It's time for a win.
Bolton played very bad last week, I hope they will play mach better tomorow and will win the game against Birmingham. If "the wizard" will be in good form that will be no problem.

The match was ok and Birmingham are a nice team to watch, especially wen they decide to attack. They are very stable as well which means they will be succesful this season!!!

As for Bolton, well I dont really like them, Okocha is over-rated and they buy too many old foreign crap!!! Jardel though looked lively when he came on and can be a success!!!

the Jay Jay show...

Tottenham 0-1 Bolton: FT Report

Kevin Nolan's solitary strike gave Bolton their first win at White Hart Lane for 44 years and ended Tottenham's unbeaten run under caretaker David Pleat.

It was a thoroughly deserved first away win of the season for Sam Allardyce's men, who were denied by the woodwork on four other occasions as Jay-Jay Okocha in particular tormented and ineffective Spurs side.

The goal came in the 72nd minute and was the first conceded at White Hart Lane under Pleat, the director of football who has been in charge since Glenn Hoddle was sacked in September.

A corner fell to Okocha outside the penalty area and his shot was blocked but not held by goalkeeper Kasey Keller. Nolan was first to react in the six-yard box and stroked home his fourth goal of the season.

Spurs had made the brighter start to the game and Darren Anderton appeared determined to enjoy the 350th league appearance of his club career.

After nine minutes he showed good skill on the right to lose his marker and deliver a dangerous cross which ended with Bobby Zamora having a header blocked. The loose ball came back to Anderton and he was denied a shooting chance by an important saving tackle from Simon Charlton.

Three minutes later Robbie Keane played a brilliant one-two on the edge of the box with Gus Poyet and fired in a fierce drive which Jussi Jaaskelainen did well to push round his right hand post.

Bolton's first effort on target came after 18 minutes when Nolan turned on the right edge of the box and hit a low shot which was comfortably saved by Keller.

That was followed a minute later by a flash of brilliance from Okocha. The ball fell at his feet on the left, 20 yards from goal, and he fired a rising shot which beat Keller but crashed against the bar.

Spurs were suddenly sloppy and the gave confidence to Bolton, who saw Okocha try his luck from 25 yards after 24 minutes with a low drive again easily saved by Keller.

Spurs were struggling to handle Okocha and after 27 minutes he went on a run which saw him skip past three challenges before hitting a shot which bounced against Richards. The one-man show continued a minute later as the Nigerian flashed another drive over the bar.

Ledley King was caught in possession on their right flank after 34 minutes and Per Frandsen was denied by a vital save from Keller, who dived to his near post to keep the ball out.

When the half-time whistle came, Spurs were mightily relieved to get into the dressing room still on level terms following one of their poorest displays for some time and it was no surprise they were booed off.

Pleat knew he had to liven things up from a Spurs point of view and his answer was to send on Helder Postiga in place of Gus Poyet for the second half. That mean the Portuguese striker partnered Zamora with Keane dropping back into midfield.

It also meant that Spurs were playing with a strike partnership without a Premiership goal between them, although Zamora did break his duck for the club with the winner in Wednesday's Carling Cup win over West Ham.

Spurs were saved by the woodwork again after 57 minutes after Bolton won a free-kick just outside the area.

Okocha's curler deflected off his own team-mate Frandsen and came back off the bar, and when Kevin Davies followed up with a header Keller tipped it over the bar.

Pleat went in search of the win when he made his second change after 64 minutes, replacing Taricco with Jonathan Blondel who went to the left wing with Konchesky dropping back.

Konchesky was honest after 68 minutes when he stayed on his feet after being nudged in the box by Hunt, and had he gone down it would have been an interesting call for the ref.

Spurs enjoyed yet another slice of luck after 71 minutes when Stelios let fly from 20 yards and Keller's fingertips helped it on to the bar.

But that luck ran out a minute later as the corner fell for Okocha. His shot was blocked by Keller but Nolan pounced to stroke home the loose ball and give Bolton a deserved lead.

The Okocha show was not over yet and after 80 minutes he hit yet another piledriver from 20 yards which again crashed against the bar - the third time he was denied by the bar.

Spurs can have no complaints about the result and although it was only their first defeat under Pleat, it was the manner of yet another poor performance which should be cause for some concern.

