its a pretty tough draw if you ask me. especially Cadiz and Logrones who were in primera not long ago.

Quique Costas has asked Antic not to select any B-teamers for the rest of the season. and i have to agree as hes not playing them even though in the last two games hes only used two subs:rolleyes:

To the FM, could make make this a sticky as i will be able to keep everyone up to date with the developments of this group stage.

The team isnt as strong as last year so im not too confident. especially as motta, victor, iniesta, baba wont be their. however our main problem last year was we didnt have a goalgetter and this year weve got him in Sergio.

Heres the schedule

Calendario
1a. jornada (25.05.03)
Logroñés - Cádiz
Barcelona B - Universidad

2a. jornada (01.06.03)
Cádiz - Barcelona B
Universidad L.P. - Logroñés

3a. jornada (08.06.03)
Logroñés - Universidad L.P
Barcelona B - Cádiz -

4a. jornada (15.06.03)
Cádiz - Logroñés
Universidad - Barcelona B

5a. jornada (22.06.03)
Logroñés - Barcelona B
Cádiz - Universidad L.P. -

6a. jornada (29.06.03)
Barcelona B - Logroñés
Universidad L.P. - Cádiz -

Its wonderfull ocassion to gain Segunda Division. One step to Primera:) . For that young players could be good opportunity to get to first team. But probably without nano (but there is a chance he could recover), with Sergi Garcia, surely without Valdes, Iniesta, Oleguer. The firs step is to win with Universidad de las Palmas.

Key Players for Barca B

Coming into the playoff this saturday i thought id run down the players that will be key in our search for promotion.

Goalkeeper
Albert Jorquera Fortiá

Born: 3-3-79

We have some top opponents for this level and he will have to be on top form. 24 year old keeper who will never be anything more than the back up B team keeper. nothing special but steady. reminds me of Arnau.

Defender

Dani Tortolero

Born: 6-9-81

Captain of the B team and regular in the spanish u-21 seleccion and catalunya. Will be key in holding our defence together for the first few games as Oleguer will be out. Unfortunalely sometimes prone to errors which could be costly.

Carlos González Peña

Date of birth 1983/07/28

The next prospect from the B team. a great left back who might get his place on the left of defence. was champion of u-19 last summer along with Iniesta, Sergio Garcia.
Good in the aerial game and very good touch of the ball.It make easy to play practical soccer. It is the left latral with more projection of the Barcelonist quarry. An example of delivery, professionalism and humility.

Champion of the Catalunya Glass cadet (1998/99) Champion of Liga Division of Honor (2000/2001) the International sub-19 with the Spanish selection Champion of Europe sub-19.

Midfield

Joan Verdú González

Date of birth 1983/05/05

Another Xavi type clone. very small in frame and very technical and skillful on the ball. not much pace either like the prior. when iniesta was in the b team earlier in the season the two formed a deadly partnership. Will be the brains of the team as all attacks will go through him. Hopefully hell be able to replicate the form he has shown throughout the season as we need him to perform.

Attackers

Francisco Maceda da Silva Rodilla NANO

20-4-82

As we all know he as want to be a star and flopped so badly. However this season hes shown some of the form in which he showed all those years ago. only player in the team with the natural speed and strength to beat a defender. will be important and if he plays will then the team will follow.

Sergio Garcia de la Fuente

Date of birth 1983/06/09

progressed through all of the ranks so far in spain and barca with alot of success. top scorer in the second division B with 18 goals. most of the goals come through him so we need him to keep up this record.

If i have the time i will signal out the danger men for the other 3 sides tomarrow;)

I was wondering if I could change the title to Barcelona B thread, because I would love to hear your opinions on our talented youngsters.

Andrés Iniesta is definitely our biggest prospect, but injuries and management changes have not helped his progress. I've heard that Dani Tortolero is very promising, but he is known to be error-prone. But to be fair, I've hardly seen him play, so I'm not going to judge him too much.

Have you noticed that our beloved Dutchman, Louis Van Gaal, has launched so many careers at Barcelona? He introduced a young Xavi and two extremely promising talents in Gabri and Nano, to first-team football. It's just a shame that Gabri and Nano have been screwed around by management changes throughout their careers.

