The league goes on with a return to Aveiro where we dropped points against Beira-Mar still in the early period of the season when Domingos was still hesitant in using the best players available. This time our opponent is Feirense who started well the league but seems now to be passing through a lower form curve.

The centre of our defence seems to be still the main area of concern for us as Rodriguez is again injured, thanks to the irresponsibility of his NT staff and for that matter of himself. Polga is also out so it seems we will have a pair of CBs that never started together - Onyewu and Carriço. For the rest the good news are that Jeffrén is available again and he was called for this game.

Here is the complete list:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício and Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders: João Pereira, Oguchi Onyewu, Daniel Carriço, Emiliano Insúa and Evaldo.

Midfielders: Fito Rinaudo, Elias, Stijn Schaars, Matías Fernández, André Santos, Bruno Pereirinha, Jeffrén and Diego Capel.

Forwards: Ricky van Wolfswinkel, André Carrillo, Diego Rubio and Valeri Bojinov.

It's the 10th consecutive win that is up for grabs, which would mean that Domingos would equal Paulo Bento's record of 05/06 and it would establish his personal record as a coach. The team is breathing confidence and good football so...I believe!

Apparently there are so many Sporting fans in Aveiro that it's as if we were playing home. :)

Line-up is out:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Daniel Carriço - Onyewu - Insúa
Rinaudo
Elias - Schaars
Matías Fernández - van Wolfswinkel - Diego Capel

Bench: Marcelo Boeck, Evaldo, Pereirinha, André Santos, Jeffrén, Carrillo and Bojinov.

0-0 at HT

A good first half from Sporting again showing some very good football upfront even if creating less chances than in the previous match. Capel has been less explosive and Matías kept searching for his natural position in the middle which left the right side with less influence in our attacking moves. In spite of that we did create good chances and van Wolfswinkel was very very close to open the score for more than once.

Feirense is clearly playing for the draw in spite of having some interesting players upfront.

Carrillo and maybe even Jeffrén should come in the second half to open the spaces that we need to win this one.

matias fernandez just isnt a winger we need jeffren or carillo on that side

been a tough game so far but sporting has had its chances but we need to play better in the second half to leave with 3 points

Matías is not a winger but he did play in that position in the last two games and probably had his two best matches since he arrived at Sporting. The problem today is that João Pereira is not giving the necessary support.

At 54' Henrique cuts two counterattacks of Capel with bad fouls and sees two yellows in 3 minutes.

If you had one drop of decency in your face you should abstain from talking about penalty calls ever.

One more attacking hurricane on top of Feirense finished with a volley by the Man of the Match Stijn Schaars.

Third sub for us: Matías subbed by Bojinov.

Feirense 0-2 SPORTING - FT

A better second half than the first one with the key event of the game being the moment in which Feirense got (rightly) down to 10 men. From then on we went on an attacking tsunami that left Feirense crawling. Domingos made the right moves and the team answered in kind. Schaars had a superb game and orchestrated the team upfront in a class above the rest - he was in both goals and showed up in a game when his midfield partners were less brilliant.

It was not an easy win but surely a deserved one. Ten in a row! :lick:

FT

Feirense 0-2 Sporting

A intense game, in the estadio municipal da aveiro that ended with a double victory: A victory for Sporting and a victory for football.

right from the opening whistle Feirense set out to play a brand of anti football. Time Wasting tactics, diving, thuggery, and systematic fouling were the modus operandi of the blue clad squad from the aveiro area.

first half ended 0-0 with Sporting created some chances but struggling to deal with Feirense' thuggery. the ref wasnt punishing feirense and was letting them do what they want, and missed a penalty call when Elias was hacked down in the box

before the second half it became obvious that we needed more width as the right side wasnt opening up space.

second half began, domingos moved matias to the centre took off elias and subbed in carillo and the shape of our team looked better

in a matter of minutes, Feirense' anti football finally shot itself in the foot. Capel was hacked down twice in a matter of minutes and feirense was shown the red card. from then on Sporting dominated possession and it seems like it was only a matter of time before the Sporting clube de Portugal saw a breakthough

that came in the 68th minute when Schaars was ruthlessly hacked down inside the area. the referee correctly awarded a spot kick which the new dutch matador : Ricky Van Wolfswinkel duly dispatched into the upper corner to the keepers right.

the thousands of Sportinguistas in attendance were already in festive spirits but they erupted into a state of mass euphoria. such is the dimension of our club that it seems that wherever we go in Portugal a green wave of enthusiasm follows us.

Sporting continued to bambozzle the opposition, carillo, jeffren, and matias in particular causing feirense players to tie their own legs up in knots with their display of skillfull dribbling.

the second goal finally came and man of the match Schaars hit a volley into the bottom corner. 0-2, Jeffren left the pitch with an injury and the game finished 10 on 10. indeed 10 was the number of the day, as Sporting claimed its 10th consecutive victory

in the end it was an important victory not only for Sporting, but for football. the side who actually attempted to play football and win the match ended up winning and deservedly so.

The away shirt to be orange next season?

It's a penalty, stop complaining, killa.

I think the second yellow to Henrique was a bit harsh as Diego Capel was jumping into him, always looking for contact.

However, the penalty was pretty clear. Puts a leg in, doesn't get the ball, takes out the man.

#28 ·
they also put a leg in on elias in the first half, brought him down, didnt touch the ball no penalty

feirense was systematically fouling and time wasting

capel looked for contact on the 2nd yellow, that is true, Jeffren was also injured again with a two footed lunge could have been another straight red

rinaudo also once again yellow carded for no reason, guy is having a difficult time from the refs this season.

bottom line, the result is justified the better team won fair and square