Inspirational Okocha

Sam Allardyce hailed Nigerian Jay-Jay Okocha after the Troters grabbed their first away win of the season.

'It was an inspirational performance from our captain,' he said.

'We struggled to get possession in the first 10 minutes then all of a sudden he decided to turn the magic on, and that lifted the whole of our side.

'Once he started showing that ability we passed the ball a lot better and a lot quicker and once we got at Tottenham's back four we caused them quite a few problems and in the end got what we deserved.

'I would say that was the best Jay-Jay has played this season. His work-rate has been exceptionally good but the top line quality of his ability hasn't shown as much as it did today and hopefully he'll continue that as will the rest of the side.

'We have set a standard and we mustn't waste a rare Premiership victory away going into next week, we have to take it on another level. My 11 players played to their best today and they always have to do that for us to win a Premiership game.

'On chances created and shots on goal we dominated the game and that is pleasing because it has been a torrid place for me on the last three occasions.

'It has to be a turning point for us all.'

Spurs caretaker boss David Pleat could not excuse his team's poor showing, as they surrendered their unbeaten record since he took charge.

He said: 'It was a very poor performance and Bolton were better than us on the day. I am not making excuses but I don't know if extra time in midweek drained us because we weren't sharp.

'Technically they were better, they had a good game plan and Okocha was superb. His impetus made us a little disjointed and I have rarely seen him play so well, he was magnificent. He hit the bar three times, his footwork was unbelievable and if he plays like that they'll be able to afford another new stadium.

'If you play poorly you expect the fans to get on your back and you have to be a very good team not to worry about that. You have to get hold of the ball and make it do the work, and we weren't a good enough team to do that.'

Bolton 0-0 Southampton: Match Report

Michael Svensson was sent off after clashing with Brazilian striker Mario Jardel as Bolton and Southampton fought out a 0-0 draw at the Reebok Stadium.

The Saints defender was dismissed for a second caution in the incident but the visitors hung on to claim a point.

Matches between this pair are always tight - the previous four meetings had all ended in draws and since 1979 not more than one goal has ever separated the sides.

Bolton, starting with the same line-up which played so well to beat Tottenham last weekend, dominated throughout but lacked a cutting edge. Just about everything positive came through Jay-Jay Okocha, who twice saw shots bound for the top corner tipped over but both teams erred on the side of caution.

Too much caution was not an accusation that could be levelled at Okocha however, and he produced some impudent trickery on the edge of his own penalty box to set up Bolton's first chance.

After turning neatly away from James Beattie to win some space he sent a tremendous cross-field pass onto the head of Kevin Davies. He knocked it down for Kevin Nolan to fire a rising drive a yard over the crossbar.

Okocha tried again from long range after Per Frandsen had robbed Graeme Le Saux but Antti Niemi saved low down.

Southampton's first attempt came after 16 minutes but Beattie's 30-yard free-kick sailed a yard wide, then Niemi pulled off a dramatic tip-over to prevent Okocha's shot from a similar distance curling into the top corner.

Both sides had been limited to strikes from distance but Davies attempted the spectacular from closer in against his old club, trying a first-time chip from just inside the penalty box only to see Niemi save easily.

Soon afterwards, Ricardo Gardner's cross from the left was cleared away from the lurking Nolan but only as far as Frandsen who snapped in a low shot that forced a diving save out of Niemi.

After having endured so much pressure, the best chance of the half went to Saints. Nicky Hunt's loose pass went straight to Anders Svensson, the Swede picked out Paul Telfer at the far post but Simon Charlton dived in to deflect his driven shot narrowly past the post.

Early in the second half, Okocha cracked in a powerful half-volley after Claus Lundekvam had cleared a corner as far as the Nigerian but the ball struck a defender and deflected to safety.

The home side continued to press and Ivan Campo was the next to have a go, skipping past one challenge before driving low into Niemi's hands, then Telfer tried to redress the balance of play with his own effort from 30 yards but this drifted off-target.

After almost an hour of dreary stalemate, the match suddenly opened up and both sides came close to breaking the deadlock.

