Inzaghi on way to Milan
First Published: Jun 19, 2001
Italy striker Filippo Inzaghi is to leave Juventus for AC Milan.
Inzaghi is leaving Turin for the Milan club after talks with Adriano Galliani and Juve have been linked with the sale of the Italian international for the past two months.
Parma and Inter were both keen to sign Inzaghi but the interest of Milan in the striker came as a surprise after the Milan club put in recent bids for Tottenham forward Serhiy Rebrov and Ecuador star Agustin Delgado. It is rare for Juve and Milan to do transfer business together.
Milan were playing down any deal for Inzaghi last week after Juventus supposedly priced the forward at ÂŁ25 million but they are set to pay around ÂŁ16 million for the Italian international
Milan have already signed Spanish top scorer Javi Moreno for next season and can use him alongside Andriy Shevchenko who is again the club's top scorer in Serie A for the previous season with 24 goals so far. But Inzaghi could be used as the first choice partner for the Ukrainian star.
Juventus were preparing a new contract for Inzaghi but the striker says he is leaving the Turin club after four years. The return of coach Marcello Lippi to the Turin club means that Inzaghi is not keen to stay on at the club who finished second in the championship.
New Milan coach Fatih Terim wants to bring Inzaghi to his club and says his objective for Milan next season is a return to the Champions League.
Meanwhile Juve want to to complete the signings of midfielders Fabio Liverani and Davide Baiocco by next week after securing Lilian Thuram yesterday.
