REAL MADRID (3) v LAS PALMAS (13)

Real have taken just two points from their last four league games and badly need to reassert their authority at the Bernabeu. Their chances will be hit by the absences through injury of Raul and Fernando Hierro, although Zinedine Zidane could return after missing the last two games with an ankle problem

Not sure about a line-up yet, but Hierro, Raul and Savio are all injured. Geremi is with the Cameroon team for the ACN.

I have a feeling Salgado could be suspended, not sure.

Guti is the best bet to replace Raul.

I've read that SALGADO is out and ZIDANE is in again...
Thanks Leon,

I was suspecting Salgado being suspended because frankly i haven't seen him NOT get booked in any live game i was able to watch! :(

I didn't mention Zidane in the injured list because i expected him to get back as well...

With Geremi on International duty, who will play right back? They might give Minemberes (sp?) a chance, otherwise i am clueless!

Latest off Marca:

Zidane will start, no doubt.

Minambres will start for Salgado, i hope this boy makes as good an impression as Raul Bravo did.

Guti and Helguera are doubtful, nursing injuries. Helguera has better chance at playing though.

If Guti can't make it, there is a chance Portillo will get the start, as Che mentioned in the other thread. Otherwise, Guti will play through injury (I am surprised no mention of Munitis to start at all).

Other players missing are Hierro, Savio, Raul and Campo (Injuries), Salgado (suspension) and Geremi (NT duty).

Good news about ZZ.

We desperately need 3 points for this one and I dont care how we achieve it. I hope Minambres gives a good account of himself and I would like to se portillo being given a run out at some stage.

For once I agree this is a important game, despite the low profile of our opponents. We need to win, otherwise their will be no more speculation about a crisis - it will be a crisis.

Shouldn't be impossible though, even with the injuries.

this is the squad for the game:
Casillas, César, Celades, Flavio, Guti, McManaman, Solari, Munitis, Miñambres, Makelele, Morientes, Rubén, Roberto Carlos, Karanka, Pavón, Figo y Zidane.

and this is the probable lineup i think:
Casillas
Minambres Pavon Karanka R.Carlos
Flavio Makelele
Figo Zidane
Guti Morientes

I dont see our great young talent Portillo anywhere in the squad??

02/09/2002. BACKGROUND

Las Palmas are in the typical kind of setting to receive a massive thumping: a comfortable league position, a mediocre team and, as opponents, a very hungry Real in a bad need of points.

In turn, the Merengues hope not to flop this one as their title chances depend on it a great deal. With Valencia flying high and about to open a wide gap on top of the table, any mistake will be costly.

Betters, listen to this: in 30 (thirty) past Liga meetings, Las Palmas have never (never ever) won. But they did win (4-2) in the first round of matches in the Canary Isl.

TEAM NEWS

However Real are going into this match with good and bad news.

The good news is Zinedine Zidane finally returns from injury; he could be benched in order to avoid mishaps, but with major absences, coach Del Bosque might risk him from the start.

The bad news is that Raul Gonzalez is out after picking up a knock in Wednesday's defeat at Valladolid.

It all comes down to Del Bosque loading up his team with youngsters from the "cantera". Oscar Minambres, Ruben Gonzalez and, most importantly, Javier Portillo have been included to the first team.

Veteran Fernando Hierro and winger Savio Bortolini are both out with long-term injuries.

Ruben, the hero of Las Palmas-Real in September, won't be there. But Schurrer, Angel and Orlando will.

PROBABLES

Real Madrid: Casillas; Miñambres, Pavón, Karanka, Roberto Carlos; Makelele, Helguera; Figo, Guti, Zidane, Morientes.
Las Palmas: Nacho González; Angel, Sarasua, Schürrer, Paqui; Edu Alonso, Josico, Samways, Lago; Jorge, Tevenet.

SA PREDICTION

Make that 31 games without a win in Bernabeu for Las Palmas. Loads of goals, and one for Portillo. 4-0 or something like that.

Common Kid (portillo) lets put one in the back of the net!

Lets wait and see the situation regarding Portillo.

One thing for sure, in this competitive Liga, a home game to Las Palmas is as easy as it would get.

However, let me remind everyone that this is the only team to score 4 goals against us this year!

rf you beat me! :)

If your watching the game, can you tell us the line-up? i am following it on *cough* livescore :(

#21 ·
Thanks rf :)

It would 3 important points no doubt if we hold on to win, however, it is worrying if we have reached the point we get too excited about beating Las Palmas at home!!!