Bolton were first with a moment of real quality and, no surprise, it was Okocha who was responsible. Gaining possession wide on the right, he surged into the penalty before unleashing a strike that appeared again to be heading into the top corner only for Niemi to intervene once more.

Kevin Phillips then had two openings of the sort he normally laps up but first the Saints striker shot straight at Jussi Jaaskelainen then, from the following corner, missed his kick six yards out and Davies was grateful to clear off the line.

Stelios Giannakopoulos did manage to get the ball into the net following a classy break by Wanderers only to be flagged offside. There was a fright for Bolton at the other end though, Phillips powering a downward header at the far post but a yard wide.

Campo sent in a powerful strike which bounced off Niemi's chest, then the home crowd howled for a penalty when the ball appeared to strike Jason Dodd's hand but referee Howard Webb was unimpressed.

There was a glorious chance for substitute Jardel to steal victory after Okocha had set him free but he stabbed just over the crossbar. The striker was then involved in a scuffle with Michael Svensson which led to both players being booked - and as it was Svensson's second a red card followed.

After all that commotion, Bruno Ngotty nearly scored with a crucial header but Saints managed to survive.

Spurs, Everton, Bolton in for Inter's Farinos
tribalfootball.com - November 29, 2003

Inter Milan have been approached by three Premiership clubs for more information on midfielder Javier Farinos.
The Spaniard has broken back into Alberto Zaccherroni's first team in recent weeks, but the new Inter coach is still prepared to listen to offers for the player when the January transfer window opens.

Tottenham, Everton and Bolton Wanderers have all registered their interest for Farinos, whose future may depend on president Massimo Moratti.

While Zacc is happy to offload the ex-Valencia midfielder, Moratti would prefer to hold onto the player until the end of the season.

Bolton vs Everton 2-0

Sam Allardyce's quiet revolution at Bolton looks to be gathering momentum after a 2-0 home win over Everton.

The shrewd manager's collection of established foreign stars and one or two English players are moving onwards and upwards.

Bolton have now chalked up 10 points from a possible 12 after this victory today.

That was due in no small measure to the combined contribution of Youri Djorkaeff and Jay Jay Okocha.

Djorkaeff is the owner of a World Cup winners' medal with France while Okocha was the captain of Nigeria in last year's finals.

Yet they wear the jersey of this unfashionable club with the kind of pride that can only be admired.

Bolton bossed the game right from the off and Kevin Davies should have put them ahead in the second minute.

He got away from his marker as Okocha delivered the cross but could not make the most of the chance at the far post and headed over.

Then Per Frandsen chipped the ball into the hands of Everton goalkeeper Nigel Martyn from the edge of the area.

Play switched down the other end and Tomasz Radzinski skipped away from Simon Charlton only for the Bolton defender to recover quickly and avert the danger.

Bolton were looking bright and Kevin Nolan released Stelios Giannakopolous down the right.

The Greece midfielder's effort beat Martyn but drifted marginally wide of the post.

The visitors were beginning to get into the game, although Wayne Rooney was yet to show.

Thomas Gravesen tried to release the England striker three minutes later but goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen raced out to clear.

Bolton almost went ahead in the 25th minute but Charlton's effort was cleared after good work from Giannakopolous and Campo.

However Campo got his reward a minute later by helping his side make the breakthrough.

Martyn weakly tried to punch away his header but only succeeded in finding Frandsen, who made no mistake.

Bolton boss Allardyce brought on Djorkaeff in the 31st minute for Giannakopolous, who had taken a bad knock.

Rooney was left hobbling and needing brief treatment after a collision with Jaaskelainen.

He then tried to chip the goalkeeper after Joseph Yobo's long ball forward but his effort cleared the bar.

Bolton were having the majority of possession and Davies got on the end of Okocha's inswinging cross, only to flick a header wide of the post.

They added a second goal a minute into the second half after a moment of invention from Djorkaeff.

He clipped a shot goalwards despite being off balance and TV pictures showed Nolan getting a touch to wrong-foot Martyn.

Bolton were growing in confidence and Frandsen almost increased their lead in the 52nd minute.

He showed some good skill to cut inside but his effort finished narrowly wide.

Everton were looking a bit dispirited and Nolan rattled a shot over the top after Djorkaeff had laid the ball back to him.

Djorkaeff, back in action after a calf strain, was clearly enjoying himself.

