There's not much to say about this game. A straight-forward home match against mid-table opposition. Once again we have a chance to cut the lead to three points before Barca take to the field.

Starting XI picks itself. Higuain is an injury doubt, Gago has returned, and Wes played a decent game last week, so the XI is pretty much set.

I'd still like to see Torres get the nod over Heinze at LB, but Juande disagrees.

id like to see Boluda get the nod over Heinze, fvckin anyone, hopefully almeria wont cause too many problems. they dont have negredo, but piatti is a pretty good player whos been sitting on the bench for a while.

barca had 120% possession away, we dont even need half that because its not our game. so surely this game wont be a problem.

but most importantly i hope robben gets his act together.

Higuain is good to go. Also, Guti has recovered from injury but Juande has left him out of the squad. :(

GK: Casillas, Dudek
DF: Sergio Ramos, Torres, Pepe, Metzelder, Cannavaro, Heinze
MF: Sneijder, Lass, Gago, Robben, Marcelo, Van der Vaart, Parejo
FW: Raul, Higuain, Huntelaar

Not called: Guti, Drenthe, Faubert, Saviola, Javi Garcia, Codina
Injured: Salgado, Ruud, Diarra, De la Red

Good to see Guti dropped. Time has moved on for players of his kind. He is only capable of playing one way in the field, when Lass can play backwards and forwards.

I'd play with the same formation we had against Bilbao except Canna for Metz.

We need a more attack minded formation and Sneijder is a MUST for that. With Gago he might offer a through pass or two and cover a lot more on the defensive end, but we won't have a proper set piece specialist on the field. Sniejder showed us a glimpse of his old self last week with 2 wonderful assists along with starting the play for the 4th goal.

Marcelo also deserves to start after the great performances he's been having. Gago should be a sub and only be subbed in to preserve a lead late in the game. We don't need him in this type of match, Almeria are not a threat they're going to be worried about us not scoring on them and depend on the counter. We have super Lass and the fantastic four in the back with saint iker behind them all, conceding a goal is the least of our worries against Almeria at the SB.

Casillas
Ramos Pepe Canna Heinze
Lass
Sneijder
Robben --------- Marcelo
Raul Huntelaar

Subs.. based on the situation.. I would like to see Parejo, Higuain and VdV to make an appearance but I'm sure Gago will be subbed in instead of one of them.

There is an article today in as that says we haven't lost in the league since season 2006/07 when Guti isn't playing... And Guti was holder in all our 5 losses this season. Obviously it's no coincidence. I don't think we could had that 10 games winning streak if Guti was healthy. Everyone that understand football knows already that Guti causes damage rather than helping.

Finally people and most importantly a coach start to see the true value of Guti :howler: Attitude is the most important thing in team sport. I hope it's his last season here.

Our game today is tricky, yes Negredo isn't playing but Uche is and i think he caused us a lot of problems in the past with Getafe. Gago shouldn't return to the lineup we played well without him, Sneijder should keep his place near Lass. Marcelo should play as left winger till the end of the season, no reason to bench him.

Hopefully Robben will not be too much egoistic today... :rollani: I want to see Parejo getting some minutes as a sub, he looks like an interesting player.

hear hear!

ive summarised that bit Green is talking about in the AS article

Guti has missed 12 league matches this season:
- we have won 11 and drew 1

With Guti on the pitch
- 8 wins, 2 draws and FIVE defeats - he was starter in all the FIVE defeats.

Over the last 2 seasons in our 11 losses, Guti has started all of them.

it gets even better.....

the last time we lost without Guti was in 2006/07 against Racing Santander. The score was 1-1 until the 86th minute when Guti came on. they won 2-1 after scoring in the 89th minute.

fine detective work from AS one must say.

very mediocre game, even our goal was from a set piece situation. i would even say they have more possession than us
