Just how inferior is Serie A compared to EPL these days?

take the following three examples:

Stefan Jovetic - Star in Serie A, struggles to make it to the bench in City.

Erik Lamela - Star in Serie A, struggles to make it to the bench at Spurs :palm:

Paul Pogba - didn't get playing time at ManU, star in Serie A.

looks like the gap in the level of play is so wide that Serie A can't be considered an indicator of true quality these days when it comes to judging young talent...

Also Mancini is Italian, had much success in Italy but his success in Man City is questionable. He is doing very poorly in turkey with Galatasaray as well. I am not saying Turkish Super Lig > Serie A but just pointing out facts for the record.

I sure hope someone PM'd you this thread idea & you didn't come up with it yourself Andy :(

Pogba was just a major mistake by United and they know it. Surely he would stand out in the EPL as well.

Jovetic was average in his last season for Fiorentina. People blamed his lack of motivation because he was looking to move but this season he's showing a similar bad form. Too many injuries maybe?

Lamela is a good argument but a counter argument can be Coutinho.

ManU has a very good record in developing and judging young talent...fact is they didn't see anything special in him and didn't consider him to have what it takes to make an impact in EPL. Then he goes to an inferior league and is an overnight success...doesn't necessarily mean that ManU gave away a useful EPL-level talent, just that it is much easier to have success in Serie A these days compared to England.

Jovetic made a mistake joining city, it was always going to be difficult getting a starting place there, especially for someone who is pretty injury prone as he is.

Same goes for Lamela really, why the **** did Tottenshit buy Holtby, Eriksen AND lamela in the same year anyways, considering the way they play thats just idiotic and a waste of players/money.

Pogba :howler:? What a ridiculous example, considering half the epl are either interested in him or saying how big a mistake it was for united to let him go.

It's because the women, weather and food are better in Italy. Poor Jovetic and Lamela, at least they're making a lot more though so they can survive the dip in life style.

Ok jokes aside, isn't Santon a favorite up in Newcastle? :err: At least last season he was. I remember seeing an EPL feature on him and that he was happy with life there, as were the fans.

Edit: I think I saw it in 2011...and I don't watch NUFC regularly so...

I wouldn't say he's a favourite but Newcastle fans are fairly content with him. He's a bit suspect defensively (right footed but playing LB and gets caught out at times...seems better as a RB or wing back ideally...or even on the wing) but time is still on his side....and you're right he's settled here, has a local gf and kid now and likes the city. He's had the chances to move on (Roma and Milan linked with him now and again but he's always said he's happy to stay despite the speculation.)

Felipe Melo left Juventus playing like crap, went to Galatasaray and became a god there.

It varies from player to player and team to team. That is not how you measure (if there exists any method to begin with) how strong/weak a league is.

To say that Serie A is vastly inferior or pure crap compared to EPL (or La liga for that matter) is based on profound lack of knowledge and research on the two leagues. If you really want to have this, this league vs. that league then choose your criteria, select the time period, and based on these criteria (granted that they are credible and justify a hypothesis, eventually) decide which league is more competitive.

But based on Lamela, Jovetic, Pogba, then making a conclusion as the OP...sorry Andy Christ, but as a senior member here like yourself, that has got to be the worst attempt at starting a decent discussion.

:redcard: for you

Why not give Lamela a chance to bed in properly and learn how the English game is being played? There are tons of reasons why he isn't doing particularly well at Spurs. The patience of the modern day fan is just tragic to see these days.

Serie A has these two, enough said :proud:
