Their strikers are well aware of the weaknesses of our defence and are exploiting them well, 65% possesion for us but they have had a lot more chances than we.

The defence is a disaster, complete disaster. We need a new defender, whether it means one of the discarded, Castillo most favoured for me, promoting Etxebarria which is the logic option, with Amorebieta and Gurpegi gone we only have Ekiza and San José (not counting Ocio) who can master the CB position. We all know San José hasn't exactly excelled since his loan, and Ekiza made at least one suicide clearance today, the rotation has to start now, and against Sporting should perhaps be one of the games where the reserves should start, considering that we have Barcelona in a week, if these players have to play 90 minutes today and against Salzburg, I wouldn't be surprised if we lost by 8-0, there's no irony in that statement, if we would have played an in-form Barca today they would have scored about six so far, heart attack after another.

Miguel Flaño or Mikel Gonzalez, I believe we have to sign one of them, I haven't looked at the Segunda players though, or if there is someone abroad, any other suggestion?

Not quite sure what to make of that tbh.

A point was probobly all we deserved and despite having the lions share:)howler:) of possession,we created little.

A more expert team would have punished our defensive frailties. The back line is utterly shambolic.

Positives are that we actually managed to beat the first defender from a corner, resulting in a goal and our unbeaten run is sustained.

Disappointing that we have led 1-0 on four occasions so far this season and been pegged back.

No problem! I think you ought to apply for a trial after this match!

Todays performance was a complete disgrace, I can think of two positive things offensively, when Iker was fouled and they were yellowcarded as well as the goal which if tactically planned was absolutely genius. The defense was terrible as not so rarely this season, San José should go if you ask me one and a half season of not performing despite being given endless minutes is enough, but I guess he might master the CB position better than some other players, as I said we need a new player in that position and it's very urgent. The Barca game will definately end our unbeaten streak but we have to make sure that it doesn't end as it did for Osasuna, our players need to feel that we still can compete against them.

As I said Miguel Flaño and/or Mikel Gonzalez should be brought in it's what any other team in the world would have done in our position and we must have the budget required to sign at least one of them considering our recent close to spendless seasons (save for Ander).

I don't know if to praise Gorka, he's so eccentric that you can't depend on him any longer but he does still make some saves that most goalkeepers on this level wouldn't do. I think it's time to start the transforming of Raul into first choice, but that's from watching 90 minutes and hearing a couple of good words so who knows.

Bielsa has a choice, to play the usual 11 until they're all injured/too tired to fullfill the 90+ minutes two-three times a week, or do the only sensible thing and rest a couple of them especially in games like the one today, a must win match when you look at the following schedule.

What we did during the second half and especially the last 10-15 was so frustrating to watch that I almost destroyed my computer, these players are actually satisfied with 1 point against a team like them, they passed the ball backwards all of the time and the speed of the movement was nonexistent, as Manutd say, they think it's more important to keep possession than to actually win this match, Bielsa is a good philosopher, it's time to become a good realist as well, the important thing is that we win our games and that we score goals or at least try to score goals when we are not ahead, todays result was due to lacking ambition and exhaustion of almost the entire team, THIS is the main problem.

True, and he does have good positioning but he still lacks speed and stamina, not having seen Ibai play, he failed on pretty much everything but the rage might have blinded me, I would have entered Gabilondo for Llorente instead of Ibai. Toquero, well he fought but his ball skills are not Primera class, still I don't object to him being used 30 mins every match.

But as you say it's not always the best players that are the best matchwinners, Gabilondo has that gift and actually has one of the best scoring records in recent years, I think his position is striker and would like to see him tried in that position but it probably wouldn't have mattered since the ball was just going back and forth from left side of defence to right side for the last 10-15...

I'm mainly dismissed and told to give our clown of a coach "more time" and reminded that "we are a work in progress..."...What progress?
Couldn't win at the start of the season, past few weeks have beaten PSG, Osasuna and Atléti convincingly and won the derby as well.

There may still be some work to be done, but to say things haven't improved since the start of the season is simply incorrect.

Hehe I'm not that critical, I'm more like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, today is a Hyde day, you seem to be on that side all of the time. I agree with your points and the mistakes he makes are obvious but we can still see a new culture that we might have to adjust to in the future anyhow, look how more and more teams are trying to play shortpass one-two touch, it's good that we're learning how to. The problem is that it's only 15-16 players that are being given time and with injuries and suspensions it's not going to work long term.

I wouldn't call Bielsa a clown, but yes, some of his decisions are pretty much idiotic to be fair, not pushing our players more today, that was idiotic. However Tarquin29 we're unbeaten in 8 games with a small squad and tight schedule, there's always two sides of the coin.

Speaking of defenders, wouldn't it be lovely just to have Murillo in the squad, I could get any job in the world to finance his salary, his mentality and love for the club, willingness to fight, us who's been here a couple of years remember that season when he saved us from being relegated almost all by himself when almost all our defensive players were missing. I still believe he could become a useable player for us even though I haven't seen him since he left. There's only two Basque centrebacks in Segunda being used regularly, both Lezama products Egoitz Jaio and Etxeita, the former being the logic signing for us, there are a couple elsewhere; Miguel Flaño, Mikel Gonzalez, Ander Murillo, Sarriegi, Labaka are probably the best I can think of, maybe Ustaritz is even better than San José.

Perhaps Iribar can shed some light for me.

Lellle,Manu and Arrieta some good points.Bielsa is a clown.

Since every team plays neat one-two football is by no means a directive that we must.I love the cut and thrust of long ball football and don't see why that style of football had to change when it was successful..change for changes sake?...To be honest we could easily incorporate both styles into a style of play that is flexible and not absolute.

