Let's list some of our favorite films made by an Albanian. I'll start.

Jammin' the Blues directed by Gjon Mili

Jonathan Rosenbaum listed this on his Essential Cinema list.

Seen it. The acting surprised me considering these kids aren't even proffesionals. However the story itself left me a bit let down. Could have been far more powerful and it's way too adapted to suit a western audience. The director hasn't really grasped the feud phenomenon and history behind it like an albanian sees it. Instead he has looked towards the obvious punchline and rushed somehow. Still a good film but could have been far better. It's only the beginning thou. I'm sure someone else will make a better attempt in the future. Hopefully someone with a clear understanding.
I can tell you stories about real blood feuds in albania far more powerful than this film.

I haven't really seen that many Albanian movies, but I liked 14-vjec dhender.

Also, I remember Koloneli Bunker/Colonel Bunker was praised a lot here in Denmark a long time ago. I was still a kid, and they showed it on TV and I was so happy, because they mentioned it was an Albanian movie. Taped it on VHS :howler:

Try "Lulekuqe mbi mure" if you can find it.

From the Post-90s movies I like "Slogans" best, the acting is great and it has a great storyline.

Lulekuqet mbi mure was a drama, but lots of hilarious moment. Not to mention Kadri Roshi is in there.

But these guys made it modern funny

Old Albanian movies especially the comedies are timeless. The only feud I have with some of them is that they’re incredibly biased and heavily support the commie propaganda.

Some of my post-communism films are Gjalle, the Sorrow of Mrs. Schneider, Der Albaner, Tirana Year Zero. Dossier K, and Lamerica, there’s some I’d like to catch soon like Femrat and the Architect.

Cekja kish ca gallata too, but now he’s just recycling.

Gjalle
Pharmakon
Slogans
East, West, East: The Final Sprint
Anija
Amnistia
Une ti dhe kasandra
Tirana, viti zero.
Gjoleka djali i abazit
I dashur armik

I my top movies pre 2000 i would add movies like:

Skenderbeu
Zonja nga qyteti
Gjenerali i ushtrise se vdekur
Beni ecen vete
Pallati 176
Lulekuqe mbi mure
Tomka dhe shoket e tij