And when Van Gaal came back, he introduced Victor Valdés and Andrés Iniesta to first-team football. Now Valdés looks very promising and Iniesta has impressed when he has featured in the first-team. If there's one positive you can take out of Van Gaal, it's that he knows promising players when he sees it.

Should we sign Van Gaal as a scout? :dazed: :D

yea the good thing with van gaal is that he can see talent and isnt afraid of utilising it. unfortunately though this is the same reason we relegated to the second division b.

the change in name of thread would be a good idea as we can use the thread after the close in of the playoff. we then could be kept up to date with the promotions from the juvenil ranks and the signings.

o.k, remember in the key players guide for the Barca B, i labelled a guy called Pena?

Well he is actually getting his chance in barca b as Oscar Lopez has been called up for the first team. this is a blessing in disguise as i feel Pena is better and will be the next big player promoted.

Bad news is that nano has been called up. luckily his replacement is very pacey and dymanic meaning he can take it past the defender. unfortunately his lst ball is sometimes missing so we will miss Nano:(

I dont really know tomarrows opponents really well but Universitad danger man is definately Jonathon. He almost single handedly won them the league with 21 goals, 3 more than our sergio in his group. Dani will have to try and take him out of the game otherwise we can see him adding to that tally

How does this format work? Sorry, this is all new to me :embarass:

I know that there a 4 groups consisting of 4 teams each. How do the teams qualify? Do the top two qualify for the next round? Is there another group stage? Is there a knockout stage? How does it all work?

Thanks in advance :)

well its like a mini league. each team plays each other twice (home and away). then the team which is top of the group is promoted solely. thats where the promotions are and theres no stage after.

Most of the candidates like Laporta, Bassat, Llaurado, Minguella, Medina will be in the mini estadi tonight for this game.

they say the promotion of the B team an extremely important area for the barcelona of next season.

Antic however stated he doesnt really care about the b team promotion. hes shown this twice now taking sergio and nano to two games, not playing them so they couldnt play for the B.

hes done the same today although Oscar lopez is remoured to be starting. however the worst thing is if nano doesnt get a minute since we really need him:rolleyes:

the teams

Barcelona B–Universidad LP

Albert Jorquera, Peque, Rodri, Dani Tortolero, David García, Ramón Ros, Joan Verdú, David Sánchez, Sergio García, Roberto Trashorras y Güiza.

Ibrahim, David Medina, Guillermo, Ojeda, Ayoze, Darino, Alexis Trujillo, Aday, Socorro, Jonathan Torre y Jonathan Cesma.

Pena isnt there although Rodri from the C team is:confused:

It seems like Quique Costas is going with 3 upfront with sergio and Guiza and trashorras. although trashorras will play slightly behind.

Kickoff is at 18:00 CET. not 17:00 as i posted in a different thread

What the hell! :fero:

Of course promotion is important. If Barça B did get promoted, then the standard of football will improve, which means the players will improve. But it will not be easy, because we've got the likes of Cadiz to beat. Antic' popularity seems to diminish every time he speaks

By the way, should we re-sign Haruna Babangida to replace Overmars? He's a winger and he's lightning quick, so he could definitely replace him :)

hes good young and i have no objection to bringing him back. hell do well starting and as backup is a very good alternative.

Is Guiza a hot prospect for the future, or just a fringe player. Because in championship manager he's scoring like hell, he won me the uefa champions league, although Championship manger is not real life, but i am wondering if Guiza is good.

u got CM4 OR CM 2001-02 ?

guiza.

personnally i dont think hes very good. hes 23 and was signed from recreativo for the sole purpose of helping the b team and never for the future effort of the A team.

simply not enough talent for segunda. though seems to be doing o.k in second division b

Universidad L.P. 2 - Logroñés 0

means we need to win against cadiz otherwise we can kiss promotion good buy already.

to Tom

i dont think anybody here has any barca b goals. im able to see some of the games but unfortunately i have no equipment to get the matches onto the p.c:(

halftime and cadiz is winning 1 nil. i only caught the end of the first half as i was working out:tongue:
so i cant give a report of that.

ill be able to comment on the second though. and if we lose its good bye promotion so CUMMON BARCA B!