It is nerve wrecking watching our team trying to play the ball out from the back..Gorka passes, they press we lose it..FFS it's a joke.Press our back four trying to play a game they don't feel comfortable with and don't have the technical ability to play and you will win back the ball.

We have a depleted squad because of on idiot..Ustaiz,Orbaiz et al should have been kept to give the squad depth.

Why o why did the members vote for this twit when we had a sane manager in situ...thoughts guys?

#19 ·
I personally voted in this forum for a change and bielsa,i voted as i looked for a change and improvement, not because i knew him.
When you can improve, you must have a desire and motivation for improvement and when you satisfy with your current situation, you can't find much desire and motivation easily,
that is my opinion,i describe satisfaction like ''a stop in progression''.
for example, imagine somebody in a tower if that person reaches a certain floor and became satisfied, probably he or she won't put effort to make it to the next floor and will remain there.
And i don't find 6th position satisfactory.
About style of play i really don't know,it is not something i can put my opinion about, cos,i am no way a football pundit.
It is easy judging from outside and putting opinions,my English is not good,i think there is a proverb saying, actions speak louder than words.
capello said bad things about Steve McClaren when England failed to qualify for Euro 2008,but since his appointment,it wasn't so much different in major tournoments, and he didn't even managed England to qualify so convicingly to euro 2012.
So,it is easy to say something, but it is not easy to make it happen,no matter bielsa or whoever.

Manu you explained your position very well mate...nothing wrong with the English:thumbsup:

I don't see how sticking with JC was treading water or standing still.

Alec Ferguson has been with the same club for over 20 years...suppose thats different from our guy who lasted about 48 hours at Espanol.

Bielsa will be shown to have no dangly bits for the fight.

Staggered anyone on here thinks this guy is right for the Athletic let alone any club.

As with Knoert I didn't see the game either (too early) so can't comment on the performance but a draw at El MolinĂłn isn't a disastrous result. We drew our last three games there and it's not an easy place to go. Also our away form has been poor for a while, it hasn't just been this season.

We're currently 8th in the league, which isn't a bad position 10 games in with a new manager. Atléti, Málaga and Villarreal are all below us. I also think we was lower this time last season, but nobody was calling for Jokin's head then.

#26 ·
We had roughly 65/70% of possession and were lucky to escape with a draw...the defence is a complete shambles, which is a concern since our new coach was a defender...dear God!

Suppose when you put a World Cup winning midfielder continually at CF and De Marcos,a CF,at left back.....

The play today was staid, unadventureous and "keep ball"...we are in deep crap with injuries mounting and lack of squad rotation...but hey, like bielsa, what do I know...

....Tarquin,Mr Tarquin pedro...:howler:..amnesia old chap?

He goes by the moniker El Loco..Ok...not a clown, just a self confessed crazy man...which is better/worse?

Since you slurp, gush and lie prostrate at his altar, you are perhaps the wrong person to ask...maybe a few Espanol fans who caught a passing glimpse of his cowardice may be better candidates.

#28 ·
Or ask the people of Chile...

Honestly, you only show up with your ridiculous comments when have a bad game. Hardly read anything from you after the games PSG, Atetico, Osauna or Sociedad?

Only small comment like "decent performande from all players" and if we loose its all coach Bielsas fault, "idiot, clown, ****ing idiot and so on

Looking at your comments its strange that we have any points att all? And if im not wrong we have exactly as many points as we did last year, right?

And then we had Mr fantastic by our side, not bad for an idiot to get the same amount of points s him...

You know what, i really liked Caparros but since you came around well you gone make me dislike him...

Well maybe hes the right man for Mallorca if you give him time, right?
Really hope he does well there... but no win yet...

Starting to be a real fight ;-)

Sorry for my english... hard to really express what i want to say

#25 ·
tarquin reading your comments - not knowing we're 8th in the table, playing fresh and attacking football by times, are in a good position in Europe and having appointed recently a new coach - I'd think we'd be bottom with zero points, playing horrible football and got eliminated in Europe in the first round...

#29 ·
Pedro feel free to post in Castellano...I can engage.

I really don't see what the people of Chile have got to do with La Liga...maybe Pinochet was a sub when El Clueless tried to manage Espanol before he ran away like a coward?

#37 ·
Think your opinion is mainly based on our play while mine is more based on the results and statistics, because that's what I mainly see.

Perhaps that's why I absolutely can't see where you're coming from.

Then count with that, I saw the match in Bratislava in the stadium which was simply good, the match versus PSG and Osasuna live on TV/internet which were great games as well in my opinion.

Then I read here after for example this game or a few more in the past how horrible we've played, that it's a shame etc. etc. It's the complete opposite from what I've seen... :googly:

Anyway good luck lads.

I'm 1/4 Basque,my grandad was from Sopelana, and my wife is from Poza's,a spit from The Cathedral...my passion is for the club is second to none..I first went there as a child in 1979.

It's a staggering shame that everyone on here, bar none, can find no fault with the clown we have at the helm of our club.

I wish you all well but engagement and discourse on this site is impossible with all the disciples singing off the same "I love Bielsa" hymn sheet.

Good luck guys,I shall trouble thee no more...at least we are all on the same side ultimately.

Be lucky..hasta.................

Not no fault, there's criticism as well, but you're the extreme...

Why's that not possible, we don't have to agree in the end, do we?

You're very welcome to express your opinion and it's refreshing to read from someone with a clear different opinion than most on here.

However in my opinion it wouldn't be bad if you try to see where other people are coming from and use some less offensive language. Just like you and me also Bielsa wants us to win but everytime we don't Bielsa is a clown or idiot or something like that, don't think that's fair.