The French forward tried to pick out Davies in the 65th minute but his pass was slightly over-hit.

He was being given plenty of room as was Okocha and Everton were being pulled all over the place.

Martyn then had to look alert in the 68th minute after a poor back pass from Yobo following a cross from Davies.

Everton began to push men forward in a desperate attempt to get back in the game.

Captain Alan Stubbs joined his strikers to rattle in a shot that went narrowly wide of the post.

However their willingness to push up left them vulnerable at the back especially with the likes of Djorkaeff and Okocha around.

Bolton went on to complete only their second victory at home in seven league matches leaving Everton facing difficult days ahead.

After the match Bolton boss Sam Allardyce said: 'With the quality we showed, it would have been difficult for anyone to live with us, apart from the top three. We were that good.

'I wouldn't say it was a poor performance by Everton. I thought it was a brilliant performance by Bolton.

'Mind you beating Tottenham was perhaps slightly better only because it was away from home.

'But today not only have we set out to win the match, we gave the fans some great entertainment.

'We sent them home on a grey miserable day with a lot of hope and a lot of confidence.

'Hopefully, we can continue what we are doing now going into a very difficult period in December.'

Bolton have laid the foundation of their recent good spell with some solid defending.

'The lads have come together and started from the basics with the result we haven't conceded a goal in four league games,' added Allardyce.

'After the improvement in our work rate the skills are coming out more and more, as is the confidence.

'We were beginning to falter at home but the second goal knocked the stuffing out of Everton. It deflected off Nobby (Nolan) and he will be saying it is his.'

Everton manager David Moyes brought off Wayne Rooney in the second half and replaced the young England striker with Francis Jeffers.

Rooney, involved in a sponsorship promotion in Madrid this week, was out of sorts.

He had been given permission to attend the event in Spain but Moyes re-iterated after this defeat: 'We want our players to rest when they have a day off.

'Wayne took a knock in the first half on his ankle but the decision to replace him was mainly tactical.

'Let's just remember what we are all expecting of him. We have just have to be careful with his progress.

'He is a young boy, who is still young enough to playing for our youth team.'

I'll be honest, i really, really want Bolton to go down this year. Call it sour grapes (it probably is), but a team full of foreign mercenaries that play in a corporate stadium with a dancing mascot is no good, in my books.

Congratulations on the win against Chelsea. Great performance and the big boys will have to be on their guard since you're up against them very soon

Isn't it about time Henrik Pedersen get's a chance to start...?

I mean... the old Silkeborg hero was one of the top scorers last year, was behind the winner at Chelsea, took Bolton through in the cup against Southampton by getting the winner, giving Bolton the draw against Arsenal with a late equalizer, and then scored the consolation goal at Liverpool... He can't do much more as a sub.

Atletico Madrid's Javi said 'yes' to Bolton over lunch
tribalfootball.com - January 1, 2004

Javi Moreno has agreed to join Bolton Wanderers on a six-month loan deal from Atletico Madrid.
The two clubs struck an agreement earlier this week, which will see Bolton pay £400,000 for the Spanish international striker.

Yesterday Javi discussed the move over lunch with good friend and agent, Antonio Alfaro, and after weighing up the pros and cons decided a move to the Premiership club was the best option for him.

I hate to say it but Moreno is another good signing on the cheap by big Sam. I'm surprised Jardel hasn't fired yet, but he is still a quality player.

In terms of ability, Bolton can't be far off having the best squad in the league outside of the big 3.

Atletico Madrid's Javi in Bolton for talks
tribalfootball.com - January 3, 2004

Bolton Wanderers bid for Atletico Madrid striker Javi Moreno has hit a stumbling block.
Marca says after the two clubs reached an agreement over a fee for the loan of the player and Javi, himself, had given the green light for the deal, Bolton chose to make a lower offer for the striker.

The two clubs had settled on £400,000 for a six-month loan, but its now suggested Bolton won't go higher than £200,000.

Atletico officials were stunned by the U-turn, particularly after meeting face-to-face with Bolton boss Sam Allardyce last week.

Javi's agent, Antonio Alfaro, confirmed last night that he and his client will be in Manchester today to discuss personal terms with Bolton officials.
