Italy some years ago? When a team that didn't finnish top 4 won and the 4th placed team didn't qualify. Look at Roma, they finnished 8th or lower in the league, but next year they will play in the Uefa cup cause Inter are in the CL? is that fair to Livorno, Messina etc?. Brazil won wc 2002 and had to qualify for WC 2006 aswell. Everton or Liverpool, their choise. I feel that people are treating EPL clubs diffrent lately cause they happened to be banned at one point.

Roma is in Uefa Cup because they reached Coppa D'Italia final

it only happened in Spain I believe

as for Brazil qualifying....Fifa changed the rule about champion dont have to play qualifications

Personally, I want them to defend their title, and I want to meet them in Paris nest year

However, if you look at the matter in a realistic way, Europe has never granted the champion a place in the next championship. In EURO, the champion must play in the qualification round to secure a spot in the next chamionship. That what happened to France when they won the EURO 1984. they did not qualify for Euro 88, and that was it. In UCL, it is the same, the champion, must go into the qualification round, although, the champion is not kown yet! Does it make a difference, I think not! So Liverpool couldn't qualify for the next year, why should they play? The only exit for this is the English FA! Let the battle be in England between Liverpool and Everton, why bring it to Europe?

no

i don't understand the discussion at all. it is not like uefa told them after the final they had to be at least 4th to play again in th cl. everybody knew it and it would send out the totally wrong message that all rules can be changed if needed. liverpool simply don't deserve to be there because they only reached 5th place and that's it. they can try again this year and do better than they can play cl again. simple as that.

and why would everton want to do this? there where clear rules before the start of the season. 4th place to play the cl qualification and 5th place for the uefa cup. you can't say something else at the end of the campaign. then manU could also challenge arsenal for the 2nd place because they don't want to play the qualification. total chaos only because of liverpool? i don't think so!

If we had won, and we hadn't qualified...what would we be saying?
We would be in the champions league no matter what at the expense of another team, just like Real were. So no arguments there

This whole 5 English teams in next year is just unfair and rubbish, the fact is it should be down to the English FA if they want Liverpool in at the expense of Everton.

Interesting debate ... i thought everyoen will say "Yes, they are teh Champs" but ... interesting to see that/

I think they shodu be there - yes! They are teh Champs.
and they should be there at the expense of ...?

the champions have always been there because they managed to secure this spot in the domestic league but pool didn't. why do you want to change that rule for liverpool? if so would you have done it for porto?

another point against them would be that some teams would only focus on cl and not have to fight for a top spot in the domestic league.

As I said before, being the champs does not mean anything in Europe, and int the world! France was the champ and they did not qualify Euro 88. Brazil is playing for qualification for FIFA 2006 although the are the champs! Liverpool lost in the qualification! the only way for them is for one of the 4 to English sides to be eliminated. I'd say let Arsenal concentrate in the domestic league next season, and the might..., well get the second place :D
